Asking people to take their shoes off

So then is it considered rude to ask people to slip their shoes off when they enter your house? we have cream carpets and young children that play on the floor. I always take my shoes off if visiting someone else or i ask if they want me to.

I would be horrified if my DC started to tell visitors to remove shoes and that mummy would have to clean floors- I would tell them that being polite to visitors was much more important than a floor!

So rude to ask people to take shoes off! Most visiting children take them off before going upstairs, probably because my DC do, more for comfort than anything else.

I want people to feel comfortable in my home. and it's so tiny it takes 2 minutes to mop
