If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do someting more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings. Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Humungous thanks to SlimChance for leading us through October and such a copy-and-pasteable OP.... Thanks

All welcome!!

Morning all

Blue that sounds so frustrating.

Not sure if DD is coming down with something, or just overly tired, but we've kept her off school today. She grumbled that we would make her go to her old school which she didn't like. But she's settled on the sofa (too cold to put her back to bed) and I think she'll be asleep soon.

Will have to tidy lounge around her. maybe

Done
Beds
Windows
Laundry on
MN

To do
Drape laundry on clothes horses-grr
Tidy lounge
Bag up frozen veg
Make casserole
Make mince pies
Washing up
Dust
Litter tray
Vacuum
Mop
Refuse out

That's enough to be getting on with.

BBL

GoingGoingToGallifrey · 25/11/2013 09:31

Hello kitcatkit, admirable list, but don't overdo it! It's very easy to go charging ahead and then think 'fuck it'.

Flylady suggests doing things in 15 minute sections. It takes years to create the CHAOS, you'll not fix it overnight. Just chip away at it.

BitchytheGreat · 25/11/2013 09:34

If it is really bad motivation Katcat we use the power of three. You are only allowed to make a list of three smallish items. Once that is done you make another list of 3 items. Easier to find a feeling of success as you generally will complete the list as it is so small. Good luck and welcome

Speaking of lack of motivation power of three must be used here today:
check emails
important txts/phone calls
put a load of washing on

AngryBuddha · 25/11/2013 09:45

I hesitated as its quite expensive and rather deep so will take up a bit of space but I think it will be worth it to be able to properly sort our paperwork and find things when we need them! I might even be able to sort out craft related stuff in it eg. sewing patterns, etc. I'm really looking forward to it!

Hi all,
Back again!
I work on Sundays and didn't have a lot of time to do much yesterday. I have been having a very stressful time at work so just wanted to slump around when I got home. We sat and watched muppets Christmas Carol and I had a nice bath.
So this is a home day and I hope to catch up with the zones or whatever?
Did anyone do the master bedroom last week?
I barely scratched the surface, but it will be around again at some point?

Slim I hope the schooling issue is resolved soon for your DD. Is she going into secondary?

Has anyone got a Christmas box? Is it down yet?
I keep thinking I should get mine out and start getting organised.
Is there a countdown thread anywhere?

Now still not quite sorted with the control journal but almost there. I want something that links with calendars because we have a few online and they are very useful for school things and activities.

If anyone uses the book people here is a code for free delivery LUCKY 13
Just got a delivery and that was in the box.

Funny question, but does anyone find the routine part of fly lady a bit claustrophobia inducing?
I like that things are done, but sometimes, when I am indoors for a while following the routines I start to feel anxious and claustrophobic. I don't get this at work or when I am out, but there's something about being indoors with the housework routine!

So today
Check out the zone for this weeks and do a bit on that

S&s bathroom and kitchen
Sort out doctors appointment phone to check records
Washing up for 10 mins
Collect DS and friend
Mini food shop for today and Friday after work
Plan lunch and dinner for Tuesday Wednesday and Friday
Do electoral register online before I get arrested
Water plants
Tumble damp socks and pants (tonight when white meter comes on)
Hang out washing
Put new load on for overnight wash
DS lunch
Guitar practice
Hand out party invitAtions
Move money from one account to another
That is it!

Thanks for reminding me of the power of three!

Ta Da:
1.Work!
2.Collected prescription on the way home!

  1. Had DH sort out my car problems - since Dad died I now have two on my hands. Sounds great, except they are each in separate garages 30 mins drive away! The engine gave up the ghost in Dad's last week, major disaster/tow truck scenario! So reverting back to my old car, which I still hadn't moved along (luckily) which also had the engine replaced in June! What is it with me and my car disasters? Still waiting to get the go-ahead to draw down out mortgage - then hopefully I'll be free to get a car loan for something decent....

Listen to me babbling....

To Do:

  1. Collect foster horse with DH (to keep newly purchased beautiful TB foal Grin company!)
  2. Cook dinner @ DMiL's house.
  3. Tackle ensuite.

Waves to everyone and special welcome to KatCat Smile

In the great laundry issue I seem to have nailed the getting washed bit, the folding and ironing bit but fail at the putting away bit. Anyone found any tips on this. Or is it just a case of put away as soon as put in the right room.
