How do you make your house smell gorgeous?

I try to keep my house well ventilated but as we have a pet, I think the house needs a bit of extra help. Are diffusers any good and do they keep their smell?

Aldi plug-ins. A fraction of the normal price and very effective.

ThePuffyShirt · 21/09/2013 21:51

Visitors always tell us our house smells nice.

I have a candle habit - Jo Malone, Dyptique or White Company. I have White Co Cassis diffuser at mo in dstairs loo - smells lovely.

I always open windows too.

carolmillen · 21/09/2013 21:55

PuffyShirt, how long do you think a diffuser would last for as I did have my eye on the White Company Seychelles one?

ventilation
cleaning
fabric softener on radiators
sholl in shoes

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 21/09/2013 21:56

Love love love the Seychelles one!

JammyTodger · 21/09/2013 22:04

Zoflora down the sinks every couple of days, and Method almondy-smelling floor cleaner.

sonlypuppyfat · 21/09/2013 22:10

Puffyshirt I hope your house does smell nice they are expensive candles

mineofuselessinformation · 21/09/2013 22:10

I've been using Wax Lyrical pomegranate and lychee diffuser oil for over a year as its so lovely. Don't buy their bottles though - you can buy the reeds separately and use any glass containers you like.

carolmillen · 21/09/2013 22:14

I used to have Diptyque candles a long time ago (before I had DC and more disposable income). They are fantabulous (but I can no longer justify that expense weep weep)

They last ages, Carol, I have an empty one in my study & it still smells -about 3 years on.

LittleTulip · 21/09/2013 22:16

Zorflora
Plug ins
Incense sticks
Reed diffusers in the bathrooms
Candles

I can get a bit obsessed with nice smelling things actually

DragonsAreReal · 21/09/2013 22:16

I make a spray of fabric conditioner and water in one of those water spray bottles you can get in the pound shop/super drug.

I spray my curtains and rugs with it and it smells all lovely of clean washing.

Mintyy · 21/09/2013 22:16

Open the windows and doors a lot and quite often have clean washing drying indoors. My house always smells lovely (ie. neutral).

I hate the scent of air fresheners/candles/diffusers.

GemmaTeller · 21/09/2013 22:17

Cut a fresh lemon into quarters, put in sink, pour boiling water over = lemony fresh kitchen

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 21/09/2013 22:18

Yankee candles - they are the only ones that actually give off a smell when burning :)

Lagoonablue · 21/09/2013 22:19

Sorry to go off on a tangent but Puffyshirt , I have to know.....is your name from Seinfeld?

Lagoonablue · 21/09/2013 22:20

Yes Yankee candle do a fab baby powder smelling one.

HairyPotter · 21/09/2013 22:21

Good idea to use fabric conditioner diluted on fabric. Will give that a go. Thanks

WandaDoff · 21/09/2013 22:21

This time of year I clean the radiators with baby wipes soaked in fabric conditioner. It smells lovely when you put the heating on Smile

LamaDrama · 21/09/2013 22:23

Does it depend on the size of the room? As mine are open plan & nothing seems to last.

InTheRedCorner · 21/09/2013 22:24

I like zeflora and we bought some reeds from Debenhams, they were lovely.

carolmillen · 21/09/2013 22:25

That's good to know Puffyshirt - just ordered the Seychelles diffuser thanks

I like the radiators idea too - although my heating isn't on yet so will try that at a later stage.

What is this zorflora and what do I do with it?

timidviper · 21/09/2013 22:29

I'm going to try the fabric conditioner one too, what sort of dilution?

I am always disappointed with candles, even expensive ones, as my house has fair size rooms and high ceilings and they just don't seem to be enough.

ThePuffyShirt · 21/09/2013 22:30

Yes, lagoonablue!
