What's your absolutely least liked household chore?

None of us enjoy housework, do we? But is there one particular task which you find yourself avoiding for as long as possible until it can no longer be ignored?

For me it's ironing.

Yep. I was looking quite bemusedly (didn't know whether to laugh or cry really) at the mini mountain of clean clothes that have travelled onto the bed in the spare room (aka 'the ironing room' ironic isn't it?) Somewhere along the line the system has broken down.

It's created a sort of clothes waiting room where each item spends its day wondering when it will get chosen to be ironed and immediately worn. In the meantime, they all get to hang about all day with items of clothing they might never otherwise meet: t-shirts mingling with odd socks, shorts hobnobbing with skirts. It's clothing anarchy! Grin

Alas as we are having an actual houseguest next week, the party is going to be officially over today.

What about you? What task do you hate most?

Emptying the dishwasher and hanging up the washing - probably because I feel like I spend my life doing it Hmm

justtryingtodomybest · 13/07/2012 17:14

£22 per week to clean the windows? Do you live in Kew Gardens?!

Mine is definitely cleaning the oven. Very tempted to get someone in to do it.

cybbo · 13/07/2012 17:15

The daily grind of wiping poorly aimed pee from the loo seat, rim and floor

BertieBotts · 13/07/2012 17:18

Washing up, genuinely hate it.

Agree. Don't iron. I actually like ironing but nevr bother to do it because it takes too long. Every now and again I have the urge and get all of the clean but creased clothes and iron them Grin

Ragwort · 13/07/2012 17:20

Agree with Bradbourne Grin.

I absolutely hate hoovering, have bought so many different vacuum cleaners over the years, don't find any of them do a better job (Dyson/Miele/Vax) I would much, much rather iron than hoover.

GnocchiNineDoors · 13/07/2012 17:22

Bins. They just stink. Thankfully DH has no sense of smell so will do these. However he seems to read "do the bins" as 'empty the kitchen bin only and resoloutley ignore the bathroom bin, toilet bin, bedroom bin and living room bin'

GnocchiNineDoors · 13/07/2012 17:23

Oh and I dont iron but do love to vac up with Henry.

TeaTeaLotsOfTea · 13/07/2012 17:24

I hate cleaning the oven.

Its the worst job ever.

I'd rather clear the litter the litter tray I hate it that much.

I want a self cleaning oven Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/07/2012 17:24

Emptying the bin. Makes me want to cry.

AuntyJ · 13/07/2012 17:28

All of it I find it impossible to try and find one thing. If you force me its mopping, my DC's inability to wipe feet as they run in from the garden to nip to the loo is beyond me.
I constantly ask when can we employ a woman who does, because I dont!

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 13/07/2012 17:30

I love ironing and sorting out laundry.
Have an oven cleaning man.
Loathe doing the bathrooms.

cybbo · 13/07/2012 17:31

Ooh ooh who is your oven cleaning man?

My oven keeps setting smoke alarms off

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 13/07/2012 17:39

Ovens2new.
They are brilliant.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 13/07/2012 17:46

I am one of those Mumsnetters that doesn't iron. Not anything. I don't think we look rumpled. I just cant bring myself to do it.

I hate doing the oven, though I have become obsessive over keeping it clean so I don't have to do a big scrub - always put foil in the tray etc. It was last cleaned 2 months ago and it still looks like new.

SrirachaGirl · 13/07/2012 17:52

Unloading the dishwasher; it makes me want to properly shoot myself. Ours is a newish and very naice one but goes on the fritz about once a month necessitating DH climbing inside, unscrewing things and manually picking out several months worth of old soggy grains of rice that have been blocking some crucial element of the mechanics resulting in every item of cutlery and crockery coming out three times dirtier than it was prior to going in. I then have to wash everything by hand which I could have done in the first place. FUCK ME.

Savannahgirl · 13/07/2012 17:55

Dusting Angry

No sooner you've put away the Pledge & duster - down comes the dust again.

Not to mention having to move a whole load of crap off shelves to do it, then put them all back again, knowing it'll look exactly the same in a week's time Grin

SlubberTheBeadBitch · 13/07/2012 18:04

Cleaning the bathrooms with the most hated task being the removal of hair clogs from the shower plug. I hate that job more than almost anything else in the world ever, apart from going to have your teeth scraped by the hygienist and maybe a smear, although those are obv not household tasks.

Nagoo · 13/07/2012 18:08

Gnocchi my dh thinks the kitchen bin is the only one in the house.

I refuse to pick up cat shit unless the dc are in imminent danger. Nor will I pick up dh's crispy socks off the floor. I put clothes away unironed apart from uniform.

Mintyy · 13/07/2012 18:10

Oh cyb, have you still not had an oven cleaning man in?

Mum2Fergus · 13/07/2012 18:20

Dishwasher...load unload load unload load unload...its a perpetual motion aarrgghh!!!

littlefiendsusan · 13/07/2012 18:23

I recommend Lakeland's Oven Mate. No fumes no massive trays needed to soak things in and wiping the dissolved gunk off is,well, so satisfying.

Mintyy · 13/07/2012 18:24

Mum2Fergus - did you know there are some Mumsnetters who are so uber-posh that they have TWO dishwashers so they never have to unload, just empty as they go?

That is how bloomin upmarket it gets on here!!

WentworthMillerMad · 13/07/2012 18:30

Hanging the washing on the pulley, fold and put away. Repeat.
Aaggggghhh.

Pascha · 13/07/2012 18:39

I'll happily (well, willingly at least) clean anything, tidy anything, iron anything but if anyone wants me to hoover they are on to a lost cause. DH has basically accepted its his job because if he doesn't do it, it doesn't get done.

Iwillorderthefood · 13/07/2012 18:40

Tidying really annoying represents all the times everyone ignores my requests to put things away when finished with them. I like ironing which surprises me, but I do it in front of the tv and therefore is less work like.
