Fledglings Fly into July!

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2012 21:28

Welcome to the July 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us throughout June!! Thanks

If your house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All welcome!!

Apologies for starting the thread so late - it took SC lobbing the duster at me to make me remember it's July tomorrow (and I've blatantly cut and pasted her OP too)!

The first baby step is to shine your sink! See here for the Fat Fairy's tutorial...

No mission because it's Sunday. But here's the flight plan for established flyers

Thanks for explaining zone cleaning swan.

Carpe / WhoKnows - I have a sort of feather duster thing that DH acquired as a student - one of his housemates abandoned it. Hmm I can occasionally get the boys to do dusting with it because they play at being Mr Maker and waking up the shapes. "Don't forget the shapes behind the TV..." Grin [evil mother]

swanthingafteranother · 02/07/2012 14:54

I've done loads, but clearly not enough Sad as haven't reached the bedrooms or bathrooms yet. Handbags were truly abysmal, that's my only excuse and led to all sorts of paperwork trails...

However
done
kitchen tidy now
hall almost tidy
I can see light in the playroom
an envelope addressed and stamped

need to do my run or children will be back, and still need to buy bread and washing powder

Carpe playdates are good, have as many as possible when your house is in as many states as possible too, to get people used to it, so then you don't mind when they drop by! I have one friend who I really don't mind how the house looks, as she has seen it all before...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/07/2012 14:55

I've got a very long handled "permanent" one which is great for getting down behind furniture and on top of wardrobes but too long for general surfaces, problem with is the DCs like shoving it in each others faces which is yucky, so I have to keep it out of sight.

swanthingafteranother · 02/07/2012 16:23

done
calendar dates, including chasing up some appts I had forgotten what time..
Friday Night drinks arranged with friend Grin
Run (shortish)
bread, milk and washing powder
picked up ds2
piano practice
wash on

now going to blitz the bathrooms before dd gets back from choir
put new sheets on two beds
put together new hoover
get dd to write postcard to cousin in Germany (we never send anything Blush

try to relax!

Dad coming to supper tonight, so I need to cook too. Hate having guests, but will try to remember he is my Dad not a guest!!!

WitchyBitchy · 02/07/2012 18:51

My day has been wrong all day. I hate it when that happens :(

So ta da is nothing like the to do rip that up and ignore

Ta da
Into town for banking, and shopping.
Into different town for researching replacement computer.
Make homemade pizza ouch I burnt my tongue :(
Make ds' day and let him lose on wii
Sort through ds' bag for tomo.
Put up new training master calendar.

Just going to get changed and head out to training. Have a good evening.

Engelsmeisje · 02/07/2012 18:56

one last post for today...

ta da
buggy upstairs in attice
2nd and 3rd wash drying outside
4th wash on
1st wash folded
washing-up
lasagne for dinner (and leftovers for tomorrow so no cooking)
nursery intake chat
DS in bed
under calorie level on MFP for the first time in about a week (now just have to resist any snacks!)

still to do this evening...
make packing list for holiday

tomorrow...
head to shopping centre and get some little things for DH to open on his birthday (am going to make him a "voucher" for guitar lessons, something he's always wanted to do)
start packing
sort DSs clothes out
attach doorbell and wipe down front door
wash rest of winter coats
hotpots (till untouched Blush )

carpe I find the only way to truly keep my house tidy is if I have frequent (planned) visitors. DHs friends and ffamily have a habit of making unplanned visits so I end up frantically hoovering when I see a car pull into the driveway Grin

kiwi5 · 02/07/2012 19:02

Ta da
Tea made
Cake baked
Photo frame made
Load of washing done, dried and folded
Bag to charity shop
Not gone totally mad with teething daughter on the rampage

Currently contemplating going for a run

Engels, you have had a cracking day. You are an inspiration.

Ellie, hope your Monday has gone as well as Monday's can.

Bitchy, can sympathise, I normally cheat and rewrite my list on those days!

Off to poke nose outside to see if I can face going for a run.

OverflowingMum · 02/07/2012 19:59

evening all
....gosh, you have all been chatting loads today! will attempt to catch up with thread in a bit..
just popping on to say I have had a LOVELY day on school nursery trip with DS2. It was actually so nice to have a whole day out with just him to concentrate on (without other 5 dc ) and he had SUCH a good time. His little face was just a picture of enjoyment and excitement all day Grin
(he was V tired and grumpy by the time we got home but it was worth it!)
Have done minimal FLYing though....but did manage 3.5 mile run, and have eaten much better today and yesterday, so hopefully making headway in the battle of the body clutter!
Right...off to sort kitchen....hope to BBL Grin

CarpeJugulum · 02/07/2012 20:35

Posting as an alternative to working. Blush That and I don't want to watch what DH is watching; however he has done the dishwasher stacking so I can't complain. I just CBA with the effort that work has. The glass of wine in my sticky paw has no influence on this CBA at all. None, whatever! Blush

Have had a good-ish day with food, but still feeling wonky; so think I will make a GP appointment and get them to check blood pressure and maybe iron content - and up the multi vitamins in the meantime.

ellie hope you're coping - have a Wine from me.

swan play dates are good for the tidying - and I'm getting much better as I only had one crate of crap to stuff in my bedroom; and that was actually mainly age-inappropriate toys that DS plays with, so once they'd gone it was a two second job to empty
OFM glad you had a lovely trip; am Shock at the 3.5 mile run. I can do 3.5m though? Wink
Engels in awe at the list!
Bitchy still in awe at you. Not your list, just you Wink
Blue I had a permanent duster too - but the Pledge variety are fab as they are white, so you can see the crap and then just bin it. Very satisfying!
kiwi5 hope you got out for a run - t'is pouring and foggy here, so no inclination to set foot outside even if I was inclined to run.
and huge flaps to WhoKnows, sc, pa, feet, laure, Thistime, scruffy and anyone else I have missed - and there is bound to be a couple of you!

laurenamium · 02/07/2012 21:13

BlueEyeshadow · 02/07/2012 21:51

Glad you had such a lovely day OFM. :)
Hope yours improved, Bitchy

My ta da! list for today:
Swept floors x loads

low effort tea
evening routines.

Now feeling a bit bleugh - might have DS2's cold coming on.

Going to post the links and head off the pooter.

*
Babystep 3 - more shiny sinks and lace-up shoes. But stay out of that Big Tent!
Mission is hotspotting and Tuesday is officially "plan and play day"...

**
Good night.

OP posts:
WitchyBitchy · 03/07/2012 00:09

It wasn't a bad day. it's just I had to rip up my plan for the day and never quite got it sorted after the unplanned misadventure.

Tuesday, planning day. Very appropriate.

To do list:
Up and out
lunch
ds to school
paperwork.
If it stops raining - clean car out (whoknows will understand the issue)
more likely Tackle laundry and my room.
ds from school
cook up cottage pie base as mushrooms likely to go off. Cool and then freeze until needed.

Right that early night thing is a fail again. New alarm has too chances. It will either work or fail. Hopefully it won't scare the living daylights out of me. I don't actually know what it sounds like yet. Hmm

CarpeJugulum · 03/07/2012 06:53

DS up at 4.15am. My turn so went up and played possum for 2 hours. I now have bruises. Sad. What the hell do you do with a toddler who is awake at stupid o'clock?!

Back to update when coffee and brain have kicked in. Well, coffee really!

NickNacks · 03/07/2012 07:30

Oh yuk carpe I feel for you! What on earth is possum? It sounds brutal of you have bruises.

Today's list!

Stay in as got a workman coming
Buy more green goo and fix pram tyres
Weigh day - it will not be good
Do jobs on yesterday's list I didn't get to!
Check online banking
Call judo man
Empty cupboard for repair man
Tidy book corner

CarpeJugulum · 03/07/2012 07:41

Playing possum means behaving like a possum (and other animals). When they're attacked, they drop and play dead - so in my case sleeping!

laurenamium · 03/07/2012 08:04

Morning all, just a list dump!

Shop for essentials/ food
Routines
Walk dog
Shred
10 tonne of paper work Sad
Playgroup this morning
Clean bathroom

That'll do as I'm at work until 6ish BBL!

chuckeyegg · 03/07/2012 08:05

Can I join C.H.A.O.S here Blush I don't know where to start!

WitchyBitchy · 03/07/2012 08:27

Nicknacks have you not see Ice age? Shock not random playing possum is in it No# 4 is in the cinema. I want to go see it. Might have to look into taking ds.

It's really hard carpe we found complete black out blinds, and cbeebies. And toys in front of tv. Emphasis on shhh everyone is asleep we do NOT make noise. But the no of times I found myself doing messy play etc at 6:30am was stupid.

Jump on board Chuckegg Start by shining your kitchen sink the fly lady way Wink Link is at the top/ previous post.

New alarm clock works but motivation to move lacking this morning so still in danger of running late Need an early night tonight. Nothing wrong that a good night's sleep wont cure.

sanguinechompa · 03/07/2012 08:41

Good morning everyone!

A warm welcome to the thread ThistimenextyearRodney, Ellellie (musn't confuse with Elliepac!) and Chuckeyegg

Chuckeyegg and other newcomers. Start by having a look around the Flylady site here, here and here then just jump right in. Depending on what stage you are at (see op) you can start initially by just following the baby-steps. Once those become second nature, start decluttering for 15 mins in each zone (and add in missions) and once decluttered, start detailed cleaning in current zone. Adapt all routines to suit yourself and suggest don't sign up to Big Tent e-mails for fear of being inundated. Don't worry - you don't have to understand the entire system before you start - it will become clear as you go along. Good luck!

Jacqui12 and Mustidyup how are you getting on?

Thanks for links Blue Hope virus short-lived.

Huge waves to everyone else! Haven't caught up with all the natter yet but just popped in to say - day 2 of school holidays - and dieting with dd at home is proving to be more difficult than anticipated. Can't just pop to shops or go out for a walk when I want (well she can be persuaded once or twice a day but not the same). Have also made home-made pizza, pitta breads so far and banana cake is being prepped right now. Also dh is bringing home things like currant buns, salt and vinegar crisps (prized commodity over here) and jelly tots ... So going to have to be rigorously organised but bad case of the Nesbits atm.

Trying to tackle boudoir atm. Too much stuff in there that isn't boudoir-related (which is why I reckon it is continually messy). So have installed temporary book case which looks a bit naff where it is (also have dd's furniture in our boudoir because of bathroom location) but does the job of getting a hundred or so books off the floor and in dust collectors baskets around the bed. This took all of 40 mins so don't know why I didn't do it before now Confused Next step: where do I put sewing materials? (Have given them 'temporary' home twice before now, neither of which have worked out so they are still floating around 1st floor/our bedroom in variety of boxes and cartons and carrier bags...) And yesterday wrote long list of EVERYTHING that I need to do in boudoir so that I can tackle it step-by-step this week and it isn't so overwhelming. Only problem is, there were 42 steps in total Confused

Thinking of you Elliepac

Catch up with thread later over a coffee and a- bun carrot stick and sparkling water.

Honu · 03/07/2012 09:38

MN ate my post on Sunday and I've not been back since.
Weigh in still 0 loss - but, be positive, no gain either and weight had been slowly piling on in previous weeks.

Life quieter here today - a pair of pigeons have been fornicating loudly on the living room chimney for the past couple of days, with every coo of ecstasy echoing down the chimney. With luck they have now gone off to make a nest / lay eggs or whatever the next stage may be.

To do list so long I'd be all day typing - just counted and to-do = 23 items (some v complex like 'prepare drawings for electrician coming tomorrow'), ta-da = morning routine + 2. So no more mn for now - ta-ra.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/07/2012 09:49

Morning all,

Still raining here, that horrible drizzly stuff that swirls under umbrellas . I'm off shopping in a minute to get away from it.

Blue - hope you feel better soon
Carpe - ouch, hope you can get some rest today
Bitchy - I've never seen the Ice Age films either, are they good?

SC - good luck with the boudoir
Honu - arf at the pigeons
Chuckeyegg - welcome to the thread
EllieP - hope you are OK

Waves at NickNacks, Lauren, OFM, Kiwi, Engels, Swan, Feet, PA, Linzer, Nettie, Thistime, Scruffybear, WisteriaWoman, MustTidy, Jacqui and anyone else who is reading.

WitchyBitchy · 03/07/2012 10:00

Very. they are kids films. Ds loves them and the out-takes are funny. The 3rd one was a bit less friendly for very young children but yours will probably love them. Here they are are loved by all age groups. As is kung fu panda. A rare film that actually you didnt mind watching on repeat Grin

Sorry chuckey not had enough coffee first thing. Didnt mean to get you name wrong Blush

Computer problems. Computer claims anti virus is running but there is no evidence for it and I can't get it to open and run so something is up. If I disappear then I will be awaiting some creative financing to sort out a new computer. One that won't look at me like a petulant teenger and then throw a strop just because i asked it to do more then one thing at once. HmmGrin

NickNacks · 03/07/2012 10:24

Sorry not seen Ice Age! DH is always mocking me for my lack of film knowledge and I'm starting to see his point! Blush

WitchyBitchy · 03/07/2012 12:08

Tbh I just assume that people with kids have seen the tyical kiddy type films. I am also lacking in film knowledge but from the grown up side. I have seen very few modern films tbh. Just don't have the time or inclination.

I have just purged the computer of stuff. Back up everything and hoping that in doing so haven't killed the external

CarpeJugulum · 03/07/2012 12:50

Oh fuck.

DS and I out to soft play. DS falls asleep in car on way home for a max of 10 mins. Refused nap.

He's now looking like a zombie as am I and is the crankiest I've ever seen as am I! what the hell am I going to do for the next 6 hours?!
