...from top to bottom (or end to end)?

And when was the last time it was like that?

I'd say a couple of times a year here Blush and the last time was about 2 months ago Sad

I just can't have it all looking good at the same time, thanks to the constant mountain or laundry, messy DCs and their friends, and constantly feeding people.

Once a week. Thanks to the lovely cleaner (s).

Jdub · 21/06/2012 15:32

I had a child free/husband free weekend about two months ago, and I spent a clear 12 hours working from top to bottom! I loved it and felt very exercised, and proud of my clean house at the end of it. The following day, I felt like I'd run a marathon, and then I came down with tonsillitis! So my plan now is little and often - too clean is obviously not good for my health!

daxydynamo · 21/06/2012 21:16

Put it this way, my mum and step dad are arriving tomorrow evening, the spare roomis a shit tip and I am at work all day tomorrow WTF am I supposed to do......has another glass of wine whilst pondering oh well will be ok in the end

Ieavethebastard · 23/06/2012 16:18

Really ? Never ??

My house is always clean (clean kitchen, clean bathroom, clean floors etc ... draws and wardrobes are always messy and the windows could do with another clean)

I do a big clean once a week (3 hours first thing on a sat morning) - and then the wipe downs/floors swept every day (20 minutes after dinner).

I work full time and have 2 children so no one is home all day - which helps !!

CremeEggThief · 23/06/2012 18:29

Well, my house is usually extremely tidy, but spotless is a different matter! Dusting and cleaning doors, skirting boards and covings happen on rare occasions!

dikkertjedap · 23/06/2012 20:49

At least once a week (usually Sunday),

I spend all Saturday afternoon and evening, and sometimes also Sunday morning if I am washing all sofa covers for example, cleaning.

During the week I spend 1 or 2 evenings doing extra bits, like kitchen cupboards/wardrobes/oven/loft/garage/windows inside/windows outside (not the same each week, just rotate).

This way it does not take up too much time. Also helps to get the right cleaning products eg for shower enclosures/taps/stainless steel/oven etc as this makes the whole cleaning thing much quicker.

I love being in a clean house ... Smile

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 23/06/2012 20:57

The whole house - never,
remove the spare room and the study, and the answer is about once a week

The spare room end up with piles of laundry waiting to be ironed or put away
The study is DH's domain and there is no changing it.

OlympicFlame · 23/06/2012 21:14

Pre-DS every day. I was (still am to a certain extent) a clean freak.
Now... Hmmmmm once a week (maybe fortnight if I'm being honest) probably.

Once a year, late on Christmas Eve!

When I was growing up, Christmas was the only time that our house was completely clean (we spent every Christmas Eve hoovering and mopping and washing my mum's wedding dinner service) and now it doesn't feel like Christmas unless I do the same. It's a bit of a pain, especially now that we have kids, but that's just the way it is.

joanofarchitrave · 08/07/2012 16:12

Mine is always awful.

I get one room into a really good state to my standards, about once every three weeks. But even though I am pleased with it, I know that my aunts more houseproud people would still think it was barely liveable.

StellaAndFries · 08/07/2012 16:18

Monday's and Friday's which is when all 4dd's are at school and preschool so I can clean each room in turn and it stay clean for a couple of hours.

bronze · 08/07/2012 16:23

Never

I see pictures with friends house in and wonder how they are so clean and tidy and yet they'll say they're not

Same kind of people as the ones who say they haven't revised yet seem to know it all.

I try
It seems non stop
Even when it's tidy and presentable it's never properly clean feeling like some people (my mil) get it

Melindaaa · 08/07/2012 16:26

Never.

I have 5 children so there will always be fingers prints on patio doors, or laundry waiting to be put away, or a bin needing to be emptied.

It's always presentable though, and never in a state where I would be embarrassed to invite someone in. I like to think our house looks like a lived-in home, which is what it is.

bacere · 08/07/2012 16:30

Never.
I've been trying really hard lately because I keep watching those Four in a Bed programmes and can't believe how they go on about one hair. The other day I was reasonably up to scratch but as I went to clean the entire bathroom I kept having to get one last hair, again and again and then later in the day found another and no-one had been in, everyone was out including me. It must be like the cobwebs and the more you clean the more appear - well that's what I decided.

I have to say I feel so much better reading this thread. I work OK only pt and have an energetic mess inducing toddler and feel a constant struggle to keep everything clean and tidy. I feel so much pressure to have everything looking lovely and that everyone else manages it and feel ashamed when everything is messy should people see it like that and think I'm a complete slattern Blush . I have issues with anxiety and stress and really need to make myself let go a bit in order to relax well either that or find a cleaner
