Should sheets be the same colour as the duvet? Yes, you heard it here first.

Need to buy new bedlinen for my daughter's room. Can't decide whether it will be easier to buy sheets in the same colour. Well, it will be easier to keep the set together but have only ever bought white sheets before so it seems a bit, well, weird.

Totally non event problem I appreciate but if you have strong views on bedlinen, please share them.

Doesn't bedding come in sets? The only bedding I've ever bought comes in sets of sheet, 4pillow cases and duvet cover.

No sheets and pillowcases should always be white.

Duvet covers come separately from the sheet. Frets too. Wrings hands in despair. Am overthinking this but I can't stop.

My DS has white duvet cover & pillow cases but a coloured bottom sheet to brighten up the room & match other junk accessories. It looks fine. I only ever have white bed linen in my room & on the other beds but I'm 35 and DS is 7... I think you should get what she wants, within reason or at least compromise.

All white sheets here, regardless of duvet cover colour. (Ours are white, dcs vary) Hth!

No. The current fashion for beds is for sheets, duvet and pillow cases to coordinate, not to match. White bedlinen is very passé. You want a combination of plain colours and patterns.

I think get whatever your dd wants, its her bed after all. Nothing bad will happen if you have a few garish coloured sheets knocking around!

I used to have a blue one when I was little, I still remember it because it was the softest one and my sisters and I used to fight over it Blush

Mix and match here - we have white sheets and matching pillowcase/duvet sets on our bed, the spare bed has coordinating but not matching sheets and duvet sets, the DCs have white sheets at the moment, but that it only because they've got non standard sized beds and there weren't many options.

It doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things. Or even in the small scheme of things. It just happened to be what was preoccupying me. And when cash is a bit tight, you want to buy the right thing so you don't have to buy again or hate what you have.

I think decorating (for this is what we are talking about) matters a lot. It is important to feel good/happy in your own space. Since colour barely makes a difference to the cost of bedlinen, why not be creative with it?

It was more that I don't like coloured sheets but I thought it might be practical. All things of that colour on that bed sort of thing.

My DD currently has Nina Ricci Eglantine duvet cover and pillow cases (in the pink), with a mauve linen valance from Caravane. Her bedroom was recently redecorated in Elephant's Breath paint from F&B. She loves it!

Thanks! My DD is 8 - I am sure she will want something quite different in a few years' time. Bedlinen is a great way to update a bedroom.
