Fledglings Fly into July!

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2012 21:28

Welcome to the July 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us throughout June!! Thanks

If your house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All welcome!!

Apologies for starting the thread so late - it took SC lobbing the duster at me to make me remember it's July tomorrow (and I've blatantly cut and pasted her OP too)!

The first baby step is to shine your sink! See here for the Fat Fairy's tutorial...

No mission because it's Sunday. But here's the flight plan for established flyers

Floors ellie? As in actual floors that you can see rather then just having to believe they exist? Wow

Fear not there is huge amounts that need doing. I doubt there is ever going to be nothing to do. Plus I have lost my glasses

time for bed i think.

MaggieMcVitie · 15/07/2012 22:59

Just flitting by on my way to bed to admit that no flying has been done for quite a few days Blush

Will be having an early start in the morning to get back on track Grin

BlueEyeshadow · 15/07/2012 23:03

As I'm here now, I'll do tonight's linkies and then lob the sensible lace-up shoes in Ellie's direction...

Today's been interesting - the oven still won't work so will have to call electrician in the morning. Could be expensive. :( But on the plus side, the lack of oven combined with unexpected lack of rain led to a very pleasant barbecue we wouldn't otherwise have thought of! Ate too much, but have played enough on the Wii to balance it out...

Bodyclutter - I've now got some new scales! I knew our old ones were about half a stone heavy, but was never sure how much to deduct. As a result my weight loss looks very impressive on MFP this week, but is only actually a pound or two. Still, am now officially under 11 stone and chuffed to bits.

swan - glad you're back on the carbs! I've never been convinced that completely cutting out any one food group made any sense. Everything in moderation, if you ask me! Grin

WhoKnows - Grin at DH not screaming the place down in children's-hairdresser-with-DVD-players...

Big waves to everyone, especially Angelico and MsOnatopp.

*
Babystep 16 is another indoctrination reading one...

Flight plan: Monday is house bleugh day and we're moving into the bathroom and one other room, in this case the home office. Reading mission, I realise that the Fat Fairy can once again see the area round my computer... [paranoid]
**

So there we are. So long as you're happy to take over, Ellie, I'll leave it in your capable hands. :)

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 15/07/2012 23:26

I'm also laughing at the image of WhoKnows' s DH behaving himself in the children's hairdresser. My DH does actually hate going to the hairdresser - perhaps that's the answer!

Blue - thanks for keeping us on track so far this month.

Off to bed in a min. Night all.

MsOnatopp · 15/07/2012 23:38

I did it! I did my dishes and shined that sink. Phew.

I see a few of you are cleaning out your diets too. Do I have to join that one? I only ate nine Oreos today. I'm good aren't I? Surely? No? Sigh. I need to eat more real food and less snacks/ junk. I don't wanna!

elliepac · 16/07/2012 06:47

I know I was worrying about the holidays last night but this morning I just want them to startGrin. DD has has a full school day today for the first time. Nursery as normal in the morning and then an introductory afternoon in reception. I refuse to believe she is old enough for reception. She is still my baby.

Have a good day everyone!

laurenamium · 16/07/2012 08:01

Just a list dump this morning, I'll be back in the day to catch up properly! My mindee this morning has rang in sick so I'm off after my school run Smile

To do:
Home bleugh
DD to playgroup
Wait in for online food shop
Walk dog
Ring bank about insuring my phone
Gardening!!

BBL!!

WitchyBitchy · 16/07/2012 08:35

MsOn You don't have to join in the the body clutter. Some of us are more serious then others. I am just aiming to reducing the number of snacks/improve the quality of snacks and drink less coffee/more water. Not a lot of change. I am not weighing in. And generals don't post about it. Yesterday's trousers were a nice change. Today I am back in slobby trousers and polo shirt. but it would be nice to be permeantly back in that size. Especially as i hate clothes shopping and there are all these clothes in my wardrobe that would fit.

huh bit more ranty then intended and about to make ds late for school. Must run.

swanthingafteranother · 16/07/2012 08:50

I am feeling slightly better this morning...and think I can tackle some of the things on my list, possibly because FT is coming at 9.30 so I have to tidy up the front room...

I am now officially looking forward to getting away from DH and going on holiday without him Grin He has been tutting tutting over so many things this morning that I need a break, and I need to be accountable to myself for once!!! No doubt my mother and sister will take over from where he's left off but I will need to make a cunning plan to outwit them all Grin

done
ds1 off to Chessington World of Adventure with strict instructions not to buy himself chips Hmm
ds2 and dd off to school 2nd last day Smile
dw salt
washing on
dw on
recycling out

MsOnatopp · 16/07/2012 08:57

Thanks Witchy. I'm actually a very slim person and can't afford to lose weight but I am very unhealthy and a large percent of my minimum daily calorie intake is made up by snacks. I would love to be more healthy but I crave the sugary snacks. Maybe I should get on top of the house before I worry about that.

Ellie - is your DD excited? How lovely/sad for you!

Today I want to
Clean little bathroom
Sweep kitchen floor
Mop kitchen floor
1 load of laundry
Dishes and sink before bed
Go to bed at a reasonable hour

WitchyBitchy · 16/07/2012 09:15

MsOn tbh I am finding just replacing one or two of the snacks is actually allowing me to feel like I have more energy as it's stopping the sugar yo-yo.

Found that need less coffee if make sure get 10hrs sleep with these heavy meds. didn't last night and really suffering for it. Going to sleep til lunch then crack on. it's an insane day with an even earlier start then normal tomo. I have to et my alarm for 3:30am thank fuck it is a one off. 4:30am seemed too early.

MsOnatopp · 16/07/2012 09:26

Witchy Shock that's about the time I got into bed last night!

OverflowingMum · 16/07/2012 11:43

afternoon all
msOnatop sound slike you're doing grear - well done!
bitchy 3.30 am Shock poor you
swan hope FT goes OK and your many other commitments. I sometimes quite like it when DH is away/not home of an evening and it is just me and dc...I have to be in the right frame of mind though, and it doesnt happen very often...
ellie The holidays will I'm sure be a challenge, but I do think that you should make the most of that sense of freedom. One of the things I like when dh isnt here is if I fancy taking them all down to the playground at 8pm at night I can.....if we want to spend a couple of hours in the park after school we can even if dinner ends up late etc.... I cant remember how old are your DC? I am going to try and come up with some non messy wonderful inspiring easy simple impressive cheap craft ideas for dc for the holidays...
we are away the third week, then possibly some of the last ...but that still leaves a lot of time to entertain 6dc with not much money in the rain :LOL
blue hope oven gets fixed...yay for new "slimming" scales!
whoknows thanks for all the links...

right, well....horrah....all DC are well and have been despatched to school, and I have day off work Grin

6 dc up , breakfasted etc
laundry reboot
tidied breakfast stuff
sorted final bits for dd3 and 3 school trip
labeled carrier bag for dd4 to take to school to bring work home in
school run with very over excited dd3 and 4 Hmm
been to wool shop and bought some new wool Grin
rebooted laundr
sorted all school/cubs/dancing/singing etc letters from plastic folders

now need to:
put on DW
sort calendar for next 3 weeks
begin thinking about stuff we may need for holiday Hmm
tidy littlies room
knit Grin
drink tea Grin

ok.....best get on...BBLGrin

OverflowingMum · 16/07/2012 11:43

oooh..its actually still morning LOL Morning all!

swanthingafteranother · 16/07/2012 13:24

OFM I had a very strong desire today to sneak off and buy some haberdashery supplies for the summer...I want to make peg dolls Blush alas don't think dd is in the slightest bit interested. I met a friend on bicycle on way home and said I wanted to buy lace, and she immediately responded, aah, to trim pillowcases? Maybe that is a better idea...pillowcases and petticoats

however
I have done
talked to Family Therapist, who was helpful re: Rules and ASD issues, although I found myself talking about dd most of the time Hmm
errands - bread and two new keys (will have to go back and recut them as they don't work [BAH!]
cleaning lady visit - she has done a week's worth of ironing, and mopped the floors downstairs YAY!, also in her miraculous way she can make kitchen look tidy in twenty minutes
I rescued hall
cleaned and tidied living room
put away ironing
shook out rugs
cleaned out cat litter

had a nice carbs lunch with wholemeal bread, cheese and mackerel...

plan for afternoon
quick tidy of children's rooms
SORT OUT MY BEDROOM
buy new catflap (more walking)/recut keys
children back at 3.20, offer soothing carbs from baker
take ds2 to run in park?
print out plane tickets!!!!
what's for dinner...defrost some chicken to serve with rice and broccoli

WitchyBitchy · 16/07/2012 14:24

Afternoon.

Slept til two. feeling slightly more able to deal with the grab child from school and throw into car approach that is going to be needed today.

ta da
make up a snack box with sandwiches, drink and biscuit for ds to eat in car on way to training
make sure ds' training kit is ok and in car
make sure my training kit is ready to go into car.
eat lunch
set tomo's alarm
consider what to do about tea - MacD's
Consider what is needed for the weekend and tomo.

OverflowingMum · 16/07/2012 16:35

oh lord....all dc back in total foul moods...school trips went well, but dds exhausted....dd4 crying that she feels sick Hmm (please not again....)
and ds bouncing off the ceiling aaaarrrrrgggghhh
I was so full of positive intentions for after school period....and its all gone to pot already....will I ever master the happy , harmonious creative after school time that I dream of????? If anyone has the answer to this PLEASE tell me!

OverflowingMum · 16/07/2012 16:36

swan...maybe soothing carby snacks would have been a good idea actually. Have put dinner on early instead now ....

OverflowingMum · 16/07/2012 16:37

oh...and swan dds love making peg dolls....and I have lots of scraps of material .....I shall now add "peg dolls" to my list of simple non-messy creative summer crafts! Thanks!Wink

swanthingafteranother · 16/07/2012 19:35

OFM My cousin and I used to make historical peg dolls Sad
dd was in a strop after school because I didn't allow her to watch telly till 4.30 Shock and then was very rude about my snack supper "Is this what you call supper? Wait till I tell Dad!" (ouch)
however, fortified by family therapist
I managed to rise above it, and take ds2 for a lovely run, which much improved my mood. Ever since we watched the Olympics 5,000 m (or was it less) ds2 has been obsessed by re-enacting it in miniature, he even pretended the bell was ringing in the final lap Grin I explained that alas we were not Olympic athletes, and unfortunately I could not overtake him at the end...

Ds1 returned much later, sweaty and damp from Chessington, where he had much enjoyed being scared to death.

Done
forced all three children to do chores
made it clear to kids that from now on they had to help me prepare supper and lay table or there would be self service sandwiches only
set new screen boundaries

better go now

Trazzletoes · 16/07/2012 19:38

Hello! I've been fluttering on and off the wagon for a couple of months. Re-booted myself yesterday... DETERMINED to succeed this time. Heeeeeeeelp (she cries, disappearing under Mt Washmore)...

castlelough · 16/07/2012 21:02

Have been quite busy the last week with starting to paint our house, my parents visiting, and then away for a night to celebrate wedding anniversary...
Managed to keep on top of the fluttering so that when we arrived home today the house was tidy and semi-welcoming :)

Now just to tackle the massive Mt.Washmore.....

Question on the decluttering -
I am getting around to sorting through a few boxes of clothes, and a LOT of them are just a size or two too small. Nice clothes, but have been in boxes since I moved house two years ago. So do I give them away? ...or do I hope that I will lose the weight though body clutter has gone by the wayside and wear them again? Part of me doesn't believe I'll ever fit into my size 8-10s again..... Sad - am moving nearer to 14s. Sad And then we are also TTC so it would be a long time before I would wear any of them again...oh I am making up excuses amn't I? Hmm

This evening to do:

*feed the horses
*call into dmil
*tackle long-abandoned knitting project (have 12 squares out of 90 knitted on an Art of Knitting throw I have been hoarding for around 3 years now...it's now or never! Blush
*do a page of control journal
*ignore the fact that it is WHB day Blush
*wash up supper dishes and BBR
*light off by midnight!

Waves to everyone! xxx

elliepac · 16/07/2012 21:12

The Flight PLan is here.

Enjoy!

BlueEyeshadow · 16/07/2012 22:26

Oven fixed - or rather dried out, so no need for electrician. Yay!
