Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners on Channel 4. Where do you rank on the cleaning scale?

I'm sure it's been done but thought I'd do it again as I'm nosey. Wink

I love this tv programme and watch it on catch up if I miss it. Cleaning wise I'd say I'm around the middle, as in not totally tidy but don't like too much clutter. I don't sweat about cleaning windows etc.. but like clean surfaces, clean bathroom and kitchen. Skirting boards, meh, not fussed but do them occasionally. Cobwebs get dusted by ds2 with one of those long pole things.

I'd say washing is my bug bear. We don't own a tumble drier so air dry indoors in winter. I'd love a utility room, that's my dream saddo. I'm not big on ironing and putting away tbh Blush.

So where are you on the ranking? And what's your dream housekeeping thing?

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 23/11/2013 18:42

Not sure if this is at all similar but there is a programme on TLC tonight at 9pm called 'neat freaks' it looks like a similar sort of show.

Freakin my bloody internet cable broke so i cant watch that show yet.

CremeEggThief · 23/11/2013 19:03

FreakinScaryCaaw · 23/11/2013 23:07

FreakinScaryCaaw · 26/11/2013 22:35

I need to declutter again! Had a massive clearout.. Even down to teaspoons in the summer but since having a baby, stuff has mushroomed.
Going to the charity shop tomorrow and selling good clothes and dresses Thursday to local secondhand occassionwear shop.

It is definitely easier to clean when there is less stuff. I am fairly clean ..dh thinks I worry too much, but I know it is not really clean.. Like the stair bannisters need doing, shower needs a good descale but the house looks clean.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 26/11/2013 22:51

Oh I don't think you should clean until your baby starts nursery Littlecurrentbun. That was my motto when mine were little Wink Or at least do the minimum. What needs doing to the bannister?

Im a cleaner too and although my home is far tidier than it used to be it could still be better and im sure some people, if they saw my house on a bad day would burst out laughing if they heard i am a cleaner Grin

However i have noticed that since becoming a cleaner (about a year now) i have felt far more motivated tp keep my own house clean. Programmes like this help also.

Interestingly, my son watched the first half of tonights show and he said "do you remember our old house used to be a bit dirty sometimes mum" which is true (and i had hoped he didnt realise or remember) and we had a conversation about mental health and how it affects our lives and homes. I didnt know whether to tell him about my depression as he is only 8 but he took it very well and i explained it like being sick with a tummy bug and needing to let your mind get better like you do with your body. I hope it helps him be a lot more understanding and less judgemental than the people i have had around me whilst ill.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 27/11/2013 23:03

YoureBeingaSillyBilly that sounds a great explanation. I had a period of depression and just wanted to curl up in bed. Awful. I had 2 young dss too.

It really is a horrible illness isnt it. It think pnd (which i had) is particularly cruel (not meaning to minimise any other mental illnesses) as it is triggered by the thing you should be most healthy for- raising your baby well.

Belize · 27/11/2013 23:26

I love this programme too as it is fascinating seeing what makes people tick at both ends of the scale.

It makes me want to clean and tidy a lot more after I've watched it it has to be said! I'm in the middle scale wise I think, love having people around - esp very tidy, clean people as it motivates me madly to clean like crazy. All goes to pot as soon as they've driven off though Grin!

FreakinScaryCaaw · 27/11/2013 23:28

It is horrible. I'm glad the stigma is finally being erases abeit slowly.

Belize i actually cleared out my roofspace today after watching last nights show! I think i must be working from the top of the house down. So there are lots of boxes in my bedroom now but my roofspace is spotless! Grin
