None of us enjoy housework, do we? But is there one particular task which you find yourself avoiding for as long as possible until it can no longer be ignored?

For me it's ironing.

Yep. I was looking quite bemusedly (didn't know whether to laugh or cry really) at the mini mountain of clean clothes that have travelled onto the bed in the spare room (aka 'the ironing room' ironic isn't it?) Somewhere along the line the system has broken down.

It's created a sort of clothes waiting room where each item spends its day wondering when it will get chosen to be ironed and immediately worn. In the meantime, they all get to hang about all day with items of clothing they might never otherwise meet: t-shirts mingling with odd socks, shorts hobnobbing with skirts. It's clothing anarchy! Grin

Alas as we are having an actual houseguest next week, the party is going to be officially over today.

What about you? What task do you hate most?

Emptying the dishwasher. Hate it would rather not have a dishwasher

marge2 · 13/07/2012 11:41

Cleaning the shower. I can't rinse the walls unless I am naked in the shower as we just have a 'soaker' head and no hose bit. This means I have to have the door shut and so breathe in the cleaning stuff fumes and get it on my feet. I hate it too as it takes ages to scrub the stupid fiddly rose shaped tiles the previous owner put in.

bradbourne · 13/07/2012 11:43

Sex. Do we have to? Again? Grin

BerthaTheBogBurglar · 13/07/2012 11:48

Tidying. I could manage the cleaning if I didn't have to spend hours picking stuff up and moving it to where it should be, first.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 13/07/2012 11:48

Anything involving bins. Emptying, cleaning, squashing.

I hate bins and have to hold my breath if sorting them out for fear of breathing in "bin germs" :o

Sorry amillionyears it's just a bit of fun. I can see your point though. Best not to read this thread if you think it may make you hate something you previously liked.

I will try to balance my approach by saying I don't mind vacuuming or loading the washing machine or making the beds. Does that help? Grin

I second all the other responses!

Cleaning the floor. It hurts.

GobblersKnob · 13/07/2012 13:07

Tidying.

I actually like cleaning and I am a laundry freak I find it insanely comforting and get very stressed if there is none to do.

But tidying shit away, especially other peoples, really gets my goat.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 13/07/2012 13:10

Cleaning the kitchen/dining room floor. It's massive and made of ridiculous slate flagstone things - all rugged and characterful.

Takes about six bucket changes by the time I get around to it, and I clean it in the full knowledge my hip/back will throb progressively more over subsequent days.

Just got a Vax Floormate, though, which hopefully will lighten the load (although shoving it back and forth also makes my hip throb).

Acumenoop · 13/07/2012 13:15

the bins!

ElmoFan · 13/07/2012 13:21

I'm with you on the Ironing op - I avoid it at all costs Blush

lucytails · 13/07/2012 13:49

Cleaning the oven without a shadow of a doubt. Really hate all the oven cleaning products. The fumes can be so over whealming. Does anybody actually know of any good eco methods for oven cleaning that actually work?

CelticRepublican · 13/07/2012 14:04

I hate ironing.

So I don't do it. Easy! DH's shirts go to the dry cleaners to be ironed. About twice a year I have to iron a dress. That's it. Just don't do it OP!

I also hate hanging out certain bits of washing, shirtsand socks mainly. Sadly I have not found a way I can stop doing that.

marge2 · 13/07/2012 14:12

I hate ironing too, but I was a religious ironer until 6 months or so again when I went back to work FT. Now I am just to tired and have too much else to get done. The only things that get ironed now are DHs shirts and I make him do them....It's amazing how unrumpled we look. I thought we would all look like we'd slept in our clothes..but we don't.

BibbityBobbityBoooo · 13/07/2012 14:18

CelticRepublican I'm with you. After this lot, I am going back to my single girl ways and putting clothes away immediately rather than trying to iron them. I secretly blame my inlaws (mil & sil -both lovely people) who would always iron in front of the tv once a week so all was fresh n lovely for the week. Sadly my DH thought this was the norm - till he met me! lol

lucytails don't know any products sorry. Although yesterday I had an oven cleaning co. over to clean the oven & grill. For 50 pounds (pound symbol not working) all was basically back to brand new. And no fumes. Win! Now i just got to keep it clean until next yr.

Ironing!!!!

I wish I was one of those MNers who 'doesn't iron' but even though I can't stand it, I hate creased clothes more!

violathing · 13/07/2012 14:27

Cleaning the loo after the males in my house have peed on the seat!!! And cleaning the windows got a quote from a window cleaner but he wahted £22 per week? They don't get donr that ofter

Mintyy · 13/07/2012 14:33

Clearing out the fridge, especially the salad and vegetable drawers. I always find disgusting things at the back. Hate it hate it hate it! But I'm the only one in the house who ever bothers to do it.

mrspink27 · 13/07/2012 14:35

Cleaning the shower door... and defrosting the freezer.

annekins · 13/07/2012 14:37

Cleaning the oven is my idea of a nightmare, so much so I'd rather clean a stinky poo stained toilet than clean the oven!! I pay someone else to do it now and have a sheet thing in the bottom to catch the drips which just needs to be washed every week.

Ironing would be second but I don't iron and DH does his own work shirts (he's ex Navy and is VERY particular about creases!)

FreckledLeopard · 13/07/2012 14:38

Loathe cleaning the cat litter tray. Also cannot stand tidying - cleaning house (vacuuming, ironing, laundry etc all fine - but I cannot stand traipsing through the house trying to find homes for stray items).
