How do you keep little boy legs warm in winter

I feel like one ignorant mum posting this but well, little girls can wear warm leggings in winter. Boys are stuck with jeans or tracks. How do you keep their legs warm for outside play? I have a two year old. It wasn't a problem for the last two winters (snowsuits to the rescue) but this year we need something different......

Tights under their trousers!

burberryqueen · 17/09/2013 13:23

woolly tights under trousers yes....

mumofthemonsters808 · 17/09/2013 13:24

Last year I got my DS some thermal Long Johns from M & S, they came with a thermal long sleeve vest. He never had them off, which reminds me to get him some for this year before the real cold arrives and they sell out.

stargirl1701 · 17/09/2013 13:24

Tights under trousers. Polarn O Pyret sell their classic leggings for boys & girls.

Pootles2010 · 17/09/2013 13:24

I just use warm joggers?

curlew · 17/09/2013 13:24

Salopettes. TkMaxx always leave loads.

Sarahplane · 17/09/2013 13:25

Fleece lined jeans!

Pipparivers · 17/09/2013 13:25

Tights H&M do good boys ones

snortwithmirth · 17/09/2013 13:26

H&M have some toddler boy tights online, haven't seen them in store yet but I'll be keeping a look out Smile

zgaze · 17/09/2013 13:26

Yes tights. Never understood why people have a problem with this! I got good unisex colours in loads of places, H&M, Mothercare, Asda and even proper boys ones with tractors on in Lidl once. Also H&M do very cheap thin leggings in bright colours which are great under trackies etc.

yy to tights underneath, I used to put a babygrow underneath dts clothes.

Idespair · 17/09/2013 13:27

You can either get heavily lined trousers (Boden do them) or put a ski baselayer under thinner trousers - you can get a baselayer set of top and bottoms rather like a thermal set of pyjamas. They are thin but warm.

nickelbabe · 17/09/2013 13:28

tights.

just put him in tights.

seriously, it doesn't matter, it wont make him gay, it'll just top him from freezing top death.

ShowOfHands · 17/09/2013 13:28

Tights definitely. DS has always worn tights and they're available quite readily now. DS just wears his sister's old tights though as I don't care about putting him in gender specific stuff. In fact, if given the choice he picks pink clothes to wear.

SoupDragon · 17/09/2013 13:28

leggings are no warmer than jeans

They are if you wear them underneath jeans etc, which I think is what was being suggested.

nickelbabe · 17/09/2013 13:28

search boys tights on ebay

Kamchatka · 17/09/2013 13:29

Definitely thermal leggings under trousers. No question. M+S or Polarn O Pyret both good.

nickelbabe · 17/09/2013 13:29

i wouldn't put dd in just leggings, either - leggings under trousers, but not on their own.
winter is really cold!

ChunkyPickle · 17/09/2013 13:30

Lined jeans, thick joggers, and leggings under anything else.

User3433399 · 17/09/2013 13:31

Yep another vote for tights for boys under trousers.

On the web you can actually find 'boys' tights' with cars and dinosaur prints etc. I don't really get the point though, normal tights in dark colours just look like socks when they poke out of trouser legs. I'll be handing down my DDs (pink and all!)

burberryqueen · 17/09/2013 13:35

used to just get normal tights in dark colours like navy blue etc...added advantage for small boys is that their socks do not come off....

spiderlight · 17/09/2013 13:36

Lined jeans, fleecy joggers, Babylegs

PassTheTwiglets · 17/09/2013 13:37

I loathe tights (too much hassle getting them on and off for toilet trips or nappy changes) so thermal leggings are the way to go for me.

CuttedUpGrape · 17/09/2013 13:40

my DS will be wearing tights, just as last year. if it gets really grim i also put leg warmers on top of his (lined) trousers too.
