April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

SC - your poor godson Sad. I hope the school are being supportive.

Will you all please stop talking about dogs weeing on sofas and the like! I have spent some time this afternoon hearing, but trying not to listen, to a friend telling me how much she wished she'd never bought her dog

We took the magic dog out again. This time, he led DS1 along a completely different route, a long, long way from home. DS was perfectly happy Smile.

Have an hour before DS2 comes back from his childminder, so am - reluctantly - tackling the ironing mountain. It's so boring, isn't it? I can think of a million things I'd rather be doing...

Please administer a kick up my backside, someone.

sanguinechompa · 20/04/2012 17:12

[Distributes bicarb of soda and J-cloths ...]

Toffee ironing IS boring beyond words ....so won't administer kick!!! Radio Four the only solution.

So fantastic for your ds that magic dog is working wonders!!

Swan/Toffee godson really enjoys school once he has actually entered the building - but is having a tough time leaving the comfort of home and his ma ....and he is a bit behind verbally which is exacerbating problem. School NOT being terribly supportive I'm afraid to say.

Swan A very, very "happy birthday" to your ds! Hope he has a lovely day!

I try to resist watching 'Escape to the Country' as I am beginning to give up hope of ever doing so ...!! Hope you can get a little r & r over the w/e.

Waves to Bitchy and offers encouraging Brew

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/04/2012 17:24

. My nice tidy house of two hours ago now looks as though a bloody hurricane has swept through it, serves me right for smuggery doesn't it?

The DCs have been home less than 2 hours, the kitchen has been transformed into full on arts and crafts mode, the understairs cupboard has had most of it's contents turfed out to look for plastic cups for the aforementioned crafts, there are spilled games and toy cars all over the lounge. The DCs are happily munching an early tea in front of the telly. A pack of Pizza Express dough balls with veg sticks, cheese and olives. Yum!

Right, I should make the most of the lull in activity to go and start tidying shouldn't I?

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 20/04/2012 17:28

SC - am listening to R4 and it's boring me too Sad. Have to stop now to get DS2, but at least I have managed to make myself iron some tops. It's good that your godson is OK once he's at school, so at least it's not the school environment that is upsetting him. Sorry they are not being more helpful though. Poor boy.

Swan - sorry, I missed that it's your DS's birthday. Hope all goes well.

Bitchy - glad your training session went so well Smile.

Off to collect DS2 now, who is apparently soaking wet and wearing an impromptu toga (childminder has just texted me asking me to bring dry clothes) Grin. I think there may have been some water play going on...

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/04/2012 17:31

How the hell have i run out of anti-histamine tablets?? Shock

Tryingtogetairbourne · 20/04/2012 17:35

Happy birthday to Swan son!!!

Bitchy how is ds doing? What did dr say?

Tryingtogetairbourne · 20/04/2012 18:00

sorry dh arrived, had to pretend to do some cooking...

whoknows how is OU coming along? Interesting or are you stuck or bored?

toffee do I mention ddog2 humping all his bedding as I type? Got bedding all over floor now...and would send for snip but want his weight up first and he's just started runs again!!! Could be that bit of burger I gave last night...must not be sympathetic to him...do I starve again or do I just feed rice and egg and cut out new dog food...hmmm could go to vets and they will charge fortune to tell me to starve him...may buy that special food they gave online so at least he's getting nutrients...that's my concern at mo...cost £41 last time for antibiotic (no blood in poo this time) and a tin of food Hmm and they are the cheap vets!!

More Wine needed. Just reached bottom of vin roouge... must start on white now...

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/04/2012 18:01

Grin toffee at water play.

Ds is driving me mad. As usual. HmmGrin Over tired and a bit weepy.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/04/2012 18:19

Trying - it's interesting but I do need a quiet house and a minimum of an hour really to get going and concentrate on it and it's just fitting it in with work, the DCs, everything else really.

If it was a bigger commitment I would schedule it in properly, but because it only needs a couple of hours a week it is easy to keep putting it off!

OP posts:
Tryingtogetairbourne · 20/04/2012 19:10

Ddog2 has pooed in hallway. It was a runny one.

On the bright side I've finished my home blessing!! mopped hall kitchen and utility room!

Tryingtogetairbourne · 20/04/2012 19:12

whoknows ah...I remember now...'getting into it'...I agree...once you are into it its then hard to stop...

Tryingtogetairbourne · 20/04/2012 19:16

Where did all those posts come from? Swear this place sends posts to same place as my stuck text messages I get 24hrs after they are sent Hmm Catch up later got to drink more wine do washing up. Dd1 just sat on knee, not tired and wants to stay up a 'few hours'...Hmm

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/04/2012 19:24

Well you are doing better then me. Tea is not cooked yet. And I promised ds we would watch a film tonight. going to be another late one. Although by the sounds of it ds has fed himself whilst I was in the bath and the pizza dough that was proofing will no longer be needed.

Someone tell me gnomeo and juliet will make me laugh later. lie if you need to

scattyspice · 20/04/2012 19:46

LOl at all the dog posts Grin. Poor toffee sounds like DS1 needs a dog though, or could he make walking magic job a regular comitment (I used to dog walk for several elderly neighbours at his age and loved it ).

sympathy for carpe DD also a very wheezy baby/toddler, seemed to need steroids every winter. Now has no problems Hmm.

Happy Birthday swan DS1!

LOL bitchy DS sounds resourceful Grin.

Hi everyone else.

Been to work so no flying. Need to nitcomb dd again (this has become my main pastime [sigh]).

BB tom

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/04/2012 22:27

Well, you lot must have worn yourselves out chatting is all I can say. Either that or you are all snoring in the naughty corner

I have just re-read today's posts in their entirety. Very little Flying anywhere, including here. Just as well we can all just start again on Monday I think!

I'm tired. I did manage to restore tidiness to some areas of the house, but it has been a hectic evening.

5pm DH phoned to say he would be home by 6.30. Good.

5.30 DH's best friend arrived to stay for the weekend, good, someone else to play with the DCs for a bit (they love him).

7pm I am getting quite short tempered with the very excited DCs and DS is getting quite weepy as he is waiting for DH to bring home the book he had ordered from Amazon (get all parcels delivered to DH at work) which he forgot to bring home yesterday.
7.05pm DH phones and says he will be back by 8 (grrrr). DS dissolves into tears (he really wants this book).

7.06pm Mum lets DS play on the DS again anything to calm him down
7.30pm DH phones to say he will get a takeaway on his way home (good)
8.30 DH arrives (hallelujah). Takeaway dished up, DS happy with his new book, DD happy watching Gardeners World (takes after her mum).
9pm DH and friend disappear to pub leaving mountain of washing up.

Oh yes, and DH informs me he's going out at 6am to stand in a queue outside some record shop for some special record buying day thing, so that's me to look after the DCs in the morning then, not sure if best friend is going to the record shop but normally sleeps in till midday. And DH is going away on business on Sunday afternoon.

But at least I didn't have any shitting, weeing, humping dogs to deal with.
I'm going to bed (to watch ER and try and finish my crochet project).

Tomorrow is Family Fun Day. Back with links in a minute.

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/04/2012 23:03

I am still here. Survived Gnomeo and Juliet. Now watching something that I probably really shouldn't want to be warching tonight. Already regretting it but hey ho, live and learn and all that crap.

Hope you all have fabulous weekends tomorrow is going to be a crazyone so will start with a list:

Attack the kitchen
Washing
Make sure that ds' kit is ready for the road trip
road trip with ds for his match
MAKE SURE HAVE DIRECTIONS!!!
make up snacks for road trip
and fill any time before heading out with anything that gets in my way or annoys me in an attempt to discover the house under the chaos.

Sleep tight fledglings may it be a long restful and uninterrupted sleep.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/04/2012 03:01

Hmm, no uninterrupted sleep here, Bitchy , but I did fall asleep early with DS2, so have had a few hours' sleep. Hope match goes well today. Is DS playing in match or watching? (How was 'Gnomeo and Juliet' by the way?).

WhoKnows - lol at the lack of Flying on this thread today . I'm afraid Flying has fallen quite low on my list of priorities, but I would hate to miss the chat here. I sincerely hope your DH is going to make it up to you next weekend, by the way. Or maybe he and his friend could let you have an afternoon nap on Saturday? Could you point out that it is Family Fun Day and you are not having much fun Wink?

Carpe - I hope you are getting some sleep tonight, although I suspect not. Both my DC grew out of their early croup and wheeziness, by the way (not much consolation to you now, I know, but you'll get there eventually!). When DS1 was little, DH and I developed a great routine for setting up a steamy bathroom (DH prepared the kettle and ran a hot bath, whilst I cuddled distressed DS and then took him into the bathroom when ready). We adjusted to it happening whenever DS had cold. Having a humidifier in his bedroom helped too. I was told to check his chest if I was worried about his breathing - the doctor told me that you would be able to see his ribs if he was straining to breathe (it never happened, thank god). Also to check for blueness around the lips (terrifying thought, but also never happened). Knowing these signs really helped because I could reassure myself that all was well, even when he was making horrifying croupy barking sounds and wheezing.

Scatty - I'm afraid we have already told DC we are getting a dog, so there's no getting out of it now, otherwise I might have gone for the 'walking the dog' option instead. Sympathies re nit combing, by the way.

Trying - am not hearing your talk of runny dog poo, humping bedclothes and vet bills. No, I'm not! Well done on finishing your home blessing, by the way. Did your DDs go to bed eventually?

DS1 casually mentioned that he was going for a sleepover with his friend again today Shock. They were planning to go back to friend's house around 3ish ("Oh yeah, someone will be there" Hmm), but I wised up to that and texted the mum to find that she was abroad and stepdad wouldn't be back till 6. I wasn't happy about them being alone there for several hours, so kept them here and bribed them with food (bacon in maple syrup seemed to work). Stepdad picked them up on his way back from work and DS1 went off without a backward glance, all carefree, as if he's never had an issue with anxiety in his life Shock Shock. He couldn't find his mobile but said that was ok, he didn't need it. This means he's not worrying about getting into a panic and needing to ring us.

Had hysteria at bathtime from DS2 because he has a splinter on the back of his leg from a school bench and a kindly teacher has stuck a plaster on it, which needed removing so I could take out the splinter. You'd have thought I was trying to saw his leg off. What a fuss. In the end, I assured him that I would perform the whole sorry business of removing the plaster and the splinter once he was sound asleep (I once achieved this successfully with DS1 - told him the 'splinter fairy' had been in the night). However, I then fell asleep with DS2 and I'm not sure he's sound asleep enough now. Will check later.

Not sure what Saturday holds for us, although I know we are going out for dinner in the evening and leaving MIL at home to babysit. Oh, and I'm making a lemon cheesecake for the dinner (have never made one before ).

Hope everyone has a good day.

Tryingtogetairbourne · 21/04/2012 08:58

Ddog2 has WORMS

Could be causing runs...tis one of the symptoms. Does mean no dog training...another cancelled week usually child ill health...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/04/2012 09:15

Morning all,

A beautiful sunny say here (but it started like that yesterday too). DH departed at silly o'clock to stand in a queue outside the record shop, just texted to say he'll be back in 20 mins, so that's something anyway.

Toffee - we've had similar scenarios with trying to get plasters off, honestly, what a palaver. Hope you got some sleep.

Bitchy - enjoy the match

Trying - worms, ewww.

Back later.

OP posts:
BitchyInTheCorner · 21/04/2012 09:21

Now that was not what I wanted to read first thing this morning whilst contemplating breakfast. Thanks for that trying Hmm

Gnomeo and Juliet was ok. ds was too fidgety really but there are some hidden grown up jokes that he didnt get and it wasn't too horrific.

Ds has put the kettle on and i now have directions and checked emails/fb/mn so must go grab coffee, get up and hit the ground running.

Ds is playing so the lie in was kinda important as he has had far too many late nights this week, including last night.

I have been thinking about the plans for next week wrt where I need to be and apart from several ballsups when i need to be in two different places wearing two different hats thought processes it seems managable. At the moment. I am sure that is going to change.

Must. stop. procrastinating.

sanguinechompa · 21/04/2012 09:31

Morning

Grumpsville here. Dh and I had row last night. I'm still feel a bit miffed shirty this morning. Weather is suitably overcast!

Downstairs looking shiny (cleaner came yesterday) and there is loads of ironing to put away (because fortnightly ironing lady who actually comes monthly, finally arrived too!!) Upstairs (apart from bathroom) is a different matter though. It looks as though several bombs have exploded. It's time to do the boudoir thoroughly- no avoiding it now...

Perhaps a list will help

Morning routine + dw, wm, s&s done
Important e-mails done
More laundry
DD ballet run
Buy presents for various birthdays
Various errands for dd
Barnet Fair cut?
Boudoir
Food shopping/planning
Choose colours/fabrics for sitting room (doing some 'temporary' tarting up)
Friends over for takeaway type casual supper
Evening routine

No enthusiasm for any of the above really ... but I'd better get started.

Hope everyone has a really good weekend! (And thanks for links Whoknows)

Huge waves to everyone else ...

MoreCatsThanKids · 21/04/2012 10:22

Just popping in to say 'Hi' and leave cake for everyone - DD has made double Choc chip muffins this time - enjoy!

Have a good day everyone :)

ToffeeWhirl · 21/04/2012 10:42

Thanks, MiniMoreCats.

Trying - something must be up with my computer because I can't hear anything you are saying Wink.

SC - Smile at the shiny house and freshly done laundry. Hope you win the argument and DH make it up today.

Bitchy - hope your busy day goes well and DS enjoys the match.

WhoKnows - glad to hear DH was due back at a respectable time. I just hope, for your sake, he doesn't go back to bed as my DH probably would if he'd been out drinking the night before.

As the splinter fairy fell asleep last night and did not remove plaster or splinter, I am taking DS swimming this morning in the hope that said plaster will float off in the pool (with apologies to all the other swimmers Blush. I will try to take it home with me, honest). Maybe, if I'm lucky, the splinter will come out too.

No word from DS1, so I hope that means he's having a nice time.

Came down to a very tidy kitchen, thanks to DH doing all the washing up last night Smile.

Need to go and get dressed now . Must not click on 'Most Active'...

Tryingtogetairbourne · 21/04/2012 10:57

Sorry about the w word...will not use again but now want to bleach floors/carpet/myself...diluted for children...so...

Vacuum living room
Vacuum furniture

What were todays tasks again?

Luckily I'm up to date on washing

1 x dry

Thanks for links Whoknows

Hope all children are well/feeling better, magic dog is doing his magic (looks like it...!) and your all getting your flylady jobs done
