Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners on Channel 4. Where do you rank on the cleaning scale?

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 17:14

I'm sure it's been done but thought I'd do it again as I'm nosey. Wink

I love this tv programme and watch it on catch up if I miss it. Cleaning wise I'd say I'm around the middle, as in not totally tidy but don't like too much clutter. I don't sweat about cleaning windows etc.. but like clean surfaces, clean bathroom and kitchen. Skirting boards, meh, not fussed but do them occasionally. Cobwebs get dusted by ds2 with one of those long pole things.

I'd say washing is my bug bear. We don't own a tumble drier so air dry indoors in winter. I'd love a utility room, that's my dream saddo. I'm not big on ironing and putting away tbh Blush.

So where are you on the ranking? And what's your dream housekeeping thing?

OP posts:
HoratiaDrelincourt · 21/11/2013 17:29

I think the programme is very exploitative Sad

I'm firmly in the middle though - maybe swinging like a pendulum between 33% and 67% depending on mental health, energy etc!

MyMILisfromHELL · 21/11/2013 19:11

Bare minimum at worst. At best (when visitors come over) I'm a bit obsessed.

MyMILisfromHELL · 21/11/2013 19:13

That didn't really answer your q. Am normally somewhere in between.

VerySmallSqueak · 21/11/2013 19:15

I'm more towards the happy but a bit grubby end.

My house will be super clean when the kids are grown.Till then there's immunities to be built Wink.

VerySmallSqueak · 21/11/2013 19:16

My dream housekeeping thing would be a roomba.

Mainly to amuse me with the dog.

Dillydollydaydream · 21/11/2013 19:24

I have a utility room but it's not big enough to be of any use really. Ideally id have a laundry room with washer and dryer, airer, ironing board permanently up and baskets for all members of the family. saddo

I'm probably a 7 but dh would likely say 8/9.

dizhin79 · 21/11/2013 19:32

I love this programme too, I lurch from an 8 to about a 6.5

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 19:42

I sometimes invite people over (posh ones) just so I'll do a big clean Blush Otherwise people take me as I am.

So the mother and daughter, do you think it's nature or nurture with the OCD? They're very extreme. I feel so sorry for them tbh. The glam one with long dark hair isn't so full on I don't think?

OP posts:
Dillydollydaydream · 21/11/2013 19:45

I'm not sure re nature vs nurture. The lady (Michelle) who hoarded her collections said her mum was OCD and put cleaning above her but she wasn't obsessive about cleaning she was the other end of the spectrum?

The mother and daughter do seem to be quote extreme with their OCD though.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 20:09

I felt really sorry for the lady crying about her mum who would rather clean than bother with her Sad

OP posts:
YoureBeingASillyBilly · 21/11/2013 20:21

Im closer to the hoarder end of things but slowly getting back to the middle ground. I'd like to be closer to the spotless house end ideally. But i so CBA Grin

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 20:29

Spotless is pretty impossible unless you become obsessed though. Once you have less 'stuff' you'll feel so much better. I'm always decluttering.

A few of my friends are hoarders. One of those has a very tidy partner and it's really getting to him tbh. But then again she was like this when they met so he knew what he was getting into. A lot of my friends are more like me and some are very tidy.

My best friend used to make out she was spotless but I've been round unexpectedly and she's not that tidy at all. She just used to make sure she cleaned when I was going. Mad bugger!! Since then she's relaxed. She usually starts tidying when she comes to mine cheeky mare Grin

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 21/11/2013 20:32

I agree freakin. I know i'll never be spotless but would like to be very much closer to it.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 20:44

Well I'm sure you'll get there YBASB.

deepfriedsage · 21/11/2013 20:45

I was more of the OCD side, then due to illhealth I am now more on the slob side of the scale. Naturally I like clean and order, it makes me feel a bit down living as I am compared to how I felt when I was in better health. There is hope, in thirteen months the nhs will be performing tests to enable treatment for some of my issues, some can't be fixed. I hope to be able to go back to being more ordered and cleaner then.

CremeEggThief · 21/11/2013 20:47

All of the clutter on that programme really stresses me out, so I try not to watch it.

That said, I would class myself as an obsessive tidier rather tan a cleaner. I'd give myself about a 6 for cleanliness, and 9 for tidiness. I even noticed one of the OCD guys hadn't made sure all his mugs on his mug tree faced the same way around! Shock

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 22:37

Sorry to hear about your ill health deepfriedsage. Wishing you well for the future x

You should write and tell him CrmeEggThief Grin

I just noticed how bad my skirting board is behind the sofa Blush I put some wrapping paper behind it and it's grim behind there. Am off work tomorrow so will add that to one of my jobs.

OP posts:
FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/11/2013 22:38

Oops Creme.

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 21/11/2013 22:58

Nah, I just felt a bit too self-satisfied about it, OP! and I wouldn't want him here criticising my creased sheets or dusty skirting boards Wink

Just watched Making Space on C4OD. There are some fantastic storage ideas on that programme. I watched series 1 Ep 12. Great ideas for anyone who works from home and needs office space. There's 25 episodes in total but I've already seen some of them.

OP posts:
YoureBeingASillyBilly · 22/11/2013 16:37

Thanks for this freakin. I didnt know they existed. Will watch some this evening as i am on a massive organising mission this weekend while dcs are at their dads.

deepfriedsage · 22/11/2013 18:45

Thanks, sounds an interesting series.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/11/2013 19:19

I could quite happily spend all my time off work watching these sort of programmes instead of doing the house Blush Mind you I vacuumed every inch of my living room carpet today and even got behind the grim sofa.

OP posts:
FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/11/2013 19:21

Tell me if the presenter of Making Space reminds you of anyone famous - hint 80s singer? Wink
