OH MY CHUFFING GOD. STEAMERS!!!!!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 22/02/2013 05:58

I found a brand new steam cleaner at the back of some cupboards today - long story. Anyway I used it to clean the stubborn mouldy grot off the shower grout.

AND OH MY GOD IT'S THE MOST AMAZING THING. Seriously, I have NEVER been able to get that stuff off the grout properly - you know that kind of ingrained yellow mould (ugh) however much bleach and scrubbing I did. This steam cleaner got it off in seconds, no chemicals and only minimal effort on my part.

It has been the single most exciting and satisfying experience of recent years.

You HAVE to try it for yourselves.

I'm gonna do the fridge next.

Please talk to me about it, I'm so evangelical and excited about it. Honestly it's been a revelation.

What brand us yours? I want one! Grin

WannabeWilloughby · 22/02/2013 06:38

Yes yes yes, they are brilliant aren't they!!! Mine does the oven, the glass in the doors and windows, the tiles, laminate floor, work surfaces, fridge, it even got chocolate handprint marks off my cream curtains!!!....officially brilliant. Mines by VAX and has the attachments like the squeegee thing for the windows and the different brushes!!

Grin

Mine's some cheapo from Halfords, we've had it for years but its been hidden in a cupboard for at least 7 years. I've heard that Vax one is the biz Wannabe.

GET one, I promise you you won't be disappointed Grin

Just found this thread..
Please tell me more about this magic.
What do you use it for?

ClaudiaSchiffer · 22/02/2013 10:48

I just used it to get rid of [ashamed now] mould on the grout in our shower. It was AMAZING! But it had all sorts of attachments for cleaning windows, ovens, fabric.

It is truly a WONDER of the modern age. You must try it. Grin

Perfect. In my quest to find the magic 'clean house with minimal effort' button I shall get one.
Will report back when my house is like a show home.
Thank you

middleagedspread · 23/02/2013 16:41

Right Claudia, it's arrived & in use. So far, so good.
I've got all the revolting gunk from the bottom shower doors off, the tiles have come up beautifully but the water marks aren't off the shower doors. Any tips?

Will have a go on the floor tomorrow, don't want to exhaust myself.

insancerre · 23/02/2013 16:49

I want one!
Seriously, I've seen the advert on tv and have raved about it to DH and he said he would buy me one for my birthday and I didn't even hit him.

I think I have turned into my mother. I remember the year my dad bought her a microwave for xmas and I vowed I would NEVER let a man buy me a domestic appliance for a present.
I have failed as a modern woman.

KelleStar · 23/02/2013 17:06

Insancere you are not alone, have also asked for steam mop/cleaner for my birthday ( better than his bad taste in jewellery) have used DH's hand held model that's for cleaning car/motorcycle engine parts on the odd occasion but it's heavy and doesn't have an exciting array of attachments.

My mum once got a smoke alarm and a new frying pan for her birthday, dad spent the night at his mum's, remember being worried that my parents would divorce over it.

Piffpaffpoff · 23/02/2013 17:09

Watermarks on shower doors - Cillit Bang mousse. Spray it on, leave, wipe and rinse. An actual miracle occurs. It's amazing!

Piffpaffpoff · 23/02/2013 17:10

Sorry, that was for middleagedspread. I got carried away on a haze of CillitBand excitement.....

middleagedspread · 23/02/2013 17:34

Yup, it's very sad that we're so excited by domestic appliances!

Cillitbang (thanks Piffpaff) then the steamer is my recipe for tomorrow. Will report on miraculous results...

captainpig · 23/02/2013 20:19

Middleagedspread can you tell me what brand/model you bought. Thanks

lucjam · 23/02/2013 20:46

wannabe can you please link to the model you have, thanks.

GotMyGoat · 23/02/2013 20:50

What's the cheapest, most effective one you can get? I want to use it on my yellow shower.

Squeeee!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 23/02/2013 21:34

This is the one my friend has, he rates it. Ours was 10 quid from Halfords, it is AMAZEBALLS.

Am going to the shops today to see if they have Cillit Bang mousse, my shower doors are a disgrace. We're in Oz tho, so dunno if they have such exciting noxious products here.

We're moving house on Tuesday so am doing a clean before we go. I've lived in this house for 6 years with moudly shower grout. The new owner doesn't know how lucky she is Grin.

Easiest way to keep shower doors and screen clean (and taps too) is to remove all the water after each use. Takes less than a minute, with a squeegee and towel.
We had our new bathroom installed in November 2009; the shower has been used every day (except when we've been away of course) and I have never had to use any kind of cleaning product on the door or the taps in all that time! It still looks like new.

GotMyGoat · 23/02/2013 22:04

80's mum - Thank you for the top tip!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 23/02/2013 22:26

Goodnes 80smum that sounds great, but do your family all clean the taps after use too? There's no WAY my lot would do that.

I have a 'little yellow' (I think that's what it's called) which, until it stopped working, was amazing. Last time I tried to use it, it didn't seem to be heating up properly and was just spraying out hot water rather than steam Sad. It's just sat in the corner since waiting to be taken to the tip. I might have another go at bringing it back to life because my grout could do with a jolly good steam Grin!!

I like the look of the vax one, looks much more compact than the one I have and that's pretty small!

OliviaKnowsBestMumsnet · 24/02/2013 10:12

tis vg on the oven

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 10:15

i have a man in Olivia.

BreadForMyBREADGUN · 24/02/2013 10:24

Is it ok to use on the inside of the oven?

Struffle · 24/02/2013 10:29

Probably a dumb question, but if you are spraying steam on your curtains, for instance, don't you end up with water dripping onto the floor? Or pooling in your oven?

I have just read the reviews on the Amazon link. How does it clean the windows? Surely if you spray steam onto glass, it will condense into water and leave water marks?
