oven racks - dishwasher them first, it softens the baked on grime, then need a bit of elbow grease (and wire wool) but alot easier than without dishwashering.

check the oven cleaning man has insurance. Fake oven cleaning man broke my oven. Ran out of the house. A week before Christmas. First on my own. I sobbed and sobbed. Thankfully my wonderful mother and John Lewis made sure I had another new oven for Christmas.

Never found the fake oven man to sue him.

I use my oven almost daily but I have a sheet of tin foil in the bottom which catches any spills. I replace it every other week or so and the oven floor never really gets dirty. If you have a fan oven use a baking tray covered in foil otherwise the foil just wafts around in the bottom of the oven.I use roasting bags for joints so no fatty splash back. A quick wipe with Jif sorts the door and racks out.

Our oven man is called Ray Moon, and I love him! He makes my oven look like new.

SilentMammoth · 05/01/2013 22:00

I solved this by buying new oven.

Sorted.

Wow! I didn't know there was an oven man who would come and clean your oven for you, that's like having a fairy godmother. Thank you for this information, I'm going to get him, our oven's a state. It's hard enough keeping house clean and tidy, without doing extras like the oven. Once he's been once I'll keep it lovely and clean I promise Smile

Less than 24 hours till the oven man comes.........very excited, it's like a second Christmas!!

Bacon take a 'before' picture. Grin

Sorry to hijack, but I'm another one considering this. Do these oven-cleaning fairy godmothers also do hobs and extractor fans? Our fan/hood looks like a bee hive made from grease, if that makes any sense.

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2013 20:07

I think they do Creme. We have a ceramic hob but I'm sure when I rang he asked me if it was just the oven.

CremeEggThief · 06/01/2013 20:32

Thanks Sparkling. I've lived here for 3 years and I honestly had no idea you could, or indeed should, clean that area until I recently saw someone mention it on a thread that wasn't even in GK. Blush

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2013 20:36

I found out my extractor fan metal filter things could go in the dishwasher. i never knew. Grin

CremeEggThief · 06/01/2013 22:42

Aha! That's the term I was looking for! I should definitely give that a go. Thanks again :).

oven update?

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2013 20:41

Coo-ee Bacon how's the oven?

BaconAndAvocado · 07/01/2013 20:56

Greetings! Weeeeell......

I am ecstatically happy with my brand spanking new looking inside of my oven.

But.....the window on the oven door just isn't as sparklingly clear as I thought it would be!

I got the impression it would be like a clean window, completely transparent but there's still a mild cloudiness to it, which I didn't notice until later.

I know I sound like a spoilt brat but I can't help feeling a tad let down Hmm

Having said that, I know full well I wouldn't have been able to do anywhere near as good a job!
