Hi all, I know I'm late to the party! But I started a thread on AIBU about how embarrassed I am of my home and was directed here! Thanks threetomatoes!

I think that list is great, had a crap day today, late home from work and tired but completed day one and feeling good about it! Can't believe how much crap was in just two kitchen drawers though!

ZingWidge · 25/07/2013 22:34

hi come

day 1 of holidays and we were grafting for hours - 4 older ones needed a lot of -screaming at them- encouragement, but their shared bedroom has a visible floor again!

2 underbed boxes sorted so far and all the rubbish cleared out.
There's loads more to do, but it's a good start.

in the livingbroom they took off sofa and cushion covers -ready to be washed- we cleaned under and behind sofas.
I threw away to carrier bags full of rubbish.

they also sorted the toy box there and cleaned the dining table and chairs in dining room.

DS5' room is full of clean clothes which I aim to put away tomorrow with kids' help
(spare cot isccurrently used a massive laundry basket!)

I'm looking after DS3's best friend for a few hours then BIL and his DS2 are coming for dinner and will stay the night.
but we'll keep sorting the mess - is it weird I'm looking forward to that?

Wow zingwidge big family! And I think it's hard decluttering with one toddler DD. Sounds like you are doing great though - well done!

My plan today is to start a mini declutter at work (desk and email) are appalling and complete Day 2 of the 40 day challenge (with DH's help). I'll check in later too say how I did Grin

ZingWidge · 26/07/2013 09:03

I just read back mu post yesterday and realised I wrote livingbroom!Grin

yes, thanks. we have a 15 month old DD as well so 6 in total.
hence the "bombsite in a pig sty after an earthquake" style home decor! Grin

I'm on a roll - day 2 complete. DH and I sorted out crockery, glasses and Tupperware and cleaned the cupboards. I also wrote out an amended plan for next 40 days, designed around my house. I will do this!

cikecaka · 27/07/2013 07:36

Hiya, would love to join in! Had attempted before but didnt manage it. Nearly a year here so will be up for inspection soon (renting). House is a tip!
6 of us in a 3 bed house. Trying to decide whether to start at top or bottom of house.
Washing machine was broken, so trying to get on top of that.
Am going back to sleep for now, DD2 away with scouts so was waiting on boat to dock

ZingWidge · 27/07/2013 07:45

cike

I was debating where to start as well! I decided from top to bottom unless something else is more urgent.

I have a week without children so am attempting a whole house declutter. Yesterday I did my food cupboards but am getting distracted by mnet and friends! Need to focus! Today has to be a garden day unfortunately but will also do cupboard under kitchen sink

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 27/07/2013 19:08

Today cut grass front and back, deadheaded, watered and fed baskets and pots, cleaned out the cupboards where I keep my spices and oils and gutted the cupboard under the sink. So not a bad day's work.

ZingWidge · 27/07/2013 20:15

I have not stopped today.
too tired to list.Wink

takeaway2 · 27/07/2013 20:30

Hi all
Can I join? Tried to do that declutter one thing a day thing but stopped after a while when work got in the way (travelling etc). I did do my office and got rid of at least 10 bags of recycling paper. Then I stopped as the lull period was over.

I'm fed up with toys everywhere. I have 2dc. One 5 and one nearly 3. I think my problem is that somehow there's toys everywhere. Eg pieces of a particular jigsaw might be both up and downstairs. Or a piece of down thing be in another box.

I don't really have time when the kids aren't around but I do try and get rid of things. But it gets too much when I find myself having an almost complete set but missing two things. It could be in the next box or it could be upstairs! Help?!!! Any solutions gratefully received.

I managed to declutter the DCs craft table. I am so happy. It took maybe 10-15 min to go through. Threw out a pile of paper and old stickers etc and frankly it was a great feeling.

Am going to start a pile of old baby stuff like bottles and spoons. May give to church seeing that they recently asked through the bulletin for buggy and car seat for a young couple, I might add to the pile for that couple. Smile

Tried to post earlier, but it wouldnt post for me. Got a kickstart last night. DS rang to say a friend was staying over, cue me running upstairs. Changing his bed, tidying the room and hall. Giving the bathroom a once over!. DH suggested pretending someone was coming over every day to get me to move.

Started on DDs room today, cleared the floor of clothes and rubbish, hovered and moved the room about (has bunk beds, single bed and wardrobe in it!)Hung up DD1s clothes. I put my timer on for 15mins, kept resetting it and before I knew it I had an hr done!

morethanpotatoprints · 28/07/2013 22:32

I have been doing this for ages and have thrown 10 things away each day. Everywhere is looking a bit better but it will take much longer than 40 days.

ThreeTomatoes
I have done just that because we had so much rubbish 10 things a day didn't make enough difference. Grin It's even more liberating the second time round and of course more difficult as the easy things have already gone.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 29/07/2013 17:57

I cleared out dd's room- took over 4 hours and still not finished but I'm knacked. Another dc room tomorrow :-(

cikecaka · 29/07/2013 18:43

Need to get motivated, myself and 2 dds are heading away for 2 days tomorrow. Nothing packed. Clothes in washing machine!

cikecaka · 29/07/2013 19:07

15 mins done, Clothes hung up, another wash on! Next 15mins set
