So which way round is the 'nice' way round for loo roll to be hanging. And *why* is it remotely important?

Just wondered after a heated debate (!) with Fil, who was in the army you know, and seemed quite put out that anyone would be so ignorant as to not know the correct way for loo-paper (or as I wanted to say 'convenience stationary') to hang.

So, at the risk of exposing myself as a complete pleb, please dear genteel Good Housekeepers, enlighten me?

It needs to come over the top IYKWIM

Pedant · 02/08/2006 19:07

It is VERY important. It should hang from the front, not down the back.

I change it if its on wrong - at home, work, friends' houses, public loos....seriously.

QueenPeaHead · 02/08/2006 19:07

It isn't at all important.

Anyone who thinks so is trying entirely too hard, in a Hyacinth Bouquet type of way. In fact anyone who even notices which way it is hanging is slightly dodgy, IMO

Thus decrees princesspeahead.

AND YOU MUST FOLD THE END INTO A NEAT LITTLE TRIANGLE

oops sorry about caps

trinityrhino · 02/08/2006 19:08

I change it too, if it's wrong

QueenPeaHead · 02/08/2006 19:08

cross posted with all the irredeemably bourgoise posters

fullmoonfiend · 02/08/2006 19:08

Why is it important?
(FIL also has been known to fold the edge over nicely )

mousiemousie · 02/08/2006 19:09

What do they do at Buckingham Palace? That should answer the question pretty definatively.

JanH · 02/08/2006 19:10

Ours doesn't even hang

(It sits on the floor on a wooden kitchen roll holder)

JanH · 02/08/2006 19:11

The Royals are irretrievably bourgeois I believe?

waterfalls · 02/08/2006 19:13

My towels also have to be folded a certain way

mousiemousie · 02/08/2006 19:14

Cheaper and more bohemian to use newspaper actually

Can be folder into airoplane or basic hat shape
any origami stuff is a bit de trop but welcome anyway into the mix.

fullmoonfiend · 02/08/2006 19:14

Pedant!! Quick, a word in your ear...

Just talk amongst yourselves, people, there's nothing to see here!!!

Minds on the windowsill next to the no frills bleach and the vosene

QueenPeaHead · 02/08/2006 19:16

(Jan mine sit on the radiator or on top of the loo cistern.... 5 loos and no holder)

Freckle · 02/08/2006 19:19

I just think it's whatever you're used to. Nothing worse than going to the loo in the middle of the night, unable to find the end of the loo roll and cursing enough to wake the rest of the house.

JanH · 02/08/2006 19:26

5 loos, pph? How do you make sure they've all even got paper all the time? I struggle with 2 (mostly because it nevernevernever occurs to anybody else to replace when they've used the last bit )

Cappucino · 02/08/2006 19:31

oh for pity's sake

do people have too much time on their hands?

Tutter · 02/08/2006 19:33

has to hang ove the top

always change the wrong ones

quootiepie · 02/08/2006 19:47

hang over top, and fold into point.

Miaou · 02/08/2006 19:48

Pedant and tutter, me too

I really just can't help myself!!

quootiepie · 02/08/2006 19:49

to be honest, the roll gets used before its even hung up

Latipsoh · 02/08/2006 19:53

Good catch FMF!

It is absolutely right and proper to have the end of the roll hanging down at the front of the toilet roll and not the back.
