Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

OK, apart from piles of washing everywhere (combination of bad weather yesterday, DH spilling a drink on our bed and having to wash the sheets, DH putting some in the dryer and forgetting to turn it on, vomiting daughter and having 2 loads needing doing today anyway) - done quite well today. Oh, just remembered, haven't done much of my paid work. So maybe not so well!

SC and Linzer - I've had spells of being very demotivated, having the thread to keep coming back to has seen me though every time so far, even if I have felt a bit fraudulent. Maybe have a look at your routines and see if you can tailor them a bit differently?

Swan - glad the ASD meeting went OK, we need to start finding out about this stuff in our area. I'm having coffee with a mum from down the road who has an AS son on Friday, she's a friend of a friend so I don't actually know her, but am looking forward to that.

Feet - the beetroot and chocolate cake is in the oven, I haven't tried it before and I have got a funny feeling I may have weighed the ingredients wrongly, but the mix tasted nice! Will post back when I've sampled it, it has been in for the required hour and is nowhere near done. It's this one beet and choc cake

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2011 20:21

Today I have nesbitted. that is all. Already crawled into bed. Interesting med combo thingy again. fucking knee and ankle. Pain is bad, meds are exciting.

However, in view of everyone's days:
BAR IS OPEN so help yourself and makeyourselves comfy in the naughty corner!

coostoonettle · 14/09/2011 20:33

Good evening everyone

DD has an ear infection, i feel a bit bad for shouting at her to get to bed from 2.25am through to 7am this morning. She did mention a sore ear but said she had bashed it! Blush So we are both dosing up on anti-bio and pain relief.

My tada

up/dressed/{hectic really stressful} someone tell me school mornings get easier. Dropped ds off at school, took dd to drs, dropped dd off at nursery.
messed up cashing up againConfused so Confused
went to pharmacy for second part of my prescription, not ordered Hmm must have been the unimpressed look on my face as shop assistant went to another store and picked up some of their supply Grin
back to work to mess up cashing up some more
payroll done
picked ds up from school.
did ds first reading homework. He was very tired but did brill
dh reluctantly took him to a drama club which started tonight and promptly rang 15m before pick up to inform me that he had a mcdonalds and was not going to be able to pick ds up. He has deemed the drama club 4.30 drop off to go 15m away to pick up daughter and return to pick up son at 5.30 an impossible task Hmm We will see next week when im off.
Home made snack
ironed clothes away, tomorrowd clothes laid out
fry up for my tea
Sorted out ds party numbers for saturday. Shock at price (shouldnt be as i was well aware but still shock)
wm on timer
now chill time (sod the work)

Waves to pmpy yum at fudge Grin
cheerful still trying to find workable work/school routine. well done on humungous list
fuzzled glad you had a good sleep even if it was via inflatable
messy aw poor you, nothing worse than a fidgety bed hogging child to distrupt sleep. Hope you have a better one.
blue thanks for Brew hope zumba goes well.
mc well done on interviews and getting good feedback. Hope you get something soon.
whoknows glad dd is better today. Hope she continues to improve.
linzer Grin at washing nappies, i remember stinking baths full of nappies when i was little. Although i think it was more monetary than choice but we used to have one of those old washing boards and mum used to wring everyhting by hand. No mean feat with 7 kids Shock Shock How annoying getting lumbered with dd till so late. That less people pleasing is a very difficult one. If you find the answer be sure to let me know. Assertiveness is what i need too.
sc sorry you having a tough day. I hope things ease up for you soon.
swan glad the asd meeting went well. Sounds like it could be very good. Tooth is ok (lots of ibuprofen Grin), just horrible taste in my mouth from the analgesia stuff he put in. Yuk. Thanks for asking. We have had tons of enquiries over the past week or two but not many sales at the mo. fingers crossed some of them come off. We have a new sales girl and she is champing at the bit to get one of our new caravans sold. Grin keen as mustard (what does that mean) Grin
rowing good to see you. Morning routine sounds fab. I always have sweep floor on mine too after breakfast (doesnt always get done though)
oops homework back to the future sounds awful Grin enjoy Grin
ouch hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the virtual booze, definately need some.

Right im off to hit the hay. Night all.

Fuzzled · 14/09/2011 21:01

On phone so no personals - sorry! Sad

Got all my list done, but have pulled a muscle in my lower back so am in a heat wrap, but no serious drugs as am on cold/flu capsules for cold.

Hoping DS will let me sleep tonight as I don't think I can get down to the inflatable! Wink

Oh, and Nicks I have posted my thoughts on your other thread. Hope it helps - you can PM me if you want more/specific feedback even though we didn't go down the CM route.

NickNacks · 14/09/2011 21:38

Thanks Fuzzled - have taken on board the hygiene thing-hence why i'm always here and failing miserably :)

Had a dreadful night with DD - she woke when i got into bed at 10.30 and promptly stayed awake until 2.40am!!! I was shattered this morning- first mindee got here at 8,30am and i had only been up 20mins. Not good. She has a cold so i can only thing it was that so i've dosed her up tonight in the vain hope that she might sleep through.

No flying done so i'll shamefully join Fuzzled in the naughty corner. Just a Brew for me though as i don't drink.

Night all.

BlueEyeshadow · 14/09/2011 22:22

I've been feeling physically better today, but in a lousy mood and v shouty with the boys Blush. DS2 has discovered the joys of deliberate naughtiness and is being v trying. Sigh. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Nettle - I managed the Wii version of Zumba and felt a lot better for it, so hopefully will be back to the real thing next week. Hope the ABs kick in quickly for you both.

Linzer - hope your evening improved.

substantiallycompromised · 14/09/2011 22:59

Evening all. hank heavens the bar is still open. Just posted and lost it! Will try again ...

Just got back in from school meeting and dh and I took advantage of having a baby-sitter for once and went for a snack & a drink afterwards to mull it all over ...

Baby-step no. 15 for Thurs Sept 15th is here

This week we are in zone 3: the BATHROOM + one other room here Another link about zone cleaning here

Thursday's mission will appear here once website updates

But you can see this week's remaining two missions here

Thursday is grocery and errand day.

We are half way through the month everyone. Apparently, we should have our bedtime routines worked out by now (the habit of the month).

Personally, I have the 15-day doldrums and need a kick up the bum. How is everyone else getting on?

Sorry round-up late again. Paltry excuse I know (and a bit different tonight 'cos went out) but find being one hour later than UK makes more of a difference than you would imagine ...

Also, thank you for putting up with what are becoming my (at least) twice monthly rants today and for your kind words. They really helped - as did 3 large glasses of Wine Grin!

You can tell from Blue's magnificent ta da list that she is feeling better. So much better that she has been harvesting loads of veg and has generally been loud and shouty today!
Nicknacks definitely should not be in the naughty corner because she was sleep deprived today not Nesbitting. (Hope your dd feels better soon.) Sleep well tonight!
Fuzzled has pulled a muscle in her back (oh no - hope you can give the inflatable a miss tonight - do you think that might possibly be the cause? - and that you feel better soon)
CNettle and her dd are dosed up on abs and analagesics (hope you feel better soon) and she has coped admirably with a madly stressful day! She also reminisced about her mother washing the nappies of 7 dc in the bath! (Respect to your ma.)
Ouch has had what sounds like a much needed Nesbit (hope ankle & knee start to feel better soon)
Whoknows has negotiated piles of wet washing, baked beetroot and choc cake and offered wise words about Flying. (Yes, probably do need to re-jig routines now I think about it. Thank you!)
Linzer couldn't stop herself from being typically kind and offering to help out another (not very helpful) mother on top of her usual frantic day!! Hope your dd isn't too tired tomorrow. If it's any consolation, I'm utterly useless at those sorts of 'on the hoof' negotiations too.
Oops came up with brilliantly imaginative advice on how to deal with that precise aforesaid situation (noted for the future!) and dealt with a paper mountain
Rowingboat has ploughed through a large list and has been working out her morning routine. Here is Flylady's if that's any help.
Swan attended the first of a six session course on ASD (so sorry - with all my woes had completely forgotten it was today - so glad you found it helpful - nothing like listening to the real experts ie other parents!!) Thanks but arf at 'angel of work/hearth' (not sure angel's are meant to vent and wail and gnash teeth every 5 mins) just need swift kick up rear!!
Whey hey CY has completed all but one item on her MAMMOTH list!!!! Well done!!!!
MC has been pursuing her job search today with renewed positivity! (Good on you!)
Messy worked through a massive list despite being sleep deprived (hope you get a good 7 hrs or more tonight!)
Feetheart continued with her rationalised three item approach - hope it is working for you!

Waves to Toffee (we miss your daily presence!)
Pushme hope return to work wasn't too painful
Brokenwinged Ellie PA MissJ and everyone else I've missed

Good morning ladies Grin

Up far too early yet again. Hmm

SC - I hope things sort themselves out for you soon in so many areas. It does sound as if you might have a tiny bit of control freakery over the washing.

Fuzzled oh dear, bad backs are painful. Hope ou can rest and it improves very soon.

CNettie - ((hugs)) hope you feel better very soon.

CY - wow you are flying, arent you?

Swan - I'm glad your session was helpful. Smile

*MC - good luck with the job search. Not easy is it. DD1 here is applying for everything remotely acceptable, but then so are 100's of other people. Confused

to everyone else. Smile

Well, the big interview that should have been today has had to be cancelled because DH messed up with work rotas and rather than ask anyone else to work today he had decided to do it himself. I was soooooo angry yesterday, but we will be re-arranging it for the end of the month, hopefully.

So the fact that I was expecting to be away all day, should mean I have a day of doing nothing today, right???? No way!! Manic day ahead:

Washing machine - already loaded and on
Dishwasher
Sandwiches
Unload DW
Load DW
Sort clothes
Take DD3 to college if she is ok today. (college on Monday and she has not been safe standing unaided since, so we will see how it goes Hmm )
Take DD1 to Dr surgery to register and make appointment after having a sore throat for 2 months.
Take DD2 to hairdressers for a hair cut before she flies the nest next week Sad
Shopping
Collect DD3 from college
Take DD1 to work
Take DD2 to work
Hoover throughout the house and start preparations for an "open house" on Sunday to say good bye to DD2.
Cook tea ?what yet
Meeting tonight.

Hmmmm Not too much relax time today Hmm

CheerfulYank · 15/09/2011 06:28

Just going to bed. Blush I really need to get to bed earlier; it'll be my goal next week! :)

Still didn't get the vacuuming done, will try tomorrow. Angry

Ta-Da!:
*Clothes set out for everyone
*Coffee maker at the ready
*Garbage and recycling out for pickup tomorrow
*Table cleared and wiped
*Dishes done
*Counters and stove wiped
*DS backpack packed and ready to go

Good night!

coostoonettle · 15/09/2011 06:47

Good morning Grin

Dd just came into my bedroom and declared "mum I'm all better" Grin aw!

I on the otherhand seem to have tooth ache in places I shouldn't Sad anyway some more ibuprofen should do the trick.

Right my list

Get up/dressed/dc bathed & dressed
Dw on/ wm on/ td on
S/s
School run and nursery run
Work x one million jobs
Home tidy
Mop living room floor
Not go to gym (don't need an excuse but throbbing mouth doesn't entice me to exercise.
Type up minutes of mondays meeting and distribute.
Bed

I've not even looked at any missions this week Blush oops

Hope you all have a fab day Grin

feetheart · 15/09/2011 07:08

PA - Angry on your behalf - men!!!

Trying to juggle too much at the moment and getting very little done due to 'rabbit-in-headlights' feeling. This in turn leads to disturbed nights. Flying, of course, is not being done at all Hmm

Today I will try and concentrate on rental properties and sort as much out as I can. To do:

  • Posters up at school
  • Ring plumber to discuss bathroom in property 1
  • Ring builder to chase quote for property 2
  • Buy mattress for property 1 and organise delivery
  • Ring window company re property 2
  • Buy tiles for bathroom of property 1
  • Visit property 1 and get lots of stuff out of loft for Car Boot sale this w/e - take torch and extension lead this time Blush
  • School Assoc display changed at school

I NEED to get all of that done today - eek!

Hope everyone else has less busy days :)

AliceVonWunderland · 15/09/2011 07:54

Heads for naughty corner

dh away again

fallen out with dd

ds a nightmare

and moulting collie

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/09/2011 09:14

Morning, the chocolate beetroot cake was yummy, if anyone is thinking of trying it it took 90 minutes instead of 60 and the top was burnt because it rose so high and I have a gas oven, so much hotter the higher you go, will be putting foil over it after 45 mins next time.

Have read all your posts, got to get to work now so can't stop and reply but here, have a Brew on me everyone.

OuchPassVodka · 15/09/2011 09:20

morning.

Ta da:

Nesbit - anything atm. might see if that improves with a little bit of sleep this morning.

PA that is bloody annoying
hope those who are under the weather are starting to feel better and that those who are having crazy days have chance to slow down long enough for a coffee break. stupid english keyboard

AliceVonWunderland · 15/09/2011 09:48

colds

but Today
I have walked the dog three times

swanriver · 15/09/2011 09:58

v early start again
Ds1 had a another homework hysteric last night, due to wanting to watch football match and not gettign started early enough (as I was out dropping ds1 and dd to piano/run) But all done! Had to cancel Beaver's helping as all too much dealing with three crazy overwrought children. And dh came early, but still needed two of us!
Ds2's work has deterioated, and haven't energy to intervene in his academic work as well as his pastoral care Hmm Possibly need to talk to SENCO at school, but cannot face it just now...HmmBlush

anyway draw a veil over last night's malfunctions Grin
re-started Lustrum by Robert Harris. I love it. Remember all my latin now...
went to bed earlyish

freezing cold now from standign too long in shade at school gate..

todo
loads of piano practice
cook dinner in advance!!!!homemade chicken pie easy version
get ds2 to do piano lesson/practice (it was actually today noto yesterday Blush

Feet good luck, I so admire how many things you juggle

swanriver · 15/09/2011 10:01

Alice new collie? Collies from my snooping on Doghouse are v.intelligent frisky creatures. Envy Autumn is makiign me long for a dog.

feetheart · 15/09/2011 10:46

Update to keep me going;

  • Posters up at school - done
  • Ring plumber to discuss bathroom in property 1 - done left message
  • Ring builder to chase quote for property 2 - done useless, need another builder for elusive 3rd quote Angry
  • Buy mattress for property 1 and organise delivery
  • Ring window company re property 2 - done
  • Buy tiles for bathroom of property 1
  • Visit property 1 and get lots of stuff out of loft for Car Boot sale this w/e - take torch and extension lead this time blush
  • School Assoc display changed at school

Have also sorted through HUGE box of damp lost property at school and reclaimed anything useful for 2nd hand uniform sale - its all been there since end of summer term, nothing is named and most of it is school logo stuff. I am ShockShockShock that people can spend good money on stuff and, presumably, just write it off when it gets lost. Need to pick it up later and organise a few people to help wash it.

Right - uniform pick up, put boot sale poster in few far-flung shops on the way (one is nice underwear shop owned by a Mum, I may be in there a while :)), tiles for flat, mattress shop then pick up car boot junk from flat loft to sell on Sunday.

Onwards............................

brokenwingedflier · 15/09/2011 11:36

I had the day from hell yesterday after the vet told me my puppy was blind. I have a thread in the Doghouse. But I managed to mow the lawn! Today I will do my yesterday list. (It is looking a bit more hopeful on the dog front)

And bathroom sink

I appreciated my relatively clean and tidy house in the (unbloody believeably) stress of the dog problem. Smile

AliceVonWunderland · 15/09/2011 11:52

oh dear to puppy

what breed is it,

anyway
must seek some energy

brokenwingedflier · 15/09/2011 12:04

Cairn terrier

substantiallycompromised · 15/09/2011 12:41

brokenwingedflier oh no - I've just read your other thread - what a terrible day and night you've had. You must be expecting the phone call from the vet around now. Sending lots of positive thoughts to you ...hope it is good news.

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 15/09/2011 12:56

Oh no, brokenwinged - what a shock for you. Will go and find your other thread now.

Have just had some very sad news: a friend's DH has lost his battle against cancer. It wasn't entirely unexpected as he was diagnosed nine years ago (six weeks after their DD was born Sad) and when we met them seven years ago, they'd just discovered that the cancer had spread; he's been in and out of hospital and enduring numerous rounds of chemo ever since. Still incredibly sad, though; their DD (a nursery friend of DD1's) is only nine.
