Steam mop, yay or nay?

CMP69 · 13/06/2013 20:09

And if yay which one?
I may be deluded but I think a steam mop will revolutionise my frankly sluttish cleaning :(
Any thoughts very welcome

Watching with interest. Am on the same opinion!

VerityClinch · 13/06/2013 20:25

I have a Holme steam mop. About £35 from Amazon. I had one that cost more than twice that and it was total rubbish.

WhyohWhyCantIThinkofaFabName · 13/06/2013 20:26

It's a Yay from me! I have a vax one...it's fab...I love not having to store a bit old mop bucket and smelly mop head...you just fill it up plug it in and whizz it round! Then chuck the dirty cloth thing in the wash...job done!
HTH

chelsbells · 13/06/2013 20:27

DH phoned me earlier to say he's bought me a present today... Turns out its a Vax steam mop Hmm - only carpet in our house is the stairs, laminate and tiles everywhere else so holding out a lot of hope! Will let you know how I get on with it!

And yes I did tell him that is not something I class as a present! More a necessity in our house! Smile

ILikeToClean · 13/06/2013 22:35

I have a Bissell lift off, DH bought it for me as an early Xmas present last year (I'm so sad I was quite pleasedGrin). It is v quick and easy to use, fill with water, plug in and go. I have pets so use it daily but I have to say, although it's great once a week or so I still like to have a good old mop with hot water and bleach, just to get it really clean, as I don't think the steam mop "penetrates" the dirt. That's me being sad and anal though Grin!

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 13/06/2013 22:41

It will change your life.

I have this one in green and would replace it the same day if it gave up on me.

I love it.
My floors love it.
There is nothing not to love.

Ignore all the nay sayers.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 13/06/2013 22:43

Oh mean to say - it takes about 20 seconds to heat up. Brilliant.

Steam mops do penetrate the dirt. STEAM cleans.

It is not being 'sad & anal' it's just not being able to change your traditional habits Grin

oohaveabanana · 13/06/2013 22:45

I have a bottom of the range Lakeland one (wanted to suss it out before investing) & am very impressed. Easy to use, and very satisfying amount of grime collected Smile

Amazinggg · 13/06/2013 22:51

Does it clean carpets?

cba googling it

FerrisBueller1972 · 13/06/2013 22:54

Without doubt a yay. Also have a vax - worth its weight in gold. Turns a PITA job a POP (piece of piss) Grin

BabylonReturns · 13/06/2013 22:56

I loved mine at first, but now, I just find it easier to get on my hands and knees with a dettol spray and microfibre cloth and just do it inch by laborious inch!

elah11 · 13/06/2013 22:57

Another one here with a vax steam mop and I can't say enough good things about it! I love it, it almost makes cleaning the floors a pleasure :)

Anjou · 13/06/2013 23:00

Oooh, I'm glad you started this thread, OP, as I'm in the same mind. I've been catching up on Buffy The Vampire Slayer on the SyFy channel each morning while feeding DS2 (sad) and in every commercial break there's an ad for a steam cleaner. At first I was like "aye right, that'll be rubbish" but now I think if I get one it'll change my life! A few have been mentioned on this thread - can anyone else recommend one to buy (or avoid)? Smile

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 13/06/2013 23:13

I have a Vax too and am very pleased with it. It did well in the recent Which reports.

The other mops that did well were Bissell 90T1-E and the Home-tek Light 'n' Easy HT839

chickensaladagain · 13/06/2013 23:18

I've got a shark steam and I love it -cream floor grout and a mop were never a good idea!

LemonBreeland · 13/06/2013 23:22

I have a basic Vax one and love it too. I always hated cleaning the kitchen and bathroom floors. First waiting ages to fill a bucket of hot water. Mopping the floor then not being able to let anyone walk in the room until the floor dried, which seemed to take forever.

With the steam mop it's like whizzing round with the vaccuum, done and dusted in seconds and the floor is dry too.

bootsycollins · 14/06/2013 08:53

I've got a Shark and I love it, the kitchen floor tiles are sparkling and they dry quickly. I fill mine up with Comfort ironing water, smells amazing. In fact I'll be getting it out in a min, mil's coming round this afters Grin

SarahBumBarer · 15/06/2013 09:17

I'm just about to buy one of the H20 cleaners. I know it's a bit more expensice than some but I want some of the extra attachments that most of the others do not seem to have.

DOes anyone know the difference between the X5 and X6 model?

Also does anyone know why Thane Direct is so expensive? They do all the advertising for this product but seem totally uncompetitive on price - are the ebay models etc likely to be legit?

valiumredhead · 15/06/2013 09:35

Nay!

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/06/2013 11:34

I didn't like mine.

I found that a mop with boiling hot water and astonish wood floor cleaner got it shinier.

IWillDoItInAMinute · 15/06/2013 11:45

Yay-I have a Vax too.

With 3DCs, dog and -incontinent- chickens who like to come into the kitchen, it's brill! Grin

ThwartedbyMum · 15/06/2013 11:49

I have the basic Lakeland model and I am very pleased with it. So much easier than mop and bucket!

CMP69 · 19/06/2013 15:10

I think the H2O X5 on qvc for £69 has won me over. I really like the handheld hobby, can see the sparkling shower cubicle already Wink
Have to wait til next week so still open to thoughts

FattyMcChubster · 19/06/2013 15:30

CMP I've just been and ordered it from qvc thank to you Grin
So fingers crossed!
I've been after one for ages but never dared just take the plunge. Always been happy with qvc's return policy so possibly safest way to try it.
My shower might even get a proper clean for once!

memphis83 · 19/06/2013 15:34

Is it good on tiled floors? hate mopping tiled bloody floors
