How can I make my bed super luxurious?

I bought a lovely new kingsized bed when I moved house but am only just getting round to buying new bedding/linen to dress it with. My old feather quilt & ancient pillows are getting a bit thin now and I'd like to get a lovely thick super king sized quilt, new pillows, linen, cushions, bolster pillows, maybe a beadspread/throw type thing. Help me make my bed even more inviting than it is at the moment. Tell me what I need! Thanks, Pops

For super king stuff I like the bedding on qvc by northern nights. I also like their duvets, feather beds and pillows.

I always like a duvet a size bigger than the bed for luxury. We have a continental super king bed that is fairly low with an emperor size duvet which sumptuously drapes to the floor on either side. It is silk filled from the White Company and is the best thing I've ever slept in.

I bought 1000 thread count sheets and pillowcases from Debenhams in the 70% off sale.
They are just divine to sleep on.

I've not thought of trying QVC gregs I'll have a look now.

Another vote for 1000tc sheets. Egyptian cotton.

We like a mattress topper, the thicker the better.
Oversize duvet that goes as close to the floor as you can get.
High quality pillows that you actually use (vs. ones you just throw off and have to pick up in the morning!).
Neck rolls.
Lighting that suits your needs (ie. mounted reading lights)

Can you tell we are a tiny bit obsessed with the comfort of our beds?

We've got this on our bed, but in a dusky pink. It looks really nice and the duvet cover and pillowcases wash well.

I've bought bedding from Dawsons too. They are really reasonable.

theoriginalgomummygo I like your style. I love my bed and try and spend as much time in it as I can. Nowt wrong with making it as wonderful as possible imo.

John lewis siberian goose duvet . I bought this for myself a few weeks ago, it's amazing, like being hugged by a cloud. I love it. I will never have anything else ever again . I also struggle to sleep in sheets which contain polyester. I've tried silk sheets but found them too slippy and my pillow and duvet kept sliding off the bed! I stick to good quality cotton sheets now.

reastie That duvet would be £570 for our bed! I need a good duvet but am scared of paying that much.

All of you recommending 1000tc sheets. Do you have to iron those? They sound gorgeous but ironing sheets is a step too far for me.

I have a "luxury,feels like down" duvet from debenhams in super king size. It's so soft. It costs me about £50 a couple of years ago in the sale.
Then I buy my duvet covers from tkmaxx , usually Egyptian cotton or flannel.
Flannel is very cosy in winter.

yes I know I had to swallow hard and look the other way when I paid for mine . It is sooooo dreamy though. I am a little scared DH will spill tea all over it or DD will be sick on it or something.

You definitely need a northern nights mattress topper! How I love sinking into my bed at the end of an exhausting day. So so comfortable and I could never not have one now!!

I've been generally co sleeping with my dds consecutively over the past six years. Had been trying to hold off making our bed super luxurious because of the vomit/wee/poo/breast milk factor. Got a bit fed up waiting though, so I got a white company feather mattress topper. Covered that with a waterproof mattress protector (it kind of takes away a bit from the luxurious ness of the feather topper, but better that than a vomit/wee/poo/breast milk combo). Then a washable microfibre duvet, which isn't actually all that bad. White company sateen duvet cover. New pillows with quilted pillow protectors -all from John lewis. It's quite a nice bed! I did want a new big huge bed with all the trimmings, however, I didnt want to spend a fortune on the dream bed that would be very susceptible to the vomit/wee/poo/breast milk accidents that we've encounter over the years. Also, we are currently on the top floor of the house with the dds bedrooms. We will move to a different floor whenever were ready. And then a bigger bed has a better chance of fitting up the stairs.

All in all, pretty luxurious on a budget...

Duvet underneath as well as on top. Very comfy, and warm.

No no no, you'll wreck the duvet! Get a memory foam mattress topper. Toasty AND comfortable.

I have a mattress topper, a fab - but super cheap - 10.5 tog microfibre duvet from Next. i find it really light and very warm. My most luxurious item is my White Company 100% linen bedlinen. It was ruinously expensive but I love sleeping in it.

Does the 1000TC linen require loads of ironing tho and does it like the tumble dryer?

The 1000 thread count sheet I just tumble dry and put back on the bed or fold it. I dont iron much and definitely not bedding.

Try to avoid the white company, I haven't got linen so I can't comment on that, but the cotton wears through quickly on the bottom sheets.

My mattress protector shrunk so it doesn't quite fit the mattress and it let stains through. Nothing's been spilt on the bed so I don't know how they got there.

I've paid nearly £500 for sheets and protectors that just aren't lasting well or looking nice.
