Ok so not the wittiest of titles but this month we have the Olympics, holidays, return of football season and heading into the new school year. It's going to be a busy one...

Firstly thanks to Blue and Ellie who kept us on track last month! Thanks

Right, most of you should know how this works. It's a three pronged attack.
Phase one: The babysteps master these and you will be working like clockwork.
Phase two: Adding in Decluttering this will help you keep on top of the amount of stuff contributing to CHAOS.
Phase three: Missions Targeted activities to keep the chaos at bay and starting the deep cleaning.

The golden duster of Flying is stage 4: deep cleaning. This is for most, unrealistic and should only be considered once you have completely decluttered. PA might achieve this simply by virtue of some extreme life decluttering. Although I probably won't recommend her method.

Now for those of you who are completely lost, lets rewind a bit.
CHAOS: Can't have anyone over syndrome. Yep you know that state where you are embarrassed to have play dates fucking hate that phrase or people pop in unexpectedly.
The fly lady approach works by breaking the house down into tiny activities which you do repeatedly yep sounds bad written like that but bare with me and then build up into a routine that becomes habit and you stop thinking about it no really, you do.

Clearer? Yeah ok. I have probably lost you but there is loads of support and help on this thread. If you are confused then ask. However, as this thread starts on the 1st on August I refuse to post the first babystep until later today.

This thread comes with a warning: For those of you who have not yet encountered my leadership of the thread. Be afraid, very afraid aware that I have a rather unorthodox approach and that things can get a tad unpredictable. Starting with a namechange. So who?s on board this month?

Oh and spot markers can help themselves to a magic eraser and ensure there are no marks on the thread for the start of the month. Let?s start as we mean to go on

Morning everyone. Am feeling much better today. I think the illness was lost somewhere around the third glass of wine last night. We had a lovely evening, starting with drinks at a friend's house and ending with a concert and fireworks. MIL babysat for the boys, so no running around after small children either! It's the first year I've been to that event without missing huge chunks of the conversation as I take the DC off to see the funfair/playground or just to run around.

Have walked the dog already this morning. What a beautiful, sunny day. It was good to be out so early.

Today's plans involve very little flying. We have a friend staying, so we will probably go on an extended walk, taking at least one, and possibly two, dogs with us.

MC - I have been thinking about you. I hope the issue can be resolved. So sorry you have been so upset by it.

Bitchy -did the 'no daytime nap' policy pay off?

Engel - well done on all that decluttering. Enjoy the day at the caravan.

ChitChat - your party sounds wonderful! Sorry you burnt your hand though - I hope it heals quickly (aloe vera is very good for burns. You can buy the gel from a chemist or use the sap from the plant if you have one. My Mum was treated with aloe vera in hospital after an operation). Wonderful that you managed a trip to the Olympic Stadium too. What an incredibly busy weekend!

PMPY - good luck with home bleugh and car emptying. Don't forget to take time out for you, if you can.

Thanks, Blue

Engelsemama · 05/08/2012 08:47

Morning pmpy Smile

Just weighed myself and have lost 0.6kg. Add to that the 0.7kg I?d lost when I weighed myself on Thurs and that?s 1.3kg in a week!!!!!!! Smile Smile Smile Smile

Am still not showing as having lost any weight though as I was 66kg when I started MFP and then managed to pile on 2.3kg. Blush Now 66.9kg so still a little way to go before I get back to my starting weight and then can start getting weight off for real. Really want to be below 65kg for a start and then aim for pre-pg weight (which may take some time!)

Does this mean I can stuff my face today with all the yummy treats that MIL offers? Shred is definitely paying off, hope I can keep it up. Woo-hoo!!!! (I?m in a good mood, can you tell?)

ChitchatAtHome · 05/08/2012 09:25

Good morning everyone!

DSs woke way too early for having been so tired yesterday - 7 am. I know, I know, that's not early for most DC but mine don't tend to wake up by themselves until 7.30 - 8.00 am normally and when tired will sleep in until 8.30 - 9.00 so I had been looking forward to a sleep in!!

Bitchy - Hiya! thanks for running this month.

PMPY - agricultural shows can be fun! Glad you had a nice day. Hope you don't feel too tired for the rest of the day with that interrupted sleep.

Blue - thanks for the Brew. Hope the rain holds off for your gardening day.

Toffee - wine is a marvelous medicine, isn't it??!! Kills off all the germs! Grin The silly thing is that I KNOW that aloe is brilliant, as is lavender essential oil (usually ice, then treat with aloe, and then use both aloe and lavender on the burn for a few days) - but I don't have any!!!! So cross with myself, kept meaning to get some and didn't get around to it. The burn is a lot better, the blisters are in the webbing between thumb and finger, and on the side of the finger (also managed to put 5 burn marks onto the counter top!!) There are blisters, but the skin over them is quite thick and they're not too puffy so aren't really bothering me at the moment, but probably will be quite painful when they eventually pop.

Engels - well done on the weight loss. Did you find 'shred' hard to start? I've been thinking about doing it but have been a bit slack about doing anything about it.

Tada:
2 loads of (unexpected) laundry washed
1 load of (unexpected) laundry dried
Dishwasher emptied
Dishwasher reloaded and started
2 dozen muffin sized carrot cakes made and cooling down
DSs fed
DH fed and degrumped with coffee (feeling as tired as me and didn't get a sleep in either!)
I'm fed and about to go and drink my Brew

Skiving off church this morning, think the DSs need some nice play time, and some time with DS2's new Octopod (bit bizarre at the moment as some Lego Star Wars droids are attacking the Octopod!!!) DH is off to represent the family and to get some alone time

elliepac · 05/08/2012 10:26

Morning all! Beautiful morning here. Minimal flying done yesterday. I'd like to say it was because i was all loved up, DH having moved back in and all but in reality I spent the best part of the day glued to the OlympicsGrin.

Today i have a small list:-

Washing started
putting away
Sunday Lunch prepped
general tidy
Park with dc's
Watch some more Olympics, particularly the tennis.

Have a good day everyone!

elliepac · 05/08/2012 10:28

Meant to say well done engels on the weight loss.Smile. I must say MFP is really working for me. 1st 5 lb lost and counting and I only put back on 2 lb on holiday. I think the thing with MFP is that I am conscious of everything I put in my mouth and even on holiday when I ate crap at lunch, I didn't eat crap at dinner iyswim.

NickNacks · 05/08/2012 10:53

Ergh hangover yuk :(

No flying today sorry.

elliepac · 05/08/2012 11:34

Oh dear nicknacks Grin

BitchyDragons · 05/08/2012 12:14

Hope you had a nice time to get the hangover nicknacks.

I slept. I feel like rubbish. to be expected i guess but disappointly I spent ages yestereday sorting stuff onto the bed ready for dealing with. And last night it just got dumped back onto the floor :( So that was a bit of a wasted effort. Also was going to do stuff with ds today and have slept through the first half of it. And had a bad case of cba to move. Blush

hope you are all enjoying the olympics. Minimum flying today for most. bbl with links.

BlueEyeshadow · 05/08/2012 14:38

Engels and Ellie - yay to the weightloss! I've lost 1.2 lbs this week and managed to cook and eat a roast dinner without stuffing myself silly... :)

elliepac · 05/08/2012 14:49

Me too blue. Smile Ended up going out for lunch and only had 1 of the 2 massive yorkshire puddings and 2 of the huge roast potatoes and swerved dessert although it was touch and go for a whileGrin.

Now settling down to watch the tennis although have managed to do some washing!

Engelsemama · 05/08/2012 15:59

Back from a lazy day.

chitchat I didn?t find Shred hard to start with. I only started ?feeling? it when I had done it for 3 days in a row. My biggest problem though is keeping going. Since I got it at the end of June I?ve been doing it for 2 days and then having a rest day which lasted a week or two! Have done it for 6 days on the trot now so think it?s finally starting to help. I was being good at getting my fitness back up by running 2-3 times a week with a friend from Jan ? May (we did a 10k race) but since the race have only been out once or twice, prob because she started training for another event without me (long distance walking). Finding it easier to stay motivated now ? tell myself ?it?s only 20 minutes?.

This morning I did shred at 8am while DH and DS were still asleep (DH didn?t wake up until I hit the shower!). felt good heading out for the day having already done my exercise!

My biggest problem on food is the evenings. If I?m below my calorie level then I ?reward? myself by having a treat, which turns into 2 treats, then 3, and before you know it I?ve had a beer or a glass of wine and a whole big bag of crisps/popcorn/yummy things.

I must work on my willpower!

ellie I put on my 2.3kg while on holiday, well done for only 2lb! The summer hols are usually bad for me putting on weight as I?m at home for 7 weeks and sometimes I even feel a bit bored after the pressure of term-time, so I eat.

But you?re making me hungry by talking about roast dinner. We are having soup tonight Sad

I?m glued to Olympic tennis as well Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 05/08/2012 16:42

That's great that DH has moved back in, Ellie. I really hope it works out for you both.

Engels - well done on your weight loss. The lazy day sounds good.

Chitchat - I didn't know lavender oil was also good for burns. I must remember that. I hope the burn heals quickly. The other thing you can do is get special burn plasters from the chemist.

Nicknacks - oh dear, sorry. It's such an awful feeling isn't it? Last time I had one it was Coca Cola and a fried breakfast, plus paracetamol, that got me through it, but hopefully you will be feeling better by now anyway.

Bitchy - Shock at the giant woodlouse!

Blue - congrats on your weight loss also.

We have had a lovely, companiable day, with a long walk on the Downs with my friend, my boys and the dog. However, whilst we were there, the Border Collie that DS sometimes walks appeared and attacked our Border Terrier Sad. It was really scary for a moment until her owner managed to get her onto a lead and our dog hid behind my legs. The BC wasn't socialised with other dogs as a puppy, so tends to attack them and I know not all BCs would do that, but I watched her whilst we were chatting with her owner and she was buzzing with activity all the time. I looked at her and realised that I just can't have a dog like that in our tiny house. We have been discussing the BC issue with DS1 for several weeks now and trying to get him to accept that another dog might be more suitable for our family, but he says that if he can't have a BC he won't have a dog at all.

DS1 is now utterly downcast. Maybe eventually he will realise that it's better to have a dog rather than no dog at all, but he does tend to be very inflexible in his thinking, so this may take some time.

Anyway, I have waved off my friend and am now having a bit of time to myself before dinnertime.

Flying done today: nothing!

elliepac · 05/08/2012 16:51

engels I am completely the opposite. During my holidays (lots of as am a teacher) i feel more able to control what I am eating. I suspect it's because i have the energy to cook proper meals etc. during term time often find myself eating crap plus when stressed I resort to cakeGrin. So holidays equals no stress equals no cakeGrin.

castlelough · 05/08/2012 20:02

Engels I am more like you than like Ellie when it comes to the school holidays. I find the routine during term time helps keep md on track. I'm a bit all over the place with mealtimes at the moment. Well done to both of you on your weight loss. Also Blue well done! Hoping to put a number after my name by the end of August! :-)

Bitchy I hope you get a good sleep tonight. By the way, I meant to say congrats on helping your ds achieve his goals :-)

PA Hope things get a bit easier in Cambodia for you.

Chitchat It sounds like you are having a lovely weekend despite the early rising dcs...

Toffee Glad you are feeling better. About the border collie, it is better to realise now rather than later on that it is an unsuitable dog for your lifestyle. Hopefully your ds will come round soon.

Waves to everyone else, am on mobile so tricky to check back in the thread. Hope everyone is fluttering/renewing their spirits?

My parents are coming to stay tomorrow so....

To do this evening:

Iron bedlinen (only for them!)
Dress guest bed and our bed
Sort through a pile of clothes and decide which to put into the charity bag (hate this job... Blush
Put away clothes from dryer and run another load
Home blessing
Knitting project
Declutter interiors magazines - 15 minutes
Ring my parents
BB routine

Gosh I had better get cracking!
Enjoy your evenings everyone!

NickNacks · 05/08/2012 21:31

Well feeling much better now thanks :)

Hope you've all had lovely Sundays :)

Tomorrow's list

Bake a cake for mindee
Hoover downstairs
Reboot laundry
Plan activities for the week
Declutter understairs cupboard
Tidy our bedroom
S and s
Tidy sitting room
Dust sitting room
check windows for leakage

ToffeeWhirl · 05/08/2012 21:42

Castle - you are quite right about the dog. However, DS1 is nothing if not determined. He has now set up a thread on a Border Collie website and is asking for advice on how to persuade us. So far, the advice includes nagging us every day, waving adverts for puppies in our faces every day and (more favourably) proving to us how responsible he is by looking after the holiday dog and doing chores. I like that one Grin.

Nicknacks - glad you are over the hangover now.

Am exhausted so off to bed early tonight.

pushmepullyou · 05/08/2012 22:43

Ta Da (very proud Grin )
Finish deluttering entrance hall
House bleurgh
Clean out car
Wash car
Mow lawn
Garden centre
Change beds
Make delicious stew - and also Yorkshire puddings, yum Grin
Meal plan
Online shop
Finances
Go to tip
Feed mum's cat

To do
Finish wine
Go to bed

Not sure I can manage a full set of personals tonight, but very impressed by everyone's weight loss. I did very well earlier in the year and got back witin a pound of my wedding weight, but have been rubbish ever since and am rapidly approaching my 'alarm' weight. Am going to try to have a much better week this week!

I really am going to have to go to bed, so I'll see you all in the morning

ChitchatAtHome · 05/08/2012 22:49

Ellie - The Olympics is addictive, isn?t it??!! So glad it?s on school holidays and DH has taken some time off for it.

NickNacks - glad you felt better by the end of the day

Bitchy - That is annoying, isn?t it?! Awfully tempting to just sleep on the floor! Grin

Engels - sounds as though you were fairly fit to start with before you began Shred, I?m not at all so if I started it I suspect I would be a lot more sore than you are!

Toffee - Hmm, nagging everyday... you?re in for fun! Hmm

Castle - hope you managed to get everything done in time for the parents? arrival.

PMPY - what a busy day, well done!

Quiet morning with the DSs. DS2 went for a pub lunch with DH. DS1 pushed it once too many times and didn?t get to go ? admitted later on that he didn?t believe me that he wouldn?t be allowed to go, so glad I stood firm on it. After the first session of ?woe is me? cies he calmed down and when DS2 and DH got back we set the bouncy castle back up and they had some fun on there, then we spent time outside being silly.

Spent the evening flicking through the different events on tv. Now just relaxing.

Tada list:
3 loads of wash
DS1?s bed remade
Carrot cupcakes made ? and most of them given away as cricket was cancelled (who needs 2 dozen cakes in the house???!!!)
Put the furniture back after the party

Flyingwithoutwings · 05/08/2012 23:16

Oh dear, oh dear Sad
I hang my head in shame Sad
I fell off the flying wagon big time Sad

But I'm hesitantly back Grin

Update on life:
I've made "going to the gym" my habit over the last few months. I have a significant birthday in December and really need to lose 3 stone a bit of chub.

Anyway, it's time to Fly again.

I'm Queen of the naughty corner... It's been about 2 months since I last flew Blush

I need to declutter. We have planning permission (yay) for an extension which means we will have 3 bedrooms instead of 2 (no mean feat in a small bungalow - took a lot of imagination!) Grin

But I need to declutter our bedroom and lounge and then pack my precious ornaments up for storage as this is going to get messy.

Oh, and I'm going on a Sun holiday in September!! Grin

Flyingwithoutwings · 05/08/2012 23:18

Oh, I forgot: big waves to all, those I don't recognise and those I do Grin

May I return to the naughty corner fold?

Trazzletoes · 05/08/2012 23:40

Hello! Am back from my travels - haven't read through all the most recent posts am afraid, but hope you are all ok.

Does anyone know how my house has got 5x messier in 3 days with only cats living in it? It's killing me at the moment it's so dirty.

However, tomorrow I MUST finish the last Photobook as its the order deadline. Plus we're off for a picnic with DS's friends. Also need to remind DH to sort out a wrongly issued parking ticket (another deadline!). Then hopefully I can start (again) with cleaning or exercise tomorrow night.

BitchyDragons · 05/08/2012 23:50

castlelough · 06/08/2012 00:29

Hello flying!
I was wondering where you had gotten to!
I was at Westlife in June and was thinking about you!
Sounds like you have lots of fun plans ahead, and yes, an extension is a great reason to get decluttering and fluttering again!
Welcome back :-)

castlelough · 06/08/2012 00:42

Toffee Wow! Your ds is certainly resourceful!!!
Maybe an older border collie would be less energetic.
Our neighbours have one and he is a lunatic, but dh had one until a few years ago. She was 11 or 12 and very calm, but a bit snappy oh I don't know how to advise as I am generally not very sensible about these matters, and would prob get the border collie and cope with it afterwards, but that isn't much help to you! Maybe something will happen in the meanwhile, like another more suitable dog that desperately needs a home and ds falls for it? Fingers crossed!
We are still renting so I don't want to get a dog yet, also there is no way of keeping the dog safely enclosed here ( garden has post and rail fencing...) but am dying to have a dog (am 33 and still dogless - tell your ds he is a lucky boy!) I'd love an Irish Wolfhound (yes, you see, no common sense here...... Blush but a Golden retriever would be nice too... :-)
