Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Morning all! Thanks for all your kind words about dd getting through. Tis a weight off the shoulders I can tell you, although next year will be tough: 70% French and 30% Flemish (as opposed to 50/50 this year). Still, musn't start worrying about that now!

Realise I am giving you really horrible impression of education system here when there are good things about it too!! - Should have made it clear before now that it's our own doing really because we have opted for quite demanding "submersion" language school (which is one step beyond "immersion" ifyswim) which is tough going (more actual material to learn for one thing if in two langs). In many schools, the second lang isn't introduced until much later on. But we are hoping early submersion will be easier for dd in long term (although v demanding at the beginning.) So don't let me put you off moving abroad - there are many positive things about it of course I can say that now she has got through.

Toffee headmistress isn't that bad honestly, just very very dedicated and humourless

[Makes comfy nest for Toffeekitten] Hope the poor, wee thing is OK and that test results on Thurs show it is treatable.

Same here Bitchy [props open eyes with matchsticks] couldn't sleep last night - air so heavy you can cut it with a knife. Was up at 3am, 4am, 5am ...then I gave up Confused

That doesn't seem at all fair about the weight loss Pushme - perhaps you have developed loads of muscle (heavier than fat and all that). Whatever the reason, I am sure you will still benefit from sticking with the diet unlike me. I have days most days actually when I am inexplicably much hungrier than at other times - doesn't seem to bear any relation to activity levels. Well done for keeping going. [Your meal plan spread sheet sounds scarily efficient btw]

Well done re: the lost kilo Swan !!

Whoknows sorry to hear about work machinations

Well done Lilleth and Ellie for ploughing on through your lists.

Right, so much to do ... so little time. Boy do I need a good anti-procrastination Wednesday ... but first of all, think I need a coffee ...Wink Grin

Have a good day everyone!!

Asheth · 19/06/2013 11:32

For an anti-procrastination day I've managed to do a lot of procrastinating! I think it's because it's a nice day here and also my only quiet morning in what's turning into a very busy week. So, so far I have taken everything out of the bottom of my wardrobe and put rather a lot of it back again, 15 mins decluttering in DS1's room, done a bit of cleaning in the bathroom, put on a wash and hung it out and a done a bit of shopping. Probably lots still to do, but suspect I wont get much of it done as I've got to get DS3 from nursery soon and then off to a school sporting event.

So sorry to ehar about your kitten Toffee hope the vets can find something to help him.

CHBitchy · 19/06/2013 12:26

toffee I hope you get some good news re kitten :(
SC well done to dd getting through. I know the approach has been harsh BUT I am of the opinion that the work ethic needs to be sorted out fairly young. I don't care about ds' grades I care whether or not he works and cba. a fact that shocks the teacher here because they base on grades only and cba about whether the child actual puts any effort in Angry

Asheth you call that procrastinating? Shock I spent a whole hour this morning talking to a friend putting the world to rights instead of doing anything.

LillethTheCat · 19/06/2013 14:39

I have bought a folder and dividers for my control journal. I have also bought a cheap book for me to write down each day's to do list. I have only been doing it on here and not finding time to come onto MN so I am going to do both.

So far today I have:
Wash DCs bedding
Make our bed
Get DCs ready for school
Go volunteering

Still to do:
Appointment at school re DS (statemented)
Load washing machine for Thurs
Back Lawn (dont think I will have time today)
Daily Mission (dont have a wardrobe, but I might give my empty drawers a wipe out so I can move clothes in there - Me and DD1 are sharing a large chest of drawers until DD2 is big enough for a bed and then I can take her cot down and put a wardrobe in their bedroom)
Shine Sink
Remake DCs bed

Hope Toffeekitten is going to be ok.

trazzle I bet our paths must have crossed at some point if we have both lived in York at the same time then. I only moved out last year and apart from UNI (where I only lived during term time for the first 2 years) Ive never lived anywhere else.

Swan Well done on the no carbing. I wish I could cut carbs out, but I like Pasta, potatos and bread too much. Besides DH does the cooking and we always have something with carbs. Its what we eat most of.

Push hope you have lost some weight. Well done for the 5:2 Im attempting to bring myself up to that slowly. ATM Im trying to hold off eating on Wed's when I go to my volunteering job, but Im just soooo hungry Ive given in today and eaten more than I wanted.

Bitchy That's what I call a good morning: putting the world to rights. Hope you have found your phone today.

Asheth Sounds like you have done a lot to me too.

Right BBL

Swanhilda · 19/06/2013 15:35

oops, just had a Cornetto. Blush

It's been a tiring, hot day.
done
sorted out dd quarrel
recycling
ran a mercy errand
ds2 homework x 2
school gate
ds2 to tutor, and picked him up an hour later
dd and ds2 lunch, and fried some aubergines for dh and I (love them)
kept to low carb till desire for icecream overcame me, tbh I wasn't exactly hungry, just wanted the pyschological break
I load of washing
I load put away
social life for an hour with visitor (found that tiring too)

still have to buy food for supper, make an appt, deal with children for rest of afternoon, go to Beavers Helping, make supper, and TIDY DD's ROOM (she is too low/miserable/coldy to cope with the task)

SC tbh I cannot imagine a headmistress that wouldn't be the serious type, so I supppose that's what we pay them for!

Toffee that is so grownup of ds1 Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/06/2013 16:00

My first afternoon with the house to myself for about a fortnight, it was lovely. Dropped DS back at school at 11.45 after yet another visit to the fracture clinic, went into town to pick up some fresh fruit and came back with two new pairs of shoes, a new bag and the fruit. Oops! I badly needed a new bag, my current one is falling to bits, I have looked all over for one I like and there it was in a small town branch of Peacocks for the princely sum of £12 (canvas shoulder bag). Same with the shoes, I really need some smart black ones for nights out but struggle with my wide feet, there are some Clarks ones I have been coveting but permanently out of stock online, lo and behold, there they were in the tiny branch of Clarks. Bought another pair in the sale too. Now need to declutter some of the cheapo New Look etc ones I have been hobbling in.

Flying wise - 5th lot of washing is on the line, keeping an eye out as it feels thundery (incredibly muggy here today). Done a bit of tidying, need to go and do some more and hoover upstairs, also change DCs bedlinen. Ours too in fact. Then tea and get DD to Brownies.

Question (non-Flying related). Can any of you touch type? I bet a few can. How long did it take you to learn? I have just started an online scheme and while I am making progress it is taking a while.

CHBitchy · 19/06/2013 16:47

not long but I learnt on a job that required it. took a few weeks of every day use. these days I can type in the dark not looking at the keyboard. not got the accuracy I used to have though

Been rather busy today. there is a dent in the bombsite that used to be my bedroom. Hopefully this will once again become a bedroom

elliepac · 19/06/2013 17:16

Evening allSmile.

Spent much of the afternoon in A and E with DS who decided that kicking a football with his foot was way too boring and kicked the concrete with it instead. 1 xray and several doctors later, it is thankfully not broken but badly bruised with strained ligaments.

Currently sat sweltering in swimming lessons and can't wait to go home and relax as it has been a long afternoon.

Back later.

ToffeeWhirl · 19/06/2013 17:39

Owch, that sounds incredibly painful, ellie. Good that it's not broken anyway.

CHBitchy · 19/06/2013 18:56

It was very inconsiderate of the concrete to get in the way of ds' foot Ellie
I suppose I should consider a ta da list. Doesn't feel like I have done very much. Clearly I am measuring this by normal bitchy activity levels.

ta da
wash and dry 3 duvets
wash and dry 3 loads of blankets
wash one load of normal clothes
fold 3 loads of washing
about 2 and half hours' work on my bedroom
put the world to right's with a friend
make homemade pizza for tea
put oat bread mix into bread machine (has about 30mins before can be turned into rolls)
Mix up the dry mix for rye bread dough (will put on in bread machine when oat bread goes into oven)
Cook tea for tomo for the men folk
Check tax checks form.
put clothes away
hand wash comp dress
Play council for someone throughout day (bonus or hinderance of fb and being online)
check emails
Check ds has some needed for tomo - just need to print off the research
sort through post that needs to get dealt with tomo (need to find two cards and get addresses off dm)
Find phone and charger and get it charged.
Shoot out to the big supermarket for a few essential bits.

Yep clearly need a perspective adjustment cos that is clearly not taking things easy and pacing myself Blush

ToffeeWhirl · 19/06/2013 19:22

Oh, sod the housework.

elliepac · 19/06/2013 19:27
ToffeeWhirl · 19/06/2013 19:52

Sod the diet too!

CHBitchy · 19/06/2013 20:04

I am currently helping ds with his homework. I might be joining people in the naughty corner at a very vary rapid pace for Wine or neat vodka. the vodka is currently sounding good.
