Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Hi all,
as predicted an early night with a movie and biscuits cheered me right up :)

am up,but not dressed yet. Dd1 is watching a dvd in her room and am just getting dd2 to nap now so i can shower. Was supposed to go to local football club for dd1 to see if she wanted to join but its lashing and i dont drive so we would all be soaked even before we got there so thats out. No new plan as yet

anyway breakfasts are done
dishwasher
dp in bed after nights and has a terrible cold so all tiptoeing today!
Also the moon sand thats still on the kitchen table is going to have a bad accident, I predict it! Then I can Hoover it up and never have to feck with it again. Am on the phone but will be back in a while with a proper list and personals
x

messymammy · 03/09/2011 08:11

Obviously that should be deal with, not feck with Blush

Fuzzled · 03/09/2011 08:29

Morning all!

Feeling a little tender this morning after a girls night out. Surprisingly, not alcohol induced, or at least I don't think it is! My sinuses are really bloody sore and making my eyeballs hurt. Sad although, to be fair, this may be because I didn't remember to use the nasal spray last night. So maybe slightly alcohol induced Wink

T'was a lovely night, but at about 9pm I did find myself flagging and thinking about a Brew , bed, and wondering how much of a mess my husband was creating - and would I have a shiny sink to come home to?! Blush

Anyway, today is a quiet day for me. Got to
• Lay away washing
• S&S ensuite

And that's about it really.

Will be back later to catch up as on phone just now.

WAVES to all Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/09/2011 09:32

Silvery - Flylady has a whole section devoted to Christmas. We found on the thread last year very divided opinions about Christmas, with some people (waves at Nettie) starting about now and others (like me) being firmly in the Christmas doesn't start till December and should cause minimal disruption to the rest of the year camp. Actually that one might be just me!

Fuzzled -

OuchPassVodka · 03/09/2011 10:22

Must admit Whoknows must admit I am of the firmly christmas in Nov rule but i decided to make presents again this year and as I owe 2 from last year when i got sick.Blush Best start now with the making. I have an idea list. It has been filed and will be ignored until December.

October is going to be carpet cleaning again. We have pale carpets and they need doing once a year. October half is the best time to do them.

Right list today:

up
glasses
banking
calander chart thing
wool and knitting needles
something fun for ds that takes minimal effort - icing and decorating rich tea biscuits I think.
Ikea run
tidy lounge
laundry
hoover lounge.
Project if time.
Early night.

Have fabulous days!

SilveryMoon · 03/09/2011 10:52

Just about to pop to tesco, then back for lunch and then park.
Dp's in bed as he's on night shifts now so can't do hoovering etc til he gets up.

Will be having a look at FLYlady christmas then later too

Fuzzled · 03/09/2011 11:19

Where's the Fly Lady Christmas thing?

I'm not that organised, but think with a DS this year, I'm going to need to be!

Makingchanges · 03/09/2011 11:27

Morning all

So far had a huge argument with DH and taken DD to dance class. Not sure thats such a good start to the day.

Came back from Dance class to find DH has cooked something greasy and smelly in kitchen and left it a complete greasy tip (Which is annoying as it was spotless before I left) and has hoovered upstairs, apparently around things as nothing has been moved Angry. Anyway he has now gone to cricket for the day and DD has gone across road to friends so my jobs today

  • Re-hoover upstairs once other things have been moved
  • clean kitchen (again)
  • Parcel up 3 books sold to take to post office on Monday
  • Clean up DDs paint mess from yesterday
  • Look at job specs for three possible jobs to see if they accept NQTs / meet requirements
  • 15 mins in master bedroom
  • 15 mins in dds bedroom
  • photograph some things to go on ebay tomorrow
  • catch up on soaps on tape whilst have house to myself
  • try and locate a pressie for my twin sister.
  • Label uniform (I think this has been on my list most of the week)

Nicknacks no advice on BBQ but hope it goes well and that the sun is out where you are.
Fuzzled I'm Envy of your list. I wish mine was so short today

Back later

OuchPassVodka · 03/09/2011 11:32

holiday control journal here - print and go.

My big thing is budget. Money is tight so have to really think about who is getting what and which month it is coming out of. I guess this is why i have started early with sorting this aspect.

My plans have been scuppered as ds has taken himself off to play at a friends. Actually really quite pissed off as he didn't ask me as he knew i would say no. Angry leaving him there til lunch and ground him.

swanriver · 03/09/2011 12:53

sorry not to be more forthcoming, but have bad sore throat
[I was fine at yesterday's party?Confused

Hope your BBQ went/goes well Nicknacks bbq I went to last night was v swish (all homecooked food) but for some reason a bit muted..too few people in a large space I think. Sometimes the more people crammed into a space the better. DH thinks (as arthritic 48 yr old) that there should always be somewhere to sit as well, as standing too long very dull..

think I lost a post yesterday - Ds's cast is still not off, as we (hosp, ds1 and I)decided to give it another week to give through trials of first week at SS.

oh dear, sons quarrelling..better interact further...Hmm

substantiallycompromised · 03/09/2011 14:34

Hello Fledglings! Goodness, you have been busy!

Phew what a scorcha! I've been out all morning and lunch time trudging the streets picking up the last few bits of necessary school kit and buying things for dh's b'day. It's boiling hot and my feet are killing me!! Lovely to have some sunshine at last though.

Ta da:
bought dd gym trousers, gym shoes, ballet tunic
inscribed dd in dance classes
food shop
bought dh present

To do (this w/e):
change beds
tidy boudoir (this will be a long job)
sort out summer/winter coats
make dh cake
watch Burghley horse trials!
cover dd books
clear a path through home office
write out schedules for forthcoming term and fill in calendar etc

[hands Swan lemon and honey drink] Sorry to hear cast still on but sure it will bring your ds great prestige among his school friends ... Pity about bbq too. Hope you feel better soon.

Ouch thanks for link. You are wise to budget for Christmas. I always end up spending far more than I had intended and we have to draw in our reins this year.

MC hope your day gets better and that you are able to enjoy having the house to yourself for once

Hear! Hear! Fuzzled I am determined to be on top of it this year too. [Hands over new supplies of nasal spray]

Glad you are feeling a bit more cheerful Messy Sounds like you have done exactly the right thing and anticipated being a bit up and down during withdrawal and planned for it with treats etc. Good on you!

Nettle have a lovely time at the petting zoo!

Hope you weren't up too late sorting the kitchen Toffee

Waves to Silvery and Whoknows - both of your lists are v. impressive as usual

Hello to anyone I've missed! Enjoy the weekend everyone!

OP posts:

Early night. No fecking chance :(

Currently feeling grumpy and miserable. Hopefully by tomo I will feel tired, grumpy and miserable but will have a tidy down stairs.

And i have just discovered that we have overdue library books. Bugger :(

madwomanintheattic · 03/09/2011 17:40

hum, apparently my ta-da and nesbit post vanished into the ether last night!
meetings were all good and apparently i'm now brown owl. bit steep learning curve for someone who knows sweet fa about brownies, but i managed akela last year without any scouting knowledge... as long as i remember it's three fingers and not two i should be ok... (!) school meeting was interesting. apparently dd2 has been transferred with no funding. (she has cp) hmm. that one's going to need some more work...

today:

laundry (x about a million. eek)
buy pull-ups! (dear god, buy pull-ups)
dance shopping (classes start next week and everyone has outgrown their shoes ££££)
vacuum (we have dog drifts Blush less attractive than snow drifts, but warmer)

this weekend:

hang pictures! (they are driving me crazy. we moved in three months ago!)

try and find wedding/ engagement rings (Sad i fell down the stairs before we moved and my fingers swelled up hugely. took them off and put them in an earring box. said box has now vanished, presumably into one or other of the moving suitcases/ boxes/ bags etc. i'm not panicking. yet. but i'm a bit anxious, had hoped they would turn up by now... Sad)

the sun is shining today though!

happy flying all!

madwomanintheattic · 03/09/2011 17:43

oh, and babystep. obv. with just shoes, not lace-ups. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/09/2011 19:14

Ouch - can you renew books online? Has saved me from a fine or a trip to town more than once.

MadWoman - hope the rings turn up, I would find it very unsettling not knowing where mine were.

Coostoo - hope the bracelet turns up too

SC - hope your feet have calmed down, we had a scorcher yesterday, just pleasantly mild today.

Swan - hope your throat improves soon, have you tried gargling with soluble aspirin? I also find eating lots of ice cream very soothing!

MC - grrrr to DH and mess

Ta-da!

Kitchen cleaning - DH does the final washing up of an evening and puts DW on, but never rarely remembers to wipe counters, cooker or sweep floor. Let alone shine the sink. Since we reached this agreement (ie DH does that job every night and I don't nag him abut much anything else housework- wise) our sink has not been shiny. It never is really with hard water, but in recognition of my Try-To-Fly-Properly-September I have incorporated it into the morning routine.

Decluttering/hotspotting - little bits of effort distributed randomly around the house
Detailed Cleaning - 5 mins or so ditto.
Ironing including nametapes - 1/2 hour
Dinner - done and dishes washed up (by me, as it is DH's only non work day this week thought I'd let him off)
Play with DCs - very boring helping DD construct a cardboard kennel for a toy dog and then throw a birthday party for it. My two never tire of having birthday parties for their toys (yawn).
Washing - two lots ready to put away
Shopping - done
Home bleugh - cleaned bathroom

Dressed to shoes - FAIL. I know what Flylady says, but honestly do not think it makes a jot of difference.

I have realised that if I leave changing the sheets out of home bleugh it can be done in something approaching an hour after all. If the house is reasonably tidy (haha!). I prefer to do them when the weather looks good enough for line drying anyway, nothing nicer than getting back into line dried sheets the same night.

Nesbit list

The rest of the ironing
Meal planning / Ocado order
Paperwork
Dig out DD's tap shoes and see if they fit.
Order some stuff online.

SilveryMoon · 03/09/2011 19:24

Evening all Any Wine around?
Had a very good day today.

TA-DA
Shower and dress (to flip flops)
Swish and swipe
Boys dressed
Plan/write list for weeks dinners
Plan/write list for weeks lunches
Polish
Litter tray
Tesco
Feather dust
Dust
Sweep
Mop
Change beds
Babystep
Evening routine
Park with the boys at some point too

Nesbit
Hoover
Iron
Clean clothes away

Dp got up half an hour ago so didn't manage to get the hoover on, but at least it gives me something to do tomorrow, I suppose.

I feel good though that I managed to get so much done today and still spend a few hours with the boys at the park.
Tomorrow is my last day as a SAHM, so plan to double check everyones school bag to make sure I didn't forget to pack anything, pluck my eyebrows, spend time with the boys and we are goingto a friends house, but will detail list in the morning I think.

Cheers Wine

droitwichmummy · 03/09/2011 20:42

Hello everyone! No excuses for missing most of July and all of August - just chilling out Wink

Popped in to tell PA we are just back home from a fabulous week in the IOW. Really loved it and are already planning to return next year.

Might stop by this month, there again I might not - mop and bucket are housing a beautiful collection of spider webs and it would be a shame to disturb themGrin

droitwichmummy · 03/09/2011 20:44

Oh hello silvery - just been catching up on twitter. It's a nightmare when you have been away for a week, I have NO IDEA what is going on over there!

SilveryMoon · 03/09/2011 20:50

Hi droitwichmummy
I'm still getting the hang of it

substantiallycompromised · 03/09/2011 21:09

Evening all. I'm rounding up a bit earlier than usual tonight (I'm an hour ahead here) and I need to get lots done for tomorrow before I can hit the sheets...

Hope you all had a good day!

Silvery has been Flying high again, playing with her boys and definitely deserves a glass of Wine or three! Cheers! And enjoy your last day tomorrow as a "free" woman!! (Well as free as one can be with littlies!!)
Whoknows (our resident barefoot 'Flying' insurgent Wink) has been constructing cardboard kennels, been v. patient with her dh, and got lots of chores done too. [What is it about men and their inability to wipe down a kitchen surface??????]
Madwoman has transmuted from a Fledgling in to a Brown Owl!! Hope you find your rings tomorrow x
Ouch has been massively busy, planning for Xmas, and is about to pull an all-nighter Shock [SC leaves out sustaining oat flapjacks and a bottle of something a wee bit stronger]
Cnettle has bought her first entire school outfit (another landmark moment) and has been petting wee furry animals (other than Stuart Little)
Swan has been suffering from a sore throat, which is very serious in someone of her species (genus Cygnus). Hope you recover soon!
Fuzzled has been recovering from a night on the tiles without nasal spray Wink Grin
Messy may have had a "predictable" Wink accident with moonsand ... Hope your dp recovers soon
Following a trudge around the shops SC had rather too good an afternoon/evening eating Greek salad and frites on a sunny terrace with a glass of rosé or nine (much to the detriment of her list)

Wave to Toffee and everyone else ... oh and hope the bbq went well today Nicknacks and you all had a lovely time!

OP posts:
substantiallycompromised · 03/09/2011 21:11

Yay! My Mummy is back!! Good to see you Droitwich

Just pop in now and again anyway (no need to disturb a good cobweb!)

OP posts:
substantiallycompromised · 03/09/2011 21:15

Baby-step no 4 for Sunday 4th September is here It?s basically an exercise designed to help you start a control journal, more info . here Personally, I can?t be bothered faffing about with post it notes.

No zones or missions today because it is the weekend. (We will be starting in the kitchen on Monday.)

Off now to do a crisis clean bit of tidying and prep for tomorrow (dh birthday) Can't decide whether to bake a cake tonight or tomorrow at crack of sparrows ...either way will probably not be back on here tonight...

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone!
