It's the clutter shouting "Mayday" as the Fledglings spring into action

GoingGoingGoth · 30/04/2014 22:12

Copying last month's thread.

So for those who don't know the fledglings is a long running thread. Some of us seem clicky but that is because we have been chatting on these threads for nearly half a decade makes everyone feel old we quite like fresh blood though so feel free to jump in and join us.

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new then trying to spend 15mins decluttering and the babysteps.

Some of us Bitchy can have scary looking lists. One word of advice ignore them. Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others, we won't be judging you.

Who - we are about 20mins from the White Horse and go there quite often for a walk up the hill.

Not much flying has gone on here the last few days bar washing a few dishes and a load of laundry today.

Yesterday evening DD and I went into Oxford to see Gareth Malone on tour with his choir. Lots of audience participation - even from me who can hardly sing in tune Grin

Today we have spent most of the day next door as they had a BBQ. They lit a fire pit thingy late on as the sun went down so now all our clothes need washing as they stink of wood smoke. That will be tomorrow's job!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/05/2014 00:47

I thought we might be near you Dizzy. Lovely part of the world, we will be going again I think.

Well, an upset here tonight. My DF has had a stroke. I got a call from my DM just after 9 so I jumped in the car and got off to hospital as fast as possible. He's stable, luckily DM realised and called an ambulance fast, it came quickly and they live within 10 miles of the regional stroke centre, so he's in the best hands. He was given a clot busting drug and was showing signs of improvement as we were there. We stayed till about 11, then I took DM home and have just got back myself (we are another 20 miles further from the hospital). All plans on hold for the rest of the week. My DB will come over tomorrow. Need to go and try and sleep now, but feeling very awake. Ironically I had just got out of the shower when DM rang and was ready to head to bed with the DCs.

BitchyVstheUFOs · 26/05/2014 01:27

Unfortunately that is the way Alice i am currently at the point of having to replace my car :( bloody expensive things that they are I really can't live without one.

Another early night out the window but have been doing some emotional decluttering and catching up with a good friend. Who as always have wise words of advice.

Managed to sort some of my room but currently don't have a bed but fear I will just be dumping contents back onto floor. I am tired.

ToffeeWhirl · 26/05/2014 06:51

Woken at 6am by DS2 climbing into bed with us. He's now sleeping soundly, whilst I'm wide awake. Have tidied the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher and had breakfast. Should be doing some ironing, but I'm on Mumsnet instead Smile.

slackcabbage · 26/05/2014 07:52

I'm so sorry to hear about your df Whoknows what a worrying evening/night you must have had. I hope he is stable this morning. Very glad to hear that he is at a good stroke centre and it is very good news that he got the right treatment quickly. Thinking of you and your family today x

Engels if your body is telling you to rest then make sure you do it! Forgot Flying for now! Early pregnancy can be exhausting! Take it steady!

Blue so sorry to read down thread that things are not going as well as you had hoped with the school campaign - that must be v. demoralising after all of your hard work. Sorry to hear also about the death of your dh's grandmother too.

Toffee also just read about the awful time you had with CAMHS; hope they have apologised

Carpe glad to hear your ds through the worst of the chicken pox - I never understand why they don't vaccinate for it in UK; it's mandatory over here.

Just drinking tea and fortifying myself for the day ahead. Managed to have fairly relaxing day yesterday amid all the chaos. Now need to get back to it.

Big waves to everyone!

pushmepullyou · 26/05/2014 07:56

Oh no whoknows I hope he's continuing to improve this morning x. I know stroke prognosis can be very good with early treatment and it sounds like they got on to it pretty quickly. Thinking of you all.

Dropped off the thread a bit myself as I have had a horrible cold all week and generally feeling rubbish. Bit better and one child down for most of the day today so hopefully will have chance to catch up on a few things.

To do
Sort DS' clothes
Take old clothes to a

CallingAllEngels · 26/05/2014 08:18

whoknows sorry to hear about your DF. Hope that he makes a speedy recovery.

We had a very lazy day yesterday. DH popped out to supermarket, BIL popped in with DNs who played very enthusiastically with DS's toys, made some brownies (which will not survive today!).

Today will be even lazier - shopping! Rapidly running out of clothes that fit comfortably! And ironing in front of the TV.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 26/05/2014 08:20

WhoKnows sorry to hear about your DF, but was glad to see that his symptoms were recognised right away by your DM and he was taken in immediately. The quicker there's medical intervention with a stroke, the better chance of full recovery.

Bitchy absolutely that's the way it goes. I suspect by the time I'm done I will have replaced the entire engine on the car at the rate I'm going - but then I should have the equivalent of a new car, right? Grin

pushmepullyou · 26/05/2014 08:27

Oops!

Take clothes to tip
Wash soda cover
Put away laundry
Garden centre
Gardening with DS

CarpeJugulum · 26/05/2014 09:46

Morning everyone.

WhoKnows so sorry to hear about your DF, but at least he's in good hands. My boss had a stroke over a year ago, but was on holiday so didn't see anyone until he got home Shock thankfully he's fine now, so fingers crossed your DF is the same.

Well, I've left DS with DMIL today, so we'll see how that goes. Thankfully I'm only in the office for two days this week; but I need to email nursery to find out when they'll take him back. Not that he'll go this week, but I still need to know for next week.

So, better get on with the work. No clue about flying; suspect it'll be whatever DMIL doesn't do! Blush Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 26/05/2014 10:17

Sorry, completely missed your news when I last posted, WhoKnows. So sorry to hear about your DF - what a shock. Thank goodness your DM realised and rang for emergency help so quickly - that will have made all the difference. I hope your DF shows signs of improvement this morning.

ta da

Woken at crack of dawn by DS2
loaded d/w
tidied kitchen
breakfast and Brew
Mumsnet & checked emails
ironing
back to bed
woken by ds2 again
second breakfast Blush

Should be a quiet day at home today, so I'm going to work on my OU stuff and catch up on housework.

BitchyVstheUFOs · 26/05/2014 10:43

Sorry I didn't see your post about your df last night at stupid o'clock Whoknows Hope he continues to make good progress.

This no coffee thing is weird. Another late night with another early start. Did go back to sleep but only for an extra hour. Trying to muster the energy to move and function. It is a bit of a bad case of CBAitis.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/05/2014 11:18

Thank you all for your kind words. DM has just rung and said the drugs haven't given a total recovery, he appears to be fully mobile and understanding, however his speech is affected. Gone for more tests this morning. Those of you who are on my FB please don't mention this as mum hasn't told the other relatives yet and wants to ring them tonight.

I slept OK and have had a lie-in this morning. House is a mess, the two lots of washing that I left on the line yesterday afternoon are soaking as it is pouring with rain, so I'd better get going with a few jobs before going back to the hospital this afternoon.

Swanhildapirouetting · 26/05/2014 11:26

Whoknows what a shock Sad Hope you can get through this week. Best wishes to your poor mum. My uncle had a stroke in his 50's and I remember my cousins saying what was a relief was to have a gatekeeper phone wise, so that a named person gave all the updates to friend and family rather than my aunt.

done
I've sent ds2 to the park
dd has gone down with a terrible cold after wearing a cropped top all yesterday and sitting on her friend's roof Hmm
ds1 is refusing to do anything except lie in bed playing on his dsi - a reaction to a busy time at school I think

dh is working today
I've organised a bit of tidying; yesterday was a bit of a right off as I felt ill still with stomach cramps (is this the horrors of the perimenopause I wonder) However, we managed to get ds2 to play a board game
dd spent all day with her friend in and out of the house
ds1 was charming and handsome
dd and her friend weeded out all the bluebells and put them in garden sack Smile
I washed 4 dirty saucepans!!

so thinking about you Whoknows and fingers crossed for this week and you can keep your strength up.

BitchyVstheUFOs · 26/05/2014 11:28

"ds1 is refusing to do anything except lie in bed playing on his dsi - a reaction to a busy time at school I think" thought this was normal for teenagers? although I am also liking this plan today

GoingGoingGoth · 26/05/2014 13:04

WhoKnows so sorry to hear about your DF, sounds like your DM was on the the ball, her fast response will hopefully have made the difference.

I've managed to prise the iPad off DD for a couple of minutes to post. We downloaded School for Dragons and she's hooked.

So rather than MNing I've done
Laundry x 2
5 15 minute tidy up in living room
Laundry hung on clothes horses as it's warm but raining
Vacuumed flat
S&S
Litter tray
Washed bathroom & kitchen floor
Washing up
Tidied plants
Rubbish & recycling out

Quite happy with that as I had a lie in after a late night watching the election results come in. Just off out to the greengrocers as we are totally out of onions and carrots.

BitchyVstheUFOs · 26/05/2014 18:12

I caved to the caffine Blush so the ta da looks like this:

Discuss plans for rebuild project
take apart remaining structure
keep builder (DF) supplied with cups of tea
make 1 x pizza base and 2x bread roll doughs in bread machine
2 x laundry (towels and miscellaneous stuff left by machine)
brought all wood in when it threatened to spit/rain earlier
Dig up and weed the play barked area i think my back now hates me
finish off pizza making
sweep patio
sweep kitchen floor
evict the creatures from the bath tub
get cleaned up and ready to go out.

AS i have about an hour to kill i think i might head into the office to plan/think/find and perhaps even do something in there.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/05/2014 18:32

Evening all,

Odd sort of day, we've all just mooched around most of the time. I've been to hospital again with DM this afternoon, DF is definitely improved since yesterday, but it is clear the effects are not just going to go away over the next few days. No idea how long he will be in hospital. I have managed a few odd jobs and we are gradually getting all the soaked washing back through the spin cycle and tumble dryer, it has rained non-stop all day. Need to venture out to the shed with the camping crockery which has just been through the DW in a minute.

Tomorrow I'll be at work, DB and DSIL are coming over to see DF, I'll go in the evening. Its a 50 mile round trip (luckily the area is very familiar) so about an hour driving each time. Need an early night tonight.

Swanhildapirouetting · 26/05/2014 19:38

That sounds tiring whoknows the round trip and worrying I mean.

done
took boys swimming in order to wash
dd in an absolutely foul mood today, possibly because our hot water broke again [grr] however it seems to have miraculously mended due to me pressing some button or other
went with ds2 to supermarket in car in rain, had a lovely time with him stocking up, a holiday feeling I dunno what it is about the rain but it always makes me feel as if I'm on holiday in Ireland Confused as if all duties are suspended, and we can all relax and have hot baths and play board games after a day spent in soggy anoraks excepting absence of hot water and eat things like bacon and eggs and trifle! Ds2 has been incredibly helpful and relaxed this afternoon, although BGT may set him off again Hmm

Dh in bad mood about a lot of stuff today starting with the Dolmio sauce for lunch Grin BUT The house is lovely and tidy downstairs now, as the cleaning lady came today instead of this Friday. It even smells of polish.

SUMMERY

Dizzy went to see Gareth Malone and his choir on Saturday and then had a BBQ day at the neighbours on Sunday.

WhoKnows' DF has had a stroke but luckily her DM acted fast and he is already showing signs of improvement. Thanks

Bitchy got some wise words during an evening with a friend. Will hopefully do you as much good as an early night. She then had caffeine and did an impression of the Tasmanian devil whirling around the house,

Toffee got an early start due to DS2, so got some early flying and MN done.

SC caught up on the thread

pushme is getting over a bad cold and is trying to catch up! YOU ARE NOT BEHIND!!! Rule 1 of Flylady

Engels had a lazy day - good!

Alice thinks she's building a new car a part at a time.

Carpe's SuperMIL is childminding whilst she's at work

Swan is suffering from the perimenopause, can I ask how old you are as I think I may be starting it.

And finally, I did most of the weekly bleugh (not dusted) and the mission and then had a great afternoon with some friends playing Pandemic.

pushmepullyou · 26/05/2014 21:49

tidy DS room
Room rescue kitchen
Room rescue living room

I have been reading a book on insomnia that advocates various common sense things among which is not spending more time in bed than you are spending asleep. If you wake up in the night you should get up and do something else instead. I have promised myself I will give it a proper go as I am sick of lying awake in the middle of the night knowing I am keeping myself awake by being annoyed that I'm awake iyswim. Therefore if I wake up tonight I will be getting up to clean the fridge! If it is after 6am I will stay up and go for a nice walk or have a cup of tea instead Smile

BitchyVstheUFOs · 27/05/2014 02:11

Tomo I will be broken, on rest boo hiss back to no caffine and probably found curled up in bed. My muscles HATE me for today. whoops. Over done things to burn out level. Bad Bitchy
