FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

Toffee - you can buy tortoises because MIL did, and they sell them at the local garden centre. They have to be bred in this country though so you buy them as tiny babies - a very long term commitment! And I think the breeders have to be licenced.

Would your MIL really not come into the house if the small furry creature was safely hidden away in DS1's bedroom?

Have done no flying at all today, but the plastic pot cupboard has degenerated into chaos again so may have to at least attempt the mission tomorrow. Was mostly a nice day, though, with minimal child-related hassle, a trip to the park with DS2, a visit to friends with both boys, no cooking and choir this evening. :)

Big waves all round...

issima I am just the same, I get really frustrated with how little I achieve during the day. I think it is because before I had dd I worked and studied, and got used to getting a lot done in a short space of time. today I have just about managed to get dressed and eat lunch in the gaps between dd needing feeding or comforting. I put a load of washing on first thing and still haven't had chance to hang it out Shock

I had a total breakfast fail - made toast, put some pate on one slice, then realised it was mouldy. tried to put jam on the other slice but dropped the jar on the floor and it smashed. swept up glass, then dd started crying so grabbed a kitkat instead and ate it while feeding her.

today I am waiting in for a parcel which still hasnt arrived, so can't go out and enjoy the sunshine either Sad

ta da
washing on
feed dd 643 times
eat lunch

to do
washing up
declutter
hang washing out and put yesterday's load away
shine sink
filing
take recycling out

Right. 20 items ironed (I count it out like that or else I become too overwhelmed).
Let?s see what you lot have been up to since last round-up Smile

SpecialC has a poorly ds who has been being sick after eating, which is a worry for her and not good for Mt wash more! - Hope he?s feeling better.
Toffee is thinking about pet tortoises. I?ve seen some in my local garden centre too. Lifespan of about 50 years though isn?t it?
Blue had a good day yesterday but no FLYing.
Mercury was volunteering at school today. Hope it went well and you had a good day.
NickNacks had a rough night last night with both boys not well and dd wetting the bed. My ds1 wet the bed last night too.
issimma and BigPigLP had rough night?s sleep last night so were feeling shattered this morning. Hope you?ve had a peaceful day and get more sleep tonight.
Lilleth had an exam tonight. Am sure you nailed it!
mrsb was thinking she?d miss the sun as she was waiting in for a delivery- hop eit came early. Yuk to mouldy pate, but all been there! Grin
NickNacks I love a good old moan! Moan away Grin
Crikey came back! The new job is going well so she has been very busy but is keeping the sink shiny Smile

That?s it from me tonight I think.
If I start ?talking? I will start moaning and I won?t stop!

Morning!!

Im awake bright and early as not so 'd'p got up for work at 5 and woke dd, who in turn woke ds and now the whole Mercury household is up - Im in school again today so it is going to be a long day!

Silvery I also count how many items of clothing I am going to iron as it's less overwhelming than trying to work my way through the whole pile/mountain!

Yesterday I did everything on my list except the ironing - I went to see my dmum for a Brew and a chat instead, which I think is time well spent.

So here goes list for today:
All up fed, dressed and to school
Wm on
Washing hung out
Dry clothes folded
Clean clothes put away
Ironing - must get this done
Dw on, emptied and reloaded
Downstairs dusted and hoovered
Beds made
Vounteering at school
Start preparing presentation for interview
15m declutter kitchen cupboards
2m hotspot - kitchen table
15m mission - clean small appliances
Dinner/tidy
Hopefully trip to the park after school if the sun is shining Smile

Have a lovely, productive day everybody.

Only 6 days late and have to be quick as need to sew yet more feathers on DD's World Book day costume. The whole school are doing Roald Dahl this half-term so that's the theme and she wants to go as the Roly Poly Bird (think Bird of Paradise) As she is usually very quiet and shy and hates being the centre of attention I have really helped her 'go for it' with this one. We are both rather excited now :)
Luckily DS wants to go as George from George's Marvelous Medicine so he is easy!

Haven't read much of thread yet but:

Welcome to newbies, it takes a while but it works if you don't burn yourself out in the first week - slow and steady is the way to do it. Says she who has been here for 3 years and still doesn't have a show home

ellie - wishing you strength to get through life at the moment

SC - I hope the funeral went as well as these things can do and gave everyone a chance to say goodbye in the way they wanted. Go easy on yourself re everything else, you need to look after yourself if you are to look after all the others

Trazzles - you are in my thoughts as always

Mercury - hope day isn't too long

Quick list:

  • More feathers
  • Laminate posters
  • All up and out
  • Posters up at school
  • WORK
  • Back to school for Mother's Day crafts session
  • Sainsburys for petrol and Marvelous Medecine chocolate milk
  • More feathers
  • Parent's evening
  • Hopefully final feathers

Morning all, well this week has been so busy that I haven't had time to post but have been trying really hard with actually doing some form of housework everyday including cleaning up dog vomit

Day off today so am going to try and catch up on the missions I have missed this week (although I have recently culled my storage containers so that should be fairly easy)

To do
Feed & walk the dog
Finish cleaning the window I started on Sunday!!
Change my/DH bed
Sort some laundry
Tidy & dust sitting room
Kitchen
Sweep and mop floors

Done
Dressed to shoes (I'm including this one as it is always very easily doable for me as I have to take DC to school and makes me feel like I have actually achieved something on the list Grin)
Kids at school with all the correct bits of homework / kit

If I get all that done I will be very chuffed with myself. I am gong to a friends this evening for the first of a craft evening we have started so will hopefully really feel like I have earned it Grin

Day off today so I should be able to update later as to how I got on!

MrsB Lovely to hear that someone caught the last of the sun in a beer garden with DH yesterday. That is exactly what I wanted to do but instead had a mad rush to get DC from after school, take them to Beavers, back to school for parents evening so had a manic evening with DC both late to bed and me collapsing on the sofa shattered and with no Wine

Suspect today will be a bit of a fail. Another bad night as dd is full of cold bless her - puffy eyes, streaming nose, runny bottom. She's feeling very sorry for herself Sad

We've been food shopping though, and to the butchers to get venison for a casserole (yum), bought a greenhouse, paid the credit card bill. Haven't unloaded any of the purchases from the car yet but hey ho, the day is young
