Shower curtain is stained. How to clean it?

It has that orangey stain that someone on here told me is due to shampoo, or the water type we have here, can't remember which. Anyway the bottom two foot is stained, is there a trick I need to know?

My money is on vinegar/bicarb, obvs.

Washing machine and Vanish?

oreocrumbs · 14/06/2012 09:48

You can wash it in the machine. Or in the bath with biological washing powder.

If that doesn't shift it then you can soak it in the bath with diluted bleach and wash again, but one wash should do it.

TheDetective · 14/06/2012 09:53

What materiel is it?

Frontpaw · 14/06/2012 09:56

I am resigned to getting new ones frequently. We are in london and the bottoms go crusty (yuk). I usually get the long ones, crop off the bottom bit when the foot goes yucky then replace the whole thing (keeping the old one for some unknown reason - wrap a body perhaps?). Ikea do cheapy ones, so do some discount stores, so,I usually have a spare knocking around. A change is nice though!

I stand a deep bucket on a stool and bleach the fuckers when they're not washable. Who makes non-washable shower curtains anyway?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/06/2012 09:58

Bleach in situ - avoids the tie-die look

LoonyRationalist · 14/06/2012 09:59

I machine wash mine weekly (is white & goes in a 60 degree wash), ensure it is fully dried with rest of washing. Never had a stain issue since I started doing this.

CuttedUpPear · 14/06/2012 10:32

Frontpaw it is already an Ikea cheapy one!

In the interest of the planet I would like to keep it and get it clean - I don't possess bleach (not want to) and thought that washing it in the machine would take away its waterproofness?

Mine does this I just chuck it in the washer on a 30 quick wash and it gets the orange out.

RedBlanket · 14/06/2012 10:37

I used to put ours in the washing machine when it got manly. Always came out looking like new.

CuttedUpPear · 14/06/2012 11:55

Manly? Is that a new word for dirrrrty?

OP posts:
RedBlanket · 14/06/2012 16:04

Er that should be manky.

Grin at my shower curtain being manly! It was actually white with gold stars so not manly at all!

CuttedUpPear · 14/06/2012 16:45

I put mine in with towels and some napisan... Good as new x

TheDetective · 14/06/2012 20:29

Mine wipes clean with a cloth!

Littlemissimpatient · 15/06/2012 13:56

I put mine in the washing machine maybe once a month on a 30 wash with my normal washing powder. Comes out good as new and no difference to waterproofness etc.

AllOverIt · 15/06/2012 14:05

We get the orange stuff too. Wonder what it is....?

AllOverIt · 15/06/2012 14:08

urgh! It's this! Blush

MousyMouse · 15/06/2012 14:12

I just put it in the mashine regularly. have a fabric one, though.

fossil97 · 15/06/2012 19:22

gawdnbennet, alloverit I think I'll be cleaning the bathroom tonight! Blush

AmethystMoon · 15/06/2012 19:27

I have a 'nice' shower curtain which I hang in front of a tesco value one (£1.51). The cheap one goes in the bath and get wrt whilst the posh one hangs outside the bath and is the one you see. Bin the cheap one every few months. Ta da!

AmethystMoon · 15/06/2012 19:27

That should say gets wet

AmethystMoon · 15/06/2012 19:29

I can't take credit for this idea, my hairdresser advised it when I started using coloured shampoos for my dyed hair Smile

AllOverIt · 15/06/2012 19:46

I'm binning mine fossil. Going to buy a cheapy one at the weekend Blush

fossil97 · 15/06/2012 20:16

Actually I have just bought a new shower curtain, wonder if I bought two I could keep them in rotation with washing the towels.
