FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

Tense and argumentative with boys, not DH, by the way... I've been re-reading the Buttons book this evening and it all makes so much sense. I'm just so rubbish at applying it!

Snowgirl1 · 17/03/2013 23:09

Okay, Monday is the new January for me.

I was overly optimistic that DD was getting better last Tuesday. DH took DD into nursery on Wednesday only to for her to have an explosively nasty nappy before she got there, so I got called back to collect her before I even made it in to work. We spent the rest of the week taking days off in turn to look after her (and doing lots and lots of washing). DD is only just back to normal today - fingers crossed she makes is okay for nursery tomorrow. Yesterday, DH went down with the bug DD has had.

I am looking forward to tackling our bedroom next week.

Sorry, have been AWOL for a while. I just haven't had time to read through the thread recently. Hope you are all ok. Will try to get back and catch up soon.

Have been encouraging my boys to help with housework - this is the way forward Grin.

SilveryMoon · 18/03/2013 20:10

Right, that?s the studying done. Just typed up an assignment but didn?t put much effort in so will probably have to re-submit.
Anyhoo, what have you lot been up to?
elles is feeling better and that throat infection has finally cleared, so like me, she has viwed to make a better effort this week Wink although I am already failing with the lack of mission and detail today. Ho hum.
Goth Reported that her sinus headache has cleared up. Pleased to hear it.
Blue What?s this Buttons book you speak of?
Snow Has had a very poorly dd but she is now (hopefully) getting back to normal. Hope so snow.
Choas doesn?t have a washing machine until Wednesday. I feel your pain, we had to go a week recently without ours, I didn?t even know we owned that many clothes!

Silvery - When Your Kids Push Your Buttons And What You Can Do About It

Waves to Toffee - sounds like a plan!

I intended to do a house bleugh today but between the boys leaving bricks all over the sitting room carpet and work coming in, it just didn't happen. Maybe tomorrow... Will at least try to tame the sock drawer!

SilveryMoon · 18/03/2013 21:17

Thanks for the link Blue. Think I will be investing in that one.

OP posts:
Snowgirl1 · 18/03/2013 21:38

Didn't get any FLYing done in the bedroom today, but did wash the doormat (it's a washable turtlemat number - I didn't throw a coir mat in the washer); folded towels; cleaned toilet; and have taped a small tub of descaler to the head of the kitchen tap.

I might not follow FLYlady to the letter (not even in the right room), but I like that it motivates me to do something to keep on top of the grim.

Maybe I'll try to toe the FLYing line tomorrow and chuck some socks out.

pushmepullyou · 18/03/2013 22:15

Evening all Smile

Had a bit of a rubbish RL over the last few days. Nothing critical but it's thrown me off my flying stride somewhat! Back on the wagon today and have managed most of the critical tasks. Driving to Stirling and back tomorrow so I'm not expecting a big flying day. Will be mostly restricted to tidying up mess made by two small children once I get back I expect.

In honour of the zone I shall room rescue the bedroom and polish the mirror before bed though Grin
