OH MY CHUFFING GOD. STEAMERS!!!!!

I found a brand new steam cleaner at the back of some cupboards today - long story. Anyway I used it to clean the stubborn mouldy grot off the shower grout.

AND OH MY GOD IT'S THE MOST AMAZING THING. Seriously, I have NEVER been able to get that stuff off the grout properly - you know that kind of ingrained yellow mould (ugh) however much bleach and scrubbing I did. This steam cleaner got it off in seconds, no chemicals and only minimal effort on my part.

It has been the single most exciting and satisfying experience of recent years.

You HAVE to try it for yourselves.

I'm gonna do the fridge next.

Please talk to me about it, I'm so evangelical and excited about it. Honestly it's been a revelation.

Can you use it on the floors or do you need a separate steam mop for that?

Bunbaker · 24/02/2013 10:34

I think I will look into getting one myself. I could do with something that works on my glass oven door.

Antidote · 24/02/2013 10:35

Marking my place. About to move house, looking in horror at showers, sofas etc....

BoffinMum · 24/02/2013 11:26

My only regret is that my steam cleaner cannot be used on children of various ages. Grin

DancingInTheMoonlight · 24/02/2013 12:23

I have just ordered one thanks to this thread! I shall report back Grin

BoiledEggonLegs · 24/02/2013 12:30

I hate Mumsnet sometimes. The amount of things I've bought after reading! Mostly good things though Grin

Sorry, tried to link with no success.
Mine is Polti pocket, £52 on Amazon.

So far I've obsessively cleaned the bathroom, including the back of the loo, round the taps & the gunky edge of the tiles. Its sparkling.
I've struggle doing windows, think i need to reread the instructions.
This afternoon's treat is the floors.

I am delighted however; the machine doesn't steam for that long before you have to wait for the pressure to build up again, the attachments seem a bit flimsy & the cord isn't really long enough.

I rather wish I'd spent a bit more & got a bigger one.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 24/02/2013 20:01

To be honest middleagedspread my Halfords one has similar pressure issues and takes time to get it to heat up properly, so there is quite a lot of waiting around. BUT WHEN IT WORKS IT'S NOTHING SHORT OF MIRACULOUS Grin. The cord is very very long though which is good.

Boffinmum, wouldn't it be ACE, all those grimy bits of children would be long gone.

Cutteduppear, it's too small to use on floors, would do your floor grout luvverly if that's an issue. You need a proper steam mop.

So glad there are some other obsessives afficionado's out there.

Oh Claudia, just had a fab idea..I might steam clean my bike!

CatherineHMumsnet · 25/02/2013 09:22

points everyone who's raving about their steam cleaner (or looking to buy one) to our Steam Mop section in reviews. Would love to have more of your comments in here.

oopslateagain · 25/02/2013 10:40

I've just ordered a cheap one from Amazon - this one, my mum's been telling me for ages I should get a steam mop so if this works half as well as you all reckon, I'll be shopping again soon! Grin

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2013 10:51

Anyone know if you can use the indoor Karcher steam thing for removing wallpaper?

babyicebean · 25/02/2013 12:43

Not sure but I used my steam iron to strip wall paper

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2013 12:46

Didn't it drip down your arms? Shock

Juustanothermnetter · 25/02/2013 12:47

I'm waiting on delivery from amazon - bought one on impulse after some wines on Saturday night. So excited!

...... What has happened to me, buying household appliances on a Saturday night and ridiculous excitement awaiting the delivery.

BoiledEggonLegs · 25/02/2013 14:00

I got that cheap one from Amazon, was going to get the Vax one but it had quite a few negative reviews Sad

Excitedly awaiting delivery Grin

I have the x5. LOve it love it. However, I've only had it out 3 times in three months because once I start with it I can't stop.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 01/03/2013 09:10

Mine arrived yesterday and it's currently plugged in, heating up. The power cord isn't long enough to reach my bathroom tiles (main reason for buying it is to clean up the grout) so I'll have to hunt for an extension lead.

cece · 01/03/2013 09:20

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. Fab, fab, fab on floors and tiles. Great on oven, loo, sinks etc. Not got the hang of the window attachment yet and will reread the upholstery cleaning bit as it didn't work as well as I hoped. Off to redo my kitchen floor in a mo.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 01/03/2013 09:29

Hmm, have given up already. Managed to go around one tile in the bathroom but the cord won't let me do any more so will have to wait until I find an extension lead.

I'm wondering whether I should have gone for a slightly more expensive one now Blush
