Mad Fledglings March through the Spring cleaning

BitchytheGreat · 28/02/2014 20:40

So here we are, March already.

So for those who don't know the fledglings is a long running thread. Some of us seem clicky but that is because we have been chatting on these threads for nearly half a decade makes everyone feel old we quite like fresh blood though so feel free to jump in and join us.

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new then trying to spend 15mins decluttering and the babysteps is the most. Some of us Bitchy can have scary looking lists. One word of advice ignore them. Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

ellie - is your subconscious finding ways to enforce bedrest, do you think Wink? Hope your head stops aching soon.

Was at work this morning (accompanied by very cheerful DS2), then home to help DS1 with real and online lessons this afternoon. He is being incredibly difficult and stubborn about doing his homework and hadn't done it, so I let him take the consequences with the tutor this time. The two of them worked out a timetable together, starting with a 15-minute slot for homework this afternoon - which DS1 then refused to do. He also refused to take his meds again or eat more than half a sandwich. And apparently everything is my fault Confused.

Spent the rest of the afternoon working at home whilst DS1 sulked upstairs in his room.

Only Flying done was a bit of washing up this morning.

EustaciaVye · 24/03/2014 21:21

Blimey Ellie. Sounds scary. Get some dvd boxsets and relax :)

DD1 just got a certificate in swimming

I am off work tomorrow so have lots of plans. I am writing them down here in case I get distracted...

  • swim
  • take bits to charity shop
  • write and post Mothers Day Card
  • take box of books to local hospital book shop
  • list a few bits on ebay or fb selling sites
  • buy some new cushions. (all of mine are flat)
  • plan work social Hmm
  • file away all of the loitering birthday cards/kids school work.
BitchytheGreat · 24/03/2014 21:37

I miss read that as file away all of the loitering birthday cake. Eustacia I was just thinking that sounded like a good plan and perhaps i should find time to do some baking tomo. I am rather disappointed now :(

Ellie the offer of a hook and some wool to keep you out of trouble is still open... WinkGrin

I am playing with a new crochet pattern for grannie squares. It is actually nice and quick and really simple now that I have got the hang of it.

EustaciaVye · 24/03/2014 21:43

Baking sounds like a grand idea Bitchy. I hardly ever do any. Maybe some little cakes. You could do some too and we could compare how they taste later on ;)

BitchytheGreat · 24/03/2014 22:03

Lol. I have left over brownies and flapjacks but I need to not eat anything like that and what would i do with it if i made it. It would look at me in the wrong way and i would have to eat it. thus defeating the purpose of the diet

So this morning seems to be going in the kinda vein of hang up a load of clothes, look at wardrobe, go HmmHmm, rearrange chest of drawers, pull clothes back of hangers, refold and put into drawers. An almighty waste of energy then

Brew anyone?

EustaciaVye · 25/03/2014 09:57

I came home from school run and have painted my nails. They look lovely, but not conducive to doing lots of housework. I havent started my list Hmm

BitchytheGreat · 25/03/2014 10:52

Oh quick reminder for those in the uk. Clocks go forwards this weekend for those with littlees who need their body clocks adjusting in 10mins bits in the lead up to the switch. I know it is a few days late but Forgot to meantion it yesterday.

It is freezing. I have lost the will do do what is on my to do list. A nap would be nice, but have rather a lot to do. No nap and earlier bedtime is the plan. dentist first no one likes the dentist but it has to be done

Managed to fit in two lots of DC's education this morning: DS1 went to his learning centre Shock and I did learning at home with DS2. His teddies had to join in the lesson Grin.

Starting work myself now. Washing up can wait.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/03/2014 12:09

Lessons at the Toffee Schoolhouse. (Think the classroom needs a room rescue Blush).

Those bears look like they are holding a seance Toffee Grin

Just getting back to normal after very busy weekend away. DD exhausted but just about hanging in there. Screaming revision atm prior to exams next week.

If it's any consolation my wardrobe isn't looking that much more organised than when I started either Bitchy.

Ellie hope you are OK. That sounds absolutely awful. And hope they investigated why you fainted and didn't just treat the fall. (Don't want to scare you with horror stories but my dsis had the most awful time post-hysterectomy - different op to yours I know. She was bleeding post-op without knowing it. And docs all said she was OK. And we knew (because she is the most stalwart, uncomplaining person you could possibly meet - a bit like you then Grin!) that she definitely wasn't OK. She had to have second op which they also bodged but thats for another thread. Hope that isn't the case with you, but you shouldn't be fainting at this stage of recovery should you [worried wart emoticon]? Tell me they at least did blood tests/sent you for an echographie.

Congrats on your swimathon Dizzy (and to your dd too) very dedicated getting up at that hour of the morning!

And on your run Engels! (Will have to see if the Globe are visiting here - very Envy)

Congrats to you dd1 re: swimming certificate Eustacia and for clothes decluttering

Good luck tomorrow running your first Woodcraft session Goth! You will be brill!

Hope you are feeling better Blue - lots of bugs about atm.

Had horrible headache/sinuses yesterday but dd (who was v. tired from weekend) and I went to bed at 7pm and we have both recovered today!

Swan you are a much nicer, more generous ma than me. If dd forgets her games kit then I have a policy of not taking it in. Congrats on sorting passports and weathering horrific queues.

Just impressed by early morning DIY

Well done getting back to running Whoknows! And on finishing appeal paperwork.

Honu (and anyone else who is good at maths) do you happen to know a way of teaching Pi that makes it interesting and relevant?

Big feathery wing flaps to Castle and everyone else!

Ta da:
Morning routine inc wm, dw, rabbits, s&s, water seeds
Tried to do on-line banking but couldn't find card reader (eek)
3 hours admin for 'work' work
Lunch with dh
E-mails/phone calls re: Easter hols and social events this we and next
More laundry
Supermarket shop
Meeting with headmistress (all a bit more positive thankfully except for maths)
Get back for dd's French tutor
Hwk supervision
sort baby-sitter for school run tomorrow

To do:
supper
more laundry
iron three shirts for dh who is travelling tomorrow
find bank card reader (panic)
on-line banking
supervise dd getting gym kit ready

Loads more and boudoir needs yet more attention so that's my focus for tomorrow. That and paperwork.

Have a good evening everyone!

sanschocolat · 25/03/2014 17:40

Toffee - sorry - left out the penguin! Grin

BitchytheGreat · 25/03/2014 18:23

You have all the standard Internet jokey things like baking a pie with putting the no's on top. Figuring out when pi day is... etc Not official uses of it but helps to make the number stick in the brain a bit.

I have been busy but not with today's to do list. Done a chunk of thursday's to do list though. HmmGrin. Given up despite not putting away everything that got pulled out (it got dumped on the floor) but even so the floor still looks tidier then before I started which is nice. Currently chilling out with a craft project and leaving ds to be. He is fragile and screamy this evening and he is liable to bite my head off. Somehow I don't think that he will be making training tomo. Ah well.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/03/2014 18:53

Grin at the teddy seance, SC. They were studying the properties of materials, not ghosts!

Fell asleep on Ds1's bed and woke to a drama: DS1 had decided to do a science experiment in the dining room, which involved shaking up a bottle of Coke and freezing it. So guess what happened when he opened the bottle? I came down to find Coke all over the walls, ceiling, chairs, table, our books and a computer - and a very shocked and soaked DS1. There may have been some shouting from DH. Thankfully, the computer is still working and DH's work computer was safely upstairs. One of the books I'd logged today now needs 'Coca Cola stains on cover' added to the description Wink.

After cleaning up, DS1 retreated to his bedroom and DH retreated to the bath. He has asked me to buy him some beer asap.

Today's ta das:

Took DS1 to learning centre
Home ed DS2
Worked at home
Lunch
Sat with DS1 for his online lesson
OU work - starting work on first essay
Fell asleep
Woke to Coca Cola Explosion
Operation Clean up
Operation Washing up
Cooked dinner

Reminded DS1 to do his homework
Drank Brew

BitchytheGreat · 25/03/2014 19:10

Oh dear toffee GrinGrin Bugger to clean up but rather amusing. Hope you can see the funny side soon. Was DH in the room when ds1 opened the bottle?

Look away now all of you not wrestling with pi. This is for you SC

Gather several things with circular faces of different sizes - tin of tomatoes, dinner plate, cotton reel ..... you get the idea. Set up a table with 4 columns - item, circumference, diameter, c / d (can't find a division sign atm). Then measure the diameter (ruler) and circumference (string + ruler) and work out the division. In all cases, however big or small the circle, c/d will approximate to pi. Then do the explanation about pi being a natural number that just occurs in life. Don't try doing it with things that are too small - measuring errors are too large. Then go outside and see if it works with the car tyres. This also shows benefits of recording data neatly.

PeanutPatty · 25/03/2014 19:58

Evening,

Currently sat on my arse munching tortilla chips instead of cooking myself a wholesome meal.

Ta Da's
Walked dogs
Fed and watered dogs
Emptied DW
Washed other dishes by hand and put away
Ironed a teeny pile that normally I would ignore until it turned into the ironing pile from hell
Put away ironing

elliepac · 25/03/2014 20:13

Grin toffee. That made me smile for the first time today.

sc rest assured they did blood tests, ecg and ct scan. Been back to docs today and it turns out tis not a fracture in my ear but my skull. Oo er. Scary biscuits. Still feeling a bit battered and bruised and concussed but am surviving.

No flying to report but dh is being a marvellous fat fairy.

CallingAllEngels · 25/03/2014 20:16

Ha ha ha toffee ! That's made me chuckle!

Sleepy central here. Off to bed shortly.

Shock ellie - really make sure you look after yourself!!

Hope the scientific aftermath has subsided, Toffee.

Feeling a lot better today, thanks SC. Good night's sleep definitely helped.

Today have done:
Cleared another corner of garden
Campaign stuff
Work
Cooked dinner
Washing done and dry but not put away

Tomorrow is going to be scary. Involves radio, public speaking and strike rallies! Shock

sanschocolat · 26/03/2014 01:13

Bugger, fell asleep on sofa downstairs and dh is going to be waking me in 4 and a half hrs to go off for early flight.

Ellie bloody hell indeed! A skull fracture Shock. Do take care of yourself and take it really steady Thanks HOpe they gave you scan of abdo too though (to see what caused original faint.) You don't want that happening again. So sorry - you are really going through the wars.

Glad you are feeling better Blue and good luck for tomorrow!

Well done for keeping on top of ironing Peanut

Honu that is bloody brilliant!!! THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU! Going to do all of that tomorrow afternoon and at weekend! Will report back! Thanks Cake
