Fledgling Flyers Olympic August thread.

Ok so not the wittiest of titles but this month we have the Olympics, holidays, return of football season and heading into the new school year. It's going to be a busy one...

Firstly thanks to Blue and Ellie who kept us on track last month! Thanks

Right, most of you should know how this works. It's a three pronged attack.
Phase one: The babysteps master these and you will be working like clockwork.
Phase two: Adding in Decluttering this will help you keep on top of the amount of stuff contributing to CHAOS.
Phase three: Missions Targeted activities to keep the chaos at bay and starting the deep cleaning.

The golden duster of Flying is stage 4: deep cleaning. This is for most, unrealistic and should only be considered once you have completely decluttered. PA might achieve this simply by virtue of some extreme life decluttering. Although I probably won't recommend her method.

Now for those of you who are completely lost, lets rewind a bit.
CHAOS: Can't have anyone over syndrome. Yep you know that state where you are embarrassed to have play dates fucking hate that phrase or people pop in unexpectedly.
The fly lady approach works by breaking the house down into tiny activities which you do repeatedly yep sounds bad written like that but bare with me and then build up into a routine that becomes habit and you stop thinking about it no really, you do.

Clearer? Yeah ok. I have probably lost you but there is loads of support and help on this thread. If you are confused then ask. However, as this thread starts on the 1st on August I refuse to post the first babystep until later today.

This thread comes with a warning: For those of you who have not yet encountered my leadership of the thread. Be afraid, very afraid aware that I have a rather unorthodox approach and that things can get a tad unpredictable. Starting with a namechange. So who?s on board this month?

Oh and spot markers can help themselves to a magic eraser and ensure there are no marks on the thread for the start of the month. Let?s start as we mean to go on

As expected, I collapsed into bed early last night, leaving DH to deal with bedtimes. Wide awake now. Throat feels like sandpaper, but am not as achey overall.

PA - I hope you are writing this all down in a journal, so you don't forget anything! Your trip sounds hair-raising, but I'm glad you got what you needed in the end. What is the stationery school stuff you are doing?

In answer to your question: no, I'm not working with DS1 through the holidays (I wanted him to have a complete break from schoolwork), but I'm doing preparation for the work myself. We are going to do a four-day week, with the fifth day left for trips/projects/pottering, etc. My plan is that he'll do English and Maths for half an hour a day, plus Science three days a week and everything else once a week and/or as and when we can fit it in. You are going to be a project all to yourself! I have your first newsletter printed out and we are going to use this as a springboard to cover geography, history, etc. etc. I particularly want him to understand the reason you are there and the level of poverty and need that exists in other countries, as he lives in a privileged Western bubble at the moment and has no concept of how other people suffer. It would be brilliant if you sent me hints for him to think about and look up and will make it much more interesting for him, but there's no rush as he won't start home ed until the first week of September. Thank you.

Flying - am also Grin at your fanjo comment.

Castle - what is a wardrobe planner? Am Shock that there is a whole new level of organisation that I hadn't been aware of!

Wisteria - my ironing mountain continues to grow too Sad.

NickNacks - oh dear, hope your suspicions about your client prove unfounded.

Bitchy - thanks for the links.

Am hoping for a relatively quiet day today. The cleaner is here at midday, so I need to spend the morning decluttering surfaces so that she has something to clean. Then I want to spend more time tackling our bedroom (spent an hour decluttering and tidying up yesterday and it looks better already Grin).

Hope you all have a good day.

elliepac · 09/08/2012 07:54

Morning all! I bugger off for 2 days and I just can't keep up with all the chatting flyingGrin.

Car failed it's MOT which was no great surprise although to be fair nothing too major/expensive bar tyres. Putting it back in for a re-test today. Today's list consists of not much. Have got to go and drop car off at garage and then dc's and I are heading off to a local nature reserve with a picnic and some friendsSmile. Should be lovely. Dd ended up sleeping at BF's house last night (she has a similar aged Dd) and it is very quiet without her although it has been lovely to have some quality time with DS.

I have read through all your posts but I can't remember muchBlush.

mc i am one of the yorkshire contingent. Well not yorkshire exactly but am in North Lincolnshire so near as dammit.

Better go and boil some eggs for picnic!

elliepac · 09/08/2012 07:55

Oh and special sympathy to flying's fanjoGrin. That did make me Smile.

elliepac · 09/08/2012 07:57

And witchy don't you be getting all jealous of holler's namechanging now. I shall be very proud if you can make it to the end of the month without doing soGrin.

elliepac · 09/08/2012 07:58

Oh fuck, you're bitchy again. Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 09/08/2012 08:08

DS1 has failed miserably as a dog owner this morning. Poor dog was scratching pitifully at his door by 7am and whimpering. I took her out for her walk and she was desperate - good for her for hanging on, actually. Came back to find DS1 still sleeping peacefully in his bed. And he says he can look after a Border Collie Hmm.

So far:

Typed up more lessons for Science home ed
Walked dog
Arranged meet-up with DS1's English tutor to discuss curriculum and work plan from September

Am going to drink some honey and lemon and see if that helps. Feel as if I have a lump in my throat, which must mean it's swollen, I suppose .

Ellie - you sound happy Smile. I hope everything's going well with you and DH. Sorry about the car MOT. Hope you have a good day out with DC.

elliepac · 09/08/2012 08:20

. hope the honey and lemon worksSmile. I am quite happy this morning. Things are going ok with DH, slowly slowly but feeling quite positive at the mo!

ToffeeWhirl · 09/08/2012 08:48

That's great news, ellie Smile.

BitchyDragons · 09/08/2012 08:58

Urgh do not want to be awake this morning. Last night was a bit too late. Although 7hrs sleep has ben had i could have slept for hours more. Must move 30mins to get car emptied and to garage. Not quite as easy as it sounds as I skipped the car focus on fri Blush

Good new Ellie
Hope youe feel bit better quickly Toffee
Pa Wow. Just wow. It is a whole different world for you right now isn't it. and i don't envy you one bit

Morning! Sorry I never made it back last night I had a friend come round to watch a DVD Smile however I did get my whole list done! Including washing the kitchen floor and putting DD clothes in the loft which I had been putting off for the last week!

To do:
Clean bathroom
Catch up with friend and her DD after work
Dogs and mindees to park
Mindees to library
Hang my new cuckoo clock Grin
Put bedding in DD drawer
Routines
Today's mission- when I see what it is!

BBL!

CarpeJugulum · 09/08/2012 09:45

Still haven't caught up with things here Blush

DBIL left about an hour ago and I've only just got DS settled down - he's really going to miss him (as am I coz he's a lovely bloke who does a mean filled roll Grin ).

My list is huge, but can be summarised as "get house back to normal" - and may not work today as after tears and screaming, I'm a bit knackered. So one thing at a time...

Oh, and my washing machine looks like it's on the way out. Never one thing but another! Hmm

Makingchanges · 09/08/2012 09:48

Morning all

Sorry I didn't return yesterday, I had a few gins and ended up a little drunk, anyway I'm back...not quite raring to go but i'll get there.

So yesterday was a day of little flying but did take DD to Meadowhall and watch Ice Age 4, had lunch out and got a few other bits and bobs. Also did Karate too so a good day really.

Today I have to pack as we are off to Lincolnshire to the caravan for the weekend from this evening as the weather focrecast is for lovely weather and DH still can't play cricket. Wink

To do list

  • 2 loads of washing minimum
  • update ipod with music for DD
  • find chargers for ipod/ipad/kindle etc
  • Library to take back books
  • Shops for weekend supplies
  • Hoover throughout downstairs.
  • Find a place for overflowing clothes (Too many clothes and not enough storage - I need a major clothing declutter)

PA Tuesday sounds like an adventure. I'm glad its all sorted for you.
Toffee hope you are feeling better soon

Right sausage sandwich and a cuppa to wake me up before I get started I think Grin

NickNacks · 09/08/2012 09:50

Just swinging by to say an taking mindees to outdoor splash park for fun and picnic today so please wish me good weather!

Only working until 3pm so will post a small lust then and see how I get on.

Have great days!

NickNacks · 09/08/2012 09:51

Meant to say a small list but a small lust at 3pm would be great :)

ChitchatAtHome · 09/08/2012 12:11

Dropping by for a quick list dump:

3 baskets of ironing
Clear out spare room Hmm
Set up single bed in spare room (oh my friend is in for a treat, it's a racing car bed!!! Grin)
Shopping for food basics
Entertain 2 DSs
Collapse into a heap

PositiveAttitude · 09/08/2012 15:18

Grin at NickNacks having a lust at 3pm!! Grin

Just been out for a lovely family meal in a nice place we have found. We said we would be treating ourselves sometimes to meals out, then on the way home I get a phone call asking us to go out with work colleagues tomorrow night, to meet them properly. Eeeek Not sure our finances are up to it, but I could ahrdly say no, could I? Blush DH now slightly panicking and saying we should not have gone out tonight. Oh my crystal ball forgot to tell me that we would be asked out tomorrow.......!!!!

Fruitful day here... well, as much as this heat allows. 5 minutes work and 15 60 minutes collapse is the routine!

Hand washed clothes
Cleaned all downstairs floors
Cleaned verandah flooring, too
Dusted lounge tops

Oh dear, that looks pathetic, doesn't it? Blush In my defense it is HOT HOT HOT. Dead weird. It can be blue sky and really hot, but the humidity is so off the scale that it "rains" with no clouds!! Confused

Off to bed now. Have a good evening everyone (oh and afternoon!)

BitchyDragons · 09/08/2012 15:27

To do list:
Empty car out
Take car to garage
fall asleep for a delicious 5hrs
Hot spot lounge
tidy dining room table
tackle my room. try not to lose faith and drown under the chaos

Today I am avoiding coffee and caffine. Must get up and get moving though as i will never sleep later if I don't.

bbl.

laurenamium · 09/08/2012 16:25

pa I am impressed that you are getting anything done in those conditions!!

nicknacks Grin at your lusting at 3pm!

I would love to stay in a racecar bed chitchat! I think I would have fantastic dreams in that type of bed!!

Waves to bitchy and others I have missed!

NickNacks · 09/08/2012 17:44

Ok so I found my 3pm lust....

Have just admitted on another thread my crush on Andy Murray Brad Pitt. Blush

Tonight I'm going to tackle a paperwork mountain. DH is working late so in going to catch up on the soaps, send the dc up to watch a DVD in my bed (bad mother) and spread the papers all over the sitting room floor whilst drinking tea and eating Jaffa cakes.

laurenamium · 09/08/2012 19:42

nicknacks you are making me guilty for lying on a sofa like a vegetable when I should probably be doing some form of paperwork Blush I'll do it tomorrow...maybe!

Ta da:
Cleaned bathroom
Washed all doors and door frames
Routines
Decluttered my room for 15 minutes
Hung the cuckoo clock
DD and mindees to library
An afternoon painting boxes in the garden
Walked dogs
Washed up and shined sink
Cleaned kitchen tops down

I still need to put out the front room hotspot but then other than that I would say the house was pretty clean and organised Shock

BBL!

Makingchanges · 09/08/2012 21:12

Evening all from a lovely campsite in Lincolnshire. I didn't get to the library but I did get loads of paints out and myself and dd spent all afternoon listening to music playing full blast whilst I painted some boxes I picked up from hobby craft yesterday and she painted the recycling box contents Hmm to make a robot. It was lovely and dd said she really enjoyed it.

Also cleaned kitchen, did my two loads of washing and packed for everyone.

Have a good end to the week everyone. I may be back to keep up but no flying Grin

laurenamium · 09/08/2012 21:39

mc your day sounds just like mine! Apart from you're now at a campsite while I'm heading for my bed Grin have a lovely time!

Makingchanges · 09/08/2012 22:03

You did much more flying than me though Lauren Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 09/08/2012 22:29

Just back from walking two dogs with two DC Confused. Am not sure how this happened, but we seem to have agreed to dog-sit for a Jack Russell for three days. DS2 is still wide awake, which is why we let him come with us (great excitement from him at being out in the dark). The Jack Russell is a completely different character from the Border Terrier: much more energetic and demanding. Am not sure how this weekend is going to work out. DH is hiding in the bedroom. He says if we get a third dog, he's leaving Wink.

The cleaner worked wonders today, so at least the house is sparkling. She managed to scrub all the limescale off the bathroom taps, which I have never managed to do. They look brand new now.

Throat still burning and sore Sad. Might visit the dr tomorrow.

MC - have a lovely holiday.

Night all.

dizzyday07 · 09/08/2012 22:50

Not much done yesterday and even less today as been out and about with DDBlush

But as she has a friend (and his mum) coming round for coffee/lunch in the morning Shock I'm now panicking looking around as the whole house seems to be in chaos. I think I need to do a couple of 15min blitzs quickly to knock the place into some semblance of tidyness
