April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Personally I always remove the hard-drive, and tbh that is all that I have done this time. Some will rescue graphics cards etc but tbh unless you know what you are doing wrt building computers it is rather pointless. And the technology is so quickly outdated these days.

Well done on your list Issimma. Hope you are managing to enjoy your weekend as well as being productive.

My list is long as I have a short window to get the house into a functioning order and need to make the most of it. There might have been rather a lot of coffee of the industrial strength drunk to achieve that list on so little sleep but hopefully, i might start sorting out my sleep pattern. I live in the UK but you wouldn't be able to tell from my posting habbits Blush.

Will be back with a list dump in a bit.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/04/2012 21:48

Quiet on here today, hope everyone has been having a nice relaxing day. I'm just going to post links and get off to bed, as there isn't much to round-up.

Tomorrow is Monday, our babystep is Start to declutter or carry on if you are already underway.

We will be in Zone 2 (the kitchen) with this mission mission

and this sneak peek sneak peek

Monday's Focus is Home Blessing. I do a modified (shorter) version of this, sometimes it has to be spread over a couple of days, but it does get the basics done which make a big difference.

Grrrrrr Just lost a long post when internet failed!!!

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter Weekend.

Nettie A month with the in-laws! Shock Wow I am impressed. I am glad you are enjoying your bathroom now.

Not a lot done here over the weekend. Bitchy your list is mightily impressive. that looks like about a weeks list for me! Blush

I am now lodger-less! Hooray!! She finally left yesterday after I went and removed her bed saying I needed it for DD2 (who arrived home yesterday) She had been here for 3 weeks, we had given her plenty of warnings we needed her out - we had agreed to 2 nights initially. I fed her and treated her like my own. I encouraged her to look for somewhere else to go. I even made phone calls on her behalf and tried to get her somewhere to live, even if just temporary. She left without a thank you and has never offered as much as a penny and has thrown all my efforts to help her back in my face by not following up phone calls that I had organised etc. But why do I still feel so guilty???? Confused

Well, today is a new day. DD2 is home for a week - YAY!! All the family together.
I really must climb my washing mountain today. That is my aim for today!
My main oven has broken this weekend, so I feel as if my right arm has been chopped off. No Easter chocolate cake baked here, which is the first time ever!!

Honu · 09/04/2012 07:58

I can feel the house backsliding into chaos again so have restarted for the new week. Daily chart is on the desk again, a list of 3x15 min tasks the MUST be done today (isn't 15 mins a long time when you are doing boring tidying /decluttering!). I started C25K a couple of weeks ago, so dog and I have run, I have had breakfast and am now getting ready to start on the first task (papers on desk).

[tan tights emoticon] I bought the flylady timer. Yes, I know - why buy it from the US? Because my phone won't do it, I spent ages on Amazon looking for one that did what I wanted (simple, with vibrator) and got so fed up with looking I just bought it. It does what it says on the tin and is definitely what I wanted. Total cost just over £14 inc postage.

Honu · 09/04/2012 08:00

PS meant to say PA you are just so nice. You don't deserve to be taken advantage of and please don't feel guilty. Thanks definitely in order.

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 08:18

I'm back!! Got through dogs gasteo enteritis, he seems to be over it, had an antibiotics, all seems to be well...3 days since last accident.

Had 2 bday parties to do...spent last week rushing round like a blue arsed fly trying to get all organised and presents. Just one bday to go now...I give dd's a small get together on their actual bday and then a joint bday party...next year just two! Disaster struck where somehow I had managed to miscount numbers!!! 2 party bags short! 2 lots of food short!! I pulled back from the brink by giving no party bags to dd's (distracted with presents) and spread lunch out...was loads anyway...but didn't half panic me.

So monday!!! fresh start anyone?

House bound today dd1 has tummy ache.

Digging out flylady book and going to do monday morning routine...

Managed to find it...

Flip, beds first. I hate making and unmaking beds and the washer and dryer are full. Going to do it anyway. bb in 10

Hope everyone is well and flying :)

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 08:33

Success! I have alot of sheets and dd1 has a sleeping bag which is in wash as I speak, easy one to start with. THe others are looking a bit grubby...cannot tell you how long it is since I last did them....maybe a month...6 weeks...anyone beat that...(I have left it longer than that too...Blush

Quick poll if I may.

How often do you wash your children?

Flannel wash?

In the bath/shower wash?

I think I may need to fly them too Blush

x

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 08:36

Diff order of list in book to on website...still

TRASH TIIIIIIIMMMMMEEEEEEEEE!!!

Makes it feel a bit more fun that does. Almost.

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 08:47

done. With chorus of 'mum mum mum mum mmmmmmuuuuuuuuuummmmmm' dealt with too.

  1. dust. Do I have to do something about it? no feather duster...will damp cloth and i have pledge wet polisher wipes....oooooo!!! Problem is the surfaces have stuff on them [buhmm] this won't take long.
Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:07

Done.

Actually makes me realise I have some nice stuff. And when I wrung out the cloth the colour of the water...it was proper brown [bublush]. Our windowsill was FILTHY. Ring marks (don't take drinks up there so god knows how they got there) that I cant get off...all the paintwork is scratched and stained...

okay, no. 4 (is that all I'm on????) (doing hair dos for girls now, suspect flylady has no young children [buhmm]

anyway, yes sweep or dust mop floors then step 4B is mop for 10 min.

I may be some time. (now being asked for money by 3 yr old...sure this didn't happen to fly lady on her monday home blessing...)

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:12

aggghhh stuff all over floor and dogs on beds!! and pile of washing up winking at me. will not get distracted, sweep floors...dogs will have to be turfed into...not living room (incontinent pups they can be) hall then shifted back to the kitchen to shift back into kitchen then mop hall ....[buconfused] lost track now....anyone want a couple of slightly incontinent dogs?

Oh and as I'm the first in...I'll just put the cafetiere on...freshly baked crossiants on side...all crispy on outside and squidgy in the middle ouzing with butter...oh and I meant to bake bread today and have to do a mermaid collarge with dd1...

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:15

might miss that one...

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:19

floor, what floor?!

you know I think I need to go back to work...i spend far too much time with the kids...or cleaning

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/04/2012 09:19

Trying - you need magic eraser block, gets all sorts of marks off woodwork. Get it from hardware shops, pound shops, Homebase etc (in Homebase it's on the JML stand). I am slwoly going round all the skirting boards with it, the difference is astonishing.

As for washing the DCs (mine are 6 and 8), they have a bath 2 or 3 times a week, hair wash once, I am trying to convert them to showers but they still love playing in the bath together. Flannel in between as necessary. Mine both go out in the garden barefoot a lot so their feet get disgusting.

It's pouring with rain here today, as forecast. DS is happily watching telly with some toast (he gave it up for Lent and is very happy to have it back again). DH and DD are still in bed. I need to go and get dressed. Nothing much planned today, will wait a bit and see what the weather does.

Honu - well done on the running, I saw you had posted on the C25K thread.

PA - what an ungrateful madam! I suspect she probably didn't get brought up by parents as thoughtful as you though. Hope you can get your oven fixed quickly.

NickNacks - ooh, where are you going?

Bitchy - wow, mega list. I also badly need to work on core strength, started pilates a month or so back but need to do more at home.

OP posts:
Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:31

done sweeping now filling bucket. Why is my brand new mop so filthy already? Do i have to wash it after i've washed floor?...obviously...just can't be bothered...

Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:31

dogs now moved into utility rooms onto their beds. Look confused. Children keep asking me 'what are you doing mum'. You'd think I didn't do this every week [buconfused]

CarpeJugulum · 09/04/2012 09:44

Morning all! Hope we all had a nice Easter Sunday. Ours was somewhat marred by an unexpected car bill as a tyre punctured, and then we needed the brakes done. Still, bonus time for me this month, so hopefully that should cover it when the credit card bill comes in.

Normal day for me - DH at work, I'm WAH (just finished as DS let me do it while he was still awake Shock) I feel a bit guilty when I do it while he's awake, but I need to crisis clean today for the PIL arriving tomorrow, so at least this way I get peace to move sofas and dust.

So today I need to:
WAH job
Dust living room
Deep hoover living room (move tables/sofa/DS' play mats)
Ditto above but in dining room/hall
Seal shower in upstairs bathroom - it's only used for guests but has a bit of a gap in the sealant so I need to plug it just in case.
Clean upstairs bathroom
Mop upstairs bathroom floor
Mop study and flick duster round it
Hoover stairs and DS's room and flick duster round
Corner shop for milk - may delegate to DH tonight
Wash bathmats
Washing for DH & I
Washing for DS

Then tomorrow (as I'm at the planning stage!)
S&S bathrooms
Clean kitchen
WAH job
Chill, try to look relaxed for people coming never going to happen
Wipe inside of main windows

Oh god, I'm so screwed. Anyone in NE Scotland got a few hours spare to help? [bugrin]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/04/2012 09:48

You can do it Carpe

OP posts:
Tryingtogetairbourne · 09/04/2012 09:52

Thirsty now, wine looking tempting...9.41 too early?

Done sweeping and mopping. feels liek it took too long...didn't count but did it fast. now filling bucket with clean water (2 changes of grey/brown water). Cleaned mop now (slightly lighter shade of grey). I'm knackered.

  1. The most energetic of all = vacuuming. Stairs take 10 mins alone. Did do hoovering last wk...but at least not as much dust/hair as last time...

put ds on to charge for dd1, need to mend purse for dd2. now being asked for ballet shoes...

purse repair not good enough...upset child oh v woebegun and crying...dogs now fighting over a chew...when did i start this hour???

Morning Whoknowswhereallthetimegoes!! Magic eraser block, ok...will get tho not convinced it will get these marks off!!

I need to do pilates too but can't be bothered to spend evening doing it...and my back is feeling better than it has in years with all the dog walking, at a fast pace up long inclines...

children nagging...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/04/2012 10:00

*Trying - it has shifted marks I never thought would shift. We used to keep our pushchairs in the dining room (tiny hall) and the door is painted a light colour, it had horrid black rubber scuff marks from the wheels along the bottom. Nothing I tried would shift them till I tried Magic eraser and they were gone in an instant.
