Do you wash poo things separately?

After 8 months we still get the occasional nappy explosion, and I can't make up my mind whether the affected vest (it's usually a vest) should be washed separately (what a waste of a wash!) or rinsed and then washed together with other things (but do the poo germs spread?!). What do you do? Hot wash but together with other whites?

What my MIL would do: soak it first in a bucket of hot water with Napisan. Then wash it.

What I do: bung it all in together.

In the beginning this wasn't so much of an issue as there were many poo things! Grin

Ah yes thanks Poppy - I don't even dare to ask DM as she thinks I wash very irresponsibly anyway (mixing all sorts of things she would never mix)!

All DD's stuff tends to be washed together anyway because we don't have so much in the way of whites.

aah, poo stew. That takes me back. There's nothing like the scent of poo being lightly boiled in your washing machine. Grin

I think it's best to rinse as best you can. Too much poo in your washing machine and the smell clings to everything.

I have accidentally washed entire poos. Suddenly caught sight of a big brown log going round and round and round.

It doesn't always disintegrate. Sometimes you simply end the cycle with a very clean poo in the middle of your washing.

They don't bloody tell you this stuff in the parenting books!

I've always put solids down the loo, rinsed off the worst of it in the utility room sink if more liquid and then bunged in with the rest of the wash.
I would only wash separately for D&V bug to minimise infection spreading but regular accidents just get washed.

A rinse/scrub with an old tooth brush, then a soak with some vanish, then into the wash with some lightly scented fabric softener. I find it hard enough to keep up with the washing without washing a pair of pants separately!!!

Also, after washing, My DM advised me to always hot iron baby vests, bibs etc as the extreme heat will help to kill bacteria. Sound advice which is probably the only tip I ever really followed from her.

Not anymore. But I do a napisan prewash on the whole load and wash at 60 if something has poo on it.

DS still has few formed poos at 24mo :(

we sometimes rinse nappies first occasionally not, and then just shove the crest of the whites in. inc dh work shirts and bibs and flannels. wash at 60. figure the machine should uphold its side of the bargain. been doing that for a year with no ill effects to date.

Jollyorange DS was about 4 before his poo stopped being so loose. Toddler diarrhoea is very common. We just used to cut his pants off and throw them out.

with diarrhoea I smean smelly 'ill' diarrhoea. not 'toddleroea' (slowly growing out of it...)

Soak in special aka "poo bowl" with sprinkle of soda crystals. Ring out, stick in washer for a couple of rinse and spins then wash as normal in machine with DS other stuff.

I soak, then wash separately. When I've not done that the smell of hot poo being tumble dried is horrendous.

Disco, as DS is our first I didn't even realise other children did have solid poos until I came on here! It's just the norm for us. We've always had to carry extra clothes for DS.

With two children with soiling issues there has been many a time I have fished out a very clean poo from the washing machine!

I have accidentally washed entire poos.

I usually try to get rid of the lumps and then it all goes in together. The only thing I keep away from poo-clothes is DS's comforter

Going through toilet training right now. Excess off, then only pooey items straight in for cold rinse. Then make up wash with other stuff and wash with extra rinse cycle ( I treat it like nappies) half washing liquid and instead of fabric softener I put some drops of lavender essential oil in the softener compartment. Makes the clothes smell lovely.

In this house it really depends on how bad it is.
There have been some shockers where he has come back from town in just his nappy and a blanket. those clothes got scraped and their own wash first.
Otherwise they all go in together with vanish powder and antiseptic.

very clean poos.

I just chuck it all in but I don't wash cold and I'm quite confident in my washing machine. I do a hot wash for towels and sheets and the poo stuff often goes in there.
