Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Now what have you all been up to today?

Whoknows has been sick. Her dh has been sick. Her ds has been sick. And her dd was sick a few days ago. They are all getting better though Smile!
(Don't worry about the house - take it easy this w/e and recuperate first!) Sorry to hear you are missing your award ceremony but great news about your school garden winning a gold!!!! That's a fantastic achievement bearing in mind it is less than one year old!! Well done!!!!
Fuzzled has been in pretty much the same situation as Whoknows (hope you recover swiftly too)
Oops has been similarly confined to the house because her dd is poorly (hope she is feeling better tonight)
Nicknacks took her mindees on a picnic, paid a whopping library fine and had a boiler installed. (Congrats on a "full house" from Jan!)
Ouch COMPLETED OVER THIRTY TASKS in one day [top marks!] which I think may be a record!!! Brilliant going!!! Hope the spider in the bath didn't put up too much of a fight! Take it steady tomorrow Smile!
Swan has unravelled her personal Gordian knot, sought and found reassurance re: aluminium studs, satisfied her dcs desire for variously shaped/coloured trousers and bought a turntable for her vinyl collection!
Blue - in common with a few of us today - had a bit of a dispute about PE kit. Her solution made me cackle Grin
Messy (again in common with a few of us) hit a bit of a mid-month slump, comforted her dd1 whose brand new pencil case has been stolen Sad (totally not on - what are those other parents thinking????) and is hunting for a ticket to the football this Sunday ...
RowingBoat had a headache, decluttered her shoes, and then got very excited about her new carpet cleaner!
Linzer went for a run, beat her personal best, felt Sad about her friend Sad and made half-term travel arrangements
CNettle celebrated her ds's 5th birthday Smile!!
MC celebrated her birthday and that of her sister Smile!
AlicevanW did three important things inc prep of delicious lunch

G'night!

Oh dear, sorry to hear so many of us are under the weather Sad . Also Sad for Linzer/ One of my best friends died from cancer a couple of years ago leaving his DW and baby DS - so sad, particularly when you've got a young family.

Thanks SC for keeping me up to date with the fabulous roundups, although I have actually read the thread tonight Grin .

Ouch I've been away for too long this time - are you our serial namechanger? Apologies if not Grin

I have not managed to fly today due to an excess of paid work that required me to drive to Manchester, then Leeds, then Sheffield, then Rotherham, back to Sheffield again and home . However yesterday I did managed to take 8 bags of old clothes to the charity shop and the moses basket and stand (which DS is sadly now far to big for) to the tip.

General enthusiastic wave around the thread Smile .

As we have hoardes of family descending for the weekend I needed to finish sprucing up the house! So:

  • Deep-Cleaned ensuite, bathroom & cloakroom which included mopping the floors.
  • Hoovered our bedroom and changed the bed linen (as the BIL will be in there).
  • Put washing away in a basket (to be ironed at some future time).
  • Tidied and rearranged the garage so it went from me hardly being able to walk through it to getting the car in there! Grin.
  • Put Tesco delivery away.
  • Cooked dinner for DD and my neice.
  • Blew up mattress for DH and I to sleep on (we are the only ones NOT in a bed at the weekend)
  • Wrapped DD's birthday presents.

Written down it doesn't sound a lot but I was definately pleased with how the house looked this afternoon.

In the morning I have to get party food made for 15 hungry friends of DD and then afterwards we are having a BBQ here at home with the hordes (10 here tonight - and another 9 due tomorrow).

I am pooped and as tomorrow will be a long day I best get to bed

OuchPassVodka · 17/09/2011 02:18

PMPY indeed i am the serial namechanger. Grin

Evening. I have just got in. Am knackered. Epic night though. I have sung so much i think i might be hoarse tomorrow and I have laughed so much my muscles hurt. Going to pay for this tomorrow when ds is up earlish but I have brought suitable bribery stuff so hope to have some peace until 9am. Hope you have good days!!!!!

Tomorrow/later's list:

BlueEyeshadow · 17/09/2011 09:26

Packing in a flat spin - off for mil's b'day & totally not geared up for it!! Back tomorrow...

substantiallycompromised · 17/09/2011 10:27

Morning everyone

We all slept a bit late this morning after some (looked like 30+ year olds - can you believe it?) who were drunkenly walking down our street decided to repeatedly ring the doorbell at 4.15 am and run away ... bizarre ...

Today must:
buy gp supplies
change beds
buy two birthday presents + 2 'consolation' gifts
dd ballet
call two friends
e-mail another
get back in touch with fortnightly ironing lady
planning charts
school dates on calendar
dd hwk supervision
sort out pedometer
buy next year's wall calendar/plan
carry on sewing
carry on laundry
wrap 2 parcels
exercise!!!!

Hope you and your mil and all the family have a good day Blue!

Ouch I think you needed/deserved some fun after yesterday's list!!
Dizzy you've done brilliantly! Written down - it DOES look like you have achieved HUGE amounts!! Hope your dd has a wonderful birthday and the visit goes well! Good luck with the barbecue and all the prep! Hope you get the chance for some r & r yourself eventually!
Yay Pushme sounds as if work is putting you through the mill ...crikey ... that's a lot of travelling to cope with! Well done with the eight bags of clothes!! And [sniff - dabs corner of eye] at moses basket ... doesn't seem a moment since littlest mini-Pushme made their appearance ...

Waves to eveyrone. Hope all of you who were feeling grim start to feel better today!

Best crack on ...

Morning all - although only for another 10 minutes here...

Have had a lazy morning so far; just finishing my second cup of coffee and writing a letter that I'd been Nesbitting over for ages (as much as I enjoy writing letters, I just don't seem to have the time for it any more). DH has been busy in the garden all morning putting down concrete for the garden shed to stand on. The neighbours have been doing a lot of home (and garden) improvements recently, and I think he's got into a kind of keeping-up-with-the-Jones mentality as he's talking about finally doing the top-floor bathroom as well.

Have finally heard back from a hotel that has a room for us. Smile Must order Oyster cards now - does anyone know about visitors' vs "normal" Oyster cards? The one advantage of a Visitor Oyster card is that I could buy it in advance and have it sent to Austria (although could have a normal one sent to my parents' address) - but will I feel too much like a tourist with pictures of London sights on my card? Grin Actually, I think I may have found my answer here (probably not much interest to anyone in the UK!).

SC Shock at 30 year old revellers (but glad you managed to have a lie-in afterwards; I would have been too annoyed to get back to sleep!). Good luck with your list!

Blue Hope you have a lovely day.

Ouch Sounds like a good night. Grin

dizzy Hope the BBQ goes well and that you have good weather for it!

PMPY So sorry to hear about your friend too; it's so sad when young children are left behind. Sad

messymammy · 17/09/2011 10:54

i all,
very happy messy this morning, we got tickets for the match last night, they are like gold dust so delighted :) Here's hoping Dublin win now!

Still havent really done anything so list for today:
-Sort out washing: dry washing away, wet washing on drier
-Something for dinner...roast?
-Tesco for dinner
-Bring dd1 to ikea, she wants to go to smalland and I need a new roasting dish for dinner :)
-find the jerseys for the match
-bath for kids

Think that's all I'll manage....
PMPY I'm the same with dd2's moses basket, though I am passing it on to a friend. It will be great to be rid of it
Dizzy am Envy of your long completed list
Glad you had a good night ouch
Enjoy MIL visit Blue if that's the right word!

OuchPassVodka · 17/09/2011 11:09

morning.

oopslateagain · 17/09/2011 13:43

Morning all. No, it's afternoon, but I haven't managed to get dressed yet. Blush DD still feels awful (she's 13), I had a stuffy head all day yesterday so was happy to cuddle with her on the sofa, but I feel fine today (except my asthma is acting up Hmm). Only thing is, DD wants to cuddle all the time! She's always like this if she feels really rotten. So I try to go in the kitchen to clear up, and two minutes later she's behind me, sniffling and putting her arms round me.

I did snap at her earlier and tell her to go lie down for a while, and she went but then did some 'silent crying' into her blanket, so I felt like the worst mum. Sad

I think I'm just going to write off the weekend and get sorted next week when she is back at school. She HAS to shake this off by Monday!!!

NickNacks · 17/09/2011 15:35

Another one still in PJ's- in fact baby is the only one who is dressed and that's only because i bought her a new outfit yesterday which i wanted to try on her- boys are still in PJ's. Oh well.

Dh is working today and whilst i've kept the house from a tip, I've not done any of the jobs on my list. Oh well.

Going to try and do some bits now. Be back soon!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2011 15:50

Well, what a difference a day makes. Spent the whole day in bed yesterday, bar a couple of 15 min breaks, even managed to get the DCs off to bed without leaving the comfort of my own nest, it's so much easier being ill myself now they are a bit older. I got up for tea and toast at 9pm, went back to bed at 10 and slept well, feeling right as rain today, just a bit tired.

Today I have taken DD to swimming lesson, and mainly been hotspotting, difficult to do serious decluttering while the DCs are around but lots of hotspots to tackle.

OuchPassVodka · 17/09/2011 18:32

right list update:

bribe ds to go watch tv until 9am done and got to lie in until 10am poor dsis was visited at 7:30am for a chat
get up done
take ds to get new glasses sorted done and the opticians were fantastically problem solving
laundry cba and not got a full load.
feed masses done
early night. - can i go to bed yet?

Toffeefudgecake · 17/09/2011 19:37

Hello everyone. I feel very out of touch with you all. I thought that with both boys at school at last I'd have some time to myself, but I've been busier than ever Confused. My mum has been staying for several days, we've had MIL to visit today, all sorts of comings and goings with friends and I'm still sticking to my basic Flylady routines. I'm afraid I've given up on the daily missions at the moment, but the routines keep everything ticking over nicely. My mum is very impressed at how tidy my house is these days. Flylady really does work.

DS1 was at school every day this week - his first full week of school for about eight months! He seems really happy there - we still can't believe it.

We are out all day tomorrow, so I won't even be able to catch up with this thread then. However, I'm thinking of you all.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

substantiallycompromised · 17/09/2011 20:42

***

Baby step for Sunday 18th September is here I would recommend you read this as the Fat Fairy's commandments are quite sensible really (apart from the smiley one).

No zones or missions because it is the weekend - Sunday being 'renew your spirit day' in Fat Fairy land.

However, if you want to get ahead with the zone cleaning, we will be in zone 4 (the master bedroom) all next week [[http://flylady.net/pages/FlightPlan.asp

Hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday!

Round-up:

Toffee has been thinking of us Smile - and we have been thinking of her too! Smile (Tis brilliant to hear how well your ds is continuing to do at school after all his struggles! Well done to him and to all of you!!)
She has also had lots of visitors (who have been impressed by the orderly state of her home) and given us some much needed positive testimony about the Flylady system. It's good to hear that it really DOES work (particularly those of us who are in a bit of a mid-month doldrum!)
Ouch had a well deserved lie-in after yesterday's humungous efforts and a late night out and her ds had an encounter with some cognitively elastic opticians
Whoknows has recovered (yay!) and has been hot-spotting, eating toast, and doing the swim-run (take it steady ...!)
Nicknacks has been having a bit of a pyjama day
As has Oops who has been cuddling her poorly dd. Hope your asthma and her cold BOTH improve tomorrow.
Messy has been clutching much sought after tickets for the football and jumping with joy (well, that's how I imagine it anyway!)
Linzer had a lazy morning (that IS good to hear!) and wrote a letter in the garden while her dh kept up with the Joneses
Blue has been visiting her mil
Dizzy has been deep-cleaning and entertaining the hordes!! (Hope your dd has had a wonderful birthday celebration!)
Pushme has been travelling from pillar to post but has still managed to declutter in the meantime!
SC has had a fantastic day in the autumnal sunshine and is feeling altogether cheerier than of late!

OP posts:
substantiallycompromised · 17/09/2011 21:09

Pushme Apologies - I don't know how I managed to overlook the bit in your post this morning about you losing one of your bfs to cancer a couple of years back. I'm very sorry. That is so sad Sad.

OP posts:

It's after 10pm here now and as it's quite quiet on this thread atm I think I am going to head for bed! 'See' you in the morning everyone!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 17/09/2011 21:25

Thanks for the fab round-up, SC.

Lovely to see you again, Toffee - we've missed you!

After my lazy morning we had quite a productive afternoon, choosing bathroom tiles while DD2 was at a birthday party and the other two DC at the neighbours', then spent a couple of hours at the party (adults were invited from 5 pm) where I drank too much wine. The DDs were then invited for a spur-of-the-moment sleepover by a friend of DD2's, and we have her little brother sleeping here to keep DS company.

Have also had quite a productive evening as we've just booked our flights back to the UK for Christmas. Only just over ?400 for all five of us, which isn't too bad at all, although we'll have to get to Munich by 9 am and I'll also have to ask the girls' teachers if they can miss the last day of school as we'll be flying on the 23rd.

Must try to be a bit more productive on the FLYing front tomorrow. I've just agreed to start giving private English lessons (well, one lesson to a small group of children) in the afternoons, possibly starting on Tuesday, so should probably start thinking about that too.

Night all. Smile

sc night night Grin

Makingchanges · 17/09/2011 22:16

Evening all, Just had to say thank you for all the birthday wishes. SC identical, although we have been able to be told apart since we were about 13 due to different hairstyles and her being a bit of a tomboy.

Had a fantastic day yesterday. DH took day off and took me out for brekkie, then to cinema to watch new Sarah Jessica Parker film (was ok, no-brainer watchable), then for chocolate cake before taking me out for a lovely meal last night.

Today we picked DD up and took her to dance class then I have spentthe afternoon applying for multiple jobs. DD had a friend round anplayed nicely and I let them get moon dough everywhere and then claimed it was unuseable and would need to be hoovered up (Evil I know but a. its horrible stuff, b. its horrible stuff). Did manage to get washing done and go to post office.

Tomorrow I am taking my bike to be serviced, (freebie when bought it) then spending the day with dh and dd before going out with dh, dd, dsis and parents for a belated birthday meal.Hopefully I will also get a big of flying done.

Hope you are all well. Back tomorrow

pushmepullyou · 17/09/2011 22:33

Thanks for the roundup SC Smile . Really, no need to apologise, I only mentioned it in passing. Was (and still is) very sad though.

Ouch , or should that be Vodka? , I thought so. I always enjoy 'spotting' you when I've been away for a few weeks.

Messymammy I am torn between being delighted to get rid of clutter (bumbo anyone?) and sad that he is growing up. In the interests of honesty I feel I must also point out that my bottle bank trip the other day was with 6 bags of bottles, not 6 individual bottles Blush

whoknows Glad you are feeling better Smile Hope Oops' DD feels better soon too.

Hello to Nicknacks, Linzer and everyone else!

pushmepullyou · 17/09/2011 22:34

Oh dear, completely forgot to mention flying!

I haven't done any to speak of. Although I did go to the tip and buy a new car!!!!
