FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

Hi ladies,

I won't say it has been a 'good' day, but I did manage a little flying when I came in from work. Just chilling with a cup of tea and a cuddly cat for a little while.

Ta-Da : washed last night's dinner dishes and pots Blush and wiped down counters, folded a load of towells from TD and put away, loaded WM (then realised that I am out of detergent Blush), and rescued the bathroom - scrubbed grubby sink, s&s, washed floor, disinfected toilet.

To-Do : paperwork for CC transfer, dinner (pork chops for DH, pork chop stirfry for me Smile), 15 minute declutter and bedlinen change in the boudoir, resurrect my blog, ring my mum, do piano theory, piano scales, piano practice (in an effort to make up for doing none since my lesson last Thursday)....and if I get most all of that done I might just go and visit Pinterest - am loving putting ideas together for our new house (yes, the house that we STILL haven't gotten a mortgage to finish yet... Sad) and do my before bed routine.

SC I just replied to your other thread. Hope I didn't confuse things further...

Louise85 · 20/03/2013 19:37

Hello everyone, glad to see you all doing fairly well. I've got the dreaded cold lurgy, so the house is even worse today...zero flying done today, although I may attempt to shine my sink before bed, but that might be pushing it...tomorrow has got to be better or I might completely lose the plot

Dh is out for the night, so I'm getting a Brew and chocolate that I confiscated from the sugar addicted toddler Grin

SilveryMoon · 20/03/2013 20:10

Good evening fellow fledglings. How are we all?
Snow Thanks for that, I can absolutely believe that children show improvement with positive feedback. I highly doubt ds1 is getting any of that in class from his extremely negative teacher Sad
Grin @ your dd ?cleaning? the tables with snot covered tissues
WhoKnows has to be the busiest person I know! Where do you find the time? Hope you feel better soon.
Nicknacks?s friend has just moved and is managing to keep a show home with a toddler and being 7mths pregnant Envy
sc feels she is living in chaos atm. Sorry to hear that but I have every faith you?ll get on top of it soon. Little and often is definitely the key. Thanks re the clue. Think I got it, but didn?t want to say anything linking names together Smile
sc has been helping her dd with maths and is interested to hear from any maths whiz?s in her thread here
elles 4mo has been suffering post jabs. Hope she recovers soon Sad
louise sorry to hear you?re still feeling rough Sad

An ok day today, I managed to get out of class for nost of the day and catch up on some resource making which makes me very happy.
Have completed my normal routines and also did 15 mins detail in the bedroom. I wiped down the walls and door frames, hovered the curtains and polished cabinets. What I really needed to do was organise the top shelf in the closet.

Off to get links for tomorrow.

Done: emptied dishwasher, put a load of washing on; put clothes out for tomorrow.

Haven't bothered dusting the top of my doors, but following on from yesterday's sock drawer clear out, I've cleared out my bra drawer!

Still do to: hang washing out.

BlueEyeshadow · 20/03/2013 23:08

How did today's list go? Hmm...

Change sheets
Ironing
Dusting
Label and box up NCT sale stuff - 3/4 done
Dump charity shop stuff
Work
Paperwork
Work out what to do with unsellable stuff

Ended up with DS2 home with a v high temp this afternoon so no to-do list for tomorrow until I know whether he'll be going to nursery or not - might bounce back overnight.

Going - Ouch! Hope the leg eases up overnight too.

Big waves to everyone else.

Castlelough · 21/03/2013 00:48

I managed some of my list this evening - bedlinen changed in our bedroom and vacuumed around various piles on the floor... still, it's looking a lot better. I spent two hours on piano, rang mum, dinner and washed up, re-potted an orchid and mended a tear in dh's work trousers. Now....to bed, hmmm I supposse I should work on that babystep!
Tomorrow is a busy one, am out until 6, then dinner and clean up, and should call in to see dmil too. Just going to aim to do some decluttering tomorrow in the bedroom and reboot laundry. Nite :-)

Goth I hope you are feeling better tomorrow x

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 21/03/2013 02:17

early night? yeah that went out of the window. Spent a lot of time talking to a friend who is going through a break up. it was the right thing to do but really, i am going to miss that early night tonight tomo.

will catch up tomo or something. sleep.... night.

GoingGoingGoth · 21/03/2013 09:14

Morning, thanks for good wishes.

I had to roll out of bed this morning (so dignified) but definitely better than last night. Have just sent Dh out on school run despite his awful cough as I just don't think I'm up to the walk this morning.

It's our 10 wedding anniversary today, and between us we make 1 healthy person. At least it's sunny.

Hang washing out

May skip today's mission as we had a massive clear out before moving & I've not allowed myself to buy any unnecessary clothes. Lots of thermals, but they are certainly being kept.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 21/03/2013 11:25

From where i sit, wearing the thermals would be good. it is freezing this morning!!!! Hope it is less painful and heals quick soon Goth

Slow start to the day here. suffering from the late night as expected. But onwards and upwards. Need to get laundry done and deal with the bin in ds' room. From the smell that is coming from there it could walk itself out note to self don't trust ds to empty bin when he is asked and check it

Haha Goth So far this year, I think the thread has run smoothly, we have been given all the info we need and I worry that I'm forgetting something....

About to catch up with last night's Grey's and then Blue Bloods.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/03/2013 21:12

. Shall we just say that sometimes the thread runs more smoothly than others .

Silvery - I'd rather have the links the night before than in the morning, that's when I do them when I run the thread, so keep up the good work, you're nearly at the end of the month now. I always feel that other people do a better job of it than me. I just think it's brilliant the way people come and go, different thread leaders have different styles, we all witter on about stuff completely unconnected to housework and it just keeps going. You must go to Ikea BTW. My DS is gutted that he's too old for the creche now at 9.

Happy Anniversary Goth

Ta-da!

Nit comb DS - crawling in them
Morning routine, school run etc
Finished OU module!
Admin/paperwork
Back to school for concert
Into town to sort passport
Home and grab lunch
BAck to school to accompany an outing to the dreaded sports centre
Hour and a half yakking with the other accompanying mums in the cafe
Walk back to school
SOrt out huge piles of clothes and shoes (both DCs have had activities that have meant coming home in PE kit in the last 2 days)
Come home
Collapse for a bit
MAke dinner and cakes for cake sale tomorrow
Bath and nitcomb DD (thankfully nit free)
DCs to bed

No housework done and none in prospect tomorrow really as I will be doing lunchtime and afternoon volunteering at school again. DD has got her drama production in the evening too. Will be glad when this week is over TBH, everything we are doing is enjoyable but I feel as though an entire term's worth of child-related stuff has all landed on one week.
