FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

SilveryMoon · 13/03/2013 12:19

Welcome xben I'd say don't over think ittoo much. Lots of posters don't do the missions yet, just stay with 15 mins a day de cluttering and have a look at shining your sink. Each day add a new babystep and ignore the crap ones, you'll know which ones I mean.
In the evenings I'll post links to baby steps and daily focus etc. Don't do too much it's all about routines.

Hope everyone's having a good day. Bbl

ellesabe - that sounds nasty. Definitely take yourself off to the docs. And get an early night tonight if you can.

Sorry for everyone suffering illness/injury or feeling overwhelmed by clutter. I can't keep up with this thread at the moment, but am lurking when I can. Have a definite case of CBA, but sometimes I don't have the energy to keep the house pristine as well as home ed. Must do better!

ToffeeWhirl · 13/03/2013 19:20

Felt so guilty after posting about my CBA case that I pulled myself together and now have a 'ta da' list Grin:

D/W unloaded and reloaded
Dinners cooked
House hoovered
Mirrors polished
Brass knobs polished
Bins emptied
Room rescues - kitchen, sitting room
Guest towel in b'room

Phew.

XBenedict · 13/03/2013 20:34

well flippen heck I went in to do 15 mins of decluttering in DDs room and 4 hours later her room looks fabulous! I also dejunked the bathroom and now have full control over bottles of shampoo/shower gel/conditioner/nit lotion/creams/toothbrushes and toothpaste. One of each out on the side the rest neatly put away in my little cupboard. Feeling very smug Smile

Tomorrow I am going to tackle the spare room - could be traumatic. My spare room wardrobe is full of ball gowns from my military days. Well those days are over Sad and I'm unlikely to a) go to that kind of event again and b) fit into any of them anyway!! Blush This will free up loads of space.

SilveryMoon · 13/03/2013 20:38

Evening fellow fledglings.
I've been trying for hours to get my laptopconnected to Internet but it's not having it. Very frustrated.
So I am on my phone. Can someone post tomorrow's links please?
I'm going to read through the thread for today but can't roundup on my phone.
I am really sorry.

Other than that, today has been a better day, non flying wise.
I had a talk with my teacher today (am a ta) and told him I am finding it difficult to work in the amount of clutter and disorganisation in class (being an asd class there shouldn't be anything clutter like about). That I also was passepissed off at him not leaving planning and the amount of days I've had to cover teaching.
Got a lot off my chest but feel it fell on deaf ears. HHope everyone else is ok and I am going to continue to get online but inthe meantime will catch up on today.
Not much flying done, just normal routines. Will try harder tomorrow
Not

pushmepullyou · 13/03/2013 22:25

Well I've done precious little flying today (except routines and the mission) so by way of making myself feel better about it here are the links on behalf of silvery

Tomorrow is the 14th and the baby step is to read an essay kelly wrote about organising a calendar . I've done it so you don't have to unless you're feeling really keen. The short version is find a calendar that works for you and is easy and convenient to fill in (a wall calendar is good). Keep an pen with it. Fill it in whenever you find out about an event or appointment.

Personally I use either outlook or more usually my work online calendar as it sends me an email every morning telling me what I've got on.

Thursday's mission is to clean the bath and empty the bin Both overdue tasks in the pushme household so I'll be trying to make sure I do this one.

Thursday is errand day . I am fairly relaxed about my definition of errands but usually use it to catch up on admin and/or online shopping tasks that I have let slip.

For those of you following it the flight plan is here - I think. I do actually find the flight plan quite a useful prompt when I cba to think about what I should be doing let alone do it (which is most days tbh Blush ).

Off to catch up with the thread BBL Smile

Evening lovely ladies Grin
Massive thank you to pmpy for covering for me last night Wink. It seems it was just a blip with the internet, is working fine now.

I?ve had another crap flying day. Barely managed my routines, must try harder next week (again).

nettie Glad the funeral went smoothly.
NickNacks How was the assembly?
mrsb I don?t use a calendar. I use a diary that lives open on the top of the microwave. I don?t colour code or any of that crap. I?m the only one who looks at it so I don?t need to make it simple as for anyone else.
Louise Had a rough night with her ds last night. Well done for posting a list. Don?t be too hard on yourself though. Hope tonight is better.
elles has a throat infection and is rubbish at remembering to take anti-biotics. I set reminder alarms on my phone. Fingers crossed dd doesn?t get it too, but they are quite resilient.

Been a slightly better day at work today. After I spoke to my teacher about how I was finding it difficult to work in such mess and disorganisation, today he attempted to organise his shit clutter.
Thank Fuck tomorrow is Friday.

Sorry for the constant moaning Sad
