Oven door really dirty

Hi. I use the oven pride oven cleaning bag/ kit. Which I think is the best thing for doing your racks and the inside of the oven but the glass bit( that you can take out) of the doors is disgusting. I have tried elbow grease and scrubbing with boiling hot water and washing up liquid. I've tried vinegar, window cleaner. Everything. An I put the glass in the oven pride bags too? Any other ideas that will get rid of the grime ?

Yes... A professional oven cleaner. They have magic potions. They work.

Thesunrising · 10/10/2013 00:53

Steep in soda crystals in hot water for a couple of hours. Followed by a good scour/scrub. Usually works for me.

We have sold out house so don't pay £50 or whatever it is for a company to come in. The oven is fine. Just the doors. I shall try the soda crystals. Thanks

Glad I'm not your buyer then! I always get professional in when I sell. Only fair to new owner to have oven sparkling!

BlackMogul · 10/10/2013 01:21

And that includes the door!

pudseypie · 10/10/2013 09:43

Try astonish oven and hob paste on it. I use it on my glass door and it comes up a treat.

mersea208 · 10/10/2013 10:18

Try wire wool and a cream cleaner. Then rinse and dry.

PigletJohn · 10/10/2013 13:00

but not wire wool on glass or aluminium which will be irrecoverably scratched

nancy75 · 10/10/2013 13:02

oven pride is fine on glass, I use it on our oven door all the time

midwifeandmum · 10/10/2013 14:54

I use a gentle plastic mess scourer and fairy liquid in hot water. Works a treat. I unscrew my oven door apart and clean the inside then put back together, looks gd afterwards.

After cleaning with fairy, i dry then clean with glass cleaner for shine

e1y1 · 10/10/2013 15:57

Yes oven pride on the door then wash it in sink a couple of hours later

ceres · 10/10/2013 16:55

I find doctor power good for this - the original paste with the sponge. bit of elbow grease required but strangely satisfying.

whatsonyourplate · 10/10/2013 18:30

You can get special scrapers for ceramic hobs which are basically a razor blade in a holder, which work on glass too. I used one on our oven door and I can now see what's cooking!

dexter73 · 10/10/2013 18:38

Barbeque cleaner is great for just dissolving the brown grot on oven doors in seconds. Just wipe off with some kitchen roll and then wipe with a wet cloth to get any residue off. No scrubbing required!

123rd · 11/10/2013 00:43

Thanks dexter. It's the brown grit that's the problem. (Honestly the rest of the oven is cleanWink)

I used one of those razor blade scrapers for taking paint off glass on our old oven. :)

valiumredhead · 11/10/2013 16:44

Soak a dishwasher tablet it hot water to soften it then use it as an eraser to rub dirt away-amazingly it works with no effort at all.

BurberryQ · 11/10/2013 16:46

soak it in a v strong solution of soda crystals and after cleaning it remove residual brown bit s with a sharp knife.

daftwit · 12/10/2013 21:19

I tried valiumredhead tip, as above, the dishwasher tablet.............. Amazing ! No effort, simple, the brown grease just lifted off , leaving a gleaming glass door. Smile

valiumredhead · 12/10/2013 23:50

Amazing isn't it?Grin I'd tried EVERYTHING and it didn't shift it. It's quite satisfying as it's so easy!

Suddengeekgirl · 13/10/2013 20:19

valliumredhead is a genius! FACT! Grin
Just done my oven door and its sparkling!

Do you think I could do the inside of the oven the same way?

123rd · 13/10/2013 21:08

Does it matter what sort of tab? I would assume the compact powder type? ( we use the liquid tab ones so would up up with a right ol mess ) Grin

I used a tablet (cheap... Tesco economy ) honestly it worked a dream. Makes me wonder how valiumredhead came up with the idea.......... !!!!

LKbabyH · 13/10/2013 22:24

Ovenmate.
Paint on with the brush provided. Wipe gunk off a bit later with kitchen roll, one more time with a cloth or sponge. Done. No smell and no scrubbing! Fab stuff, got it from Lakeland.

valiumredhead · 13/10/2013 23:38

Yes you can do the while oven the same way,I do!Grin
