No more messing, my house is full of piles of stuff that I don't need, I am going to be ruthless (i really am!)

Does anyone want to join me? Anyone have any tips or advice?

I need to report, this evening we will be eating our roast chicken at a clear table!! woohoo!!! I've still got more decluttering to do but I'm off work in 3 weeks so I'm going to try and do bits then really get stuck in while I'm off.Well done mogs I've only ever done one boot sale and that was enough for me!!

Hufflepuzzpig · 10/07/2011 15:29

Well done Mogs! Our boot sale went ok too. Slow compared to the last one, but then last time we had better stuff! While we were packing away I separated all the stuff for the charity shop, so it didn't take too long in the afternoon. Gave them nearly 30 kilos of rags too - depressingly that only gets them £19, but it's better than nothing. Wonder how much I've given them altogether considering I donated lots of other rags and books. Also took stuff to the dump. Exhausted now though!

Mousey84 · 10/07/2011 18:59

Im still here - was just on a wee holiday (3 days). You have all been very busy - guess its good to get as much done as possible before the kids get off school! (been off here since end june)

Today I sorted:
craft room - 2 bin bags of fabric and decorations for charitable group that makes preemie blankets etc, but everything else was just organised. Theres a few chairs in there needing painted, and one needs the seat re-padded and re-covered, so Ill get that done in next few days as they take up too much floor space.

utility room - usually very on top of laundry, so no issue there, but recycling and out door stuff tends to get dumped there a lot.

laundry room - a teeny room upstairs that often looks like a clothes bomb went off. Sorted stuff to be put away and ironed. Ironing tonight.

bathroom cabinet - started clearing out but got bored so having a break to come online.

Bin lorry parks closeby on Monday nights so getting as much junk together as I can, since my parents are kindly driving the stuff there for me, and mum also offered to do a charity shop run. (I dont drive)

mogs0 · 10/07/2011 19:50

Right, I need a kick up the whatsit...have lost motivation and the house still looks a tip!

I have 3 hours before I'm going to force myself into bed for an early night but where do I start...maybe by getting off MN Grin

Hufflepuzzpig · 11/07/2011 08:31

Today I am caught between being Exceedingly Tired and not wanting to lose the momentum we've built up over the last few weeks. Now the boot fair is done and we got rid of lots of other stuff, I feel like if we stop now we won't start again for months...

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 11/07/2011 09:25

Come on everyone! The day is upon us and the sun is high in the sky...

so after my Mammoth bedroom tidying session last week I have now organised to have the carpets in the lounge and downstairs bedroom cleaned - along with the curtains in my bedroom. So today I will be cleaning downstairs, removing 'small items' from both rooms and attempting to pull out our L shaped sofa to hoover behind it. God knows what gems I shall find there, maybe a new civilisation. Has to be done otherwise tomorrow I will be mortified when the man comes to clean!

That is motivation in itself! Grin

lizardqueenie · 12/07/2011 13:37

Ooh coffee let me know how u get on with the carpet cleaning man. Would be good to have ours done- especially the hallyway. Any idea how much it usually costs?

Hufflepuzzpig · 12/07/2011 17:12

Oh gawd yes the carpets, shudder.

Haven't done much today, been a rough few days healthwise :( will do a bit of tidying tonight as a friend is visiting tomorrow morning, then DH and I will be sorting out all the DCs' clothes now that the boot fair is over (we had to borrow the Trofast buckets to display what we were selling).

Had another delivery of Really Useful Boxes today - little ones this time. I'm getting obsessed. Must avoid Hobbycraft website. Blush

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 13/07/2011 09:31

Oh jeez, my back is killing me today. Think it has all caught up with me. Sad

The carpets are nice and clean - OMFG the muck that came out of them, I was mortified. It is the dogs, he said so; and they havent been cleaned since they went down. (4 years) The pile is back to as new and the colour has lifted.

It cost £70 for both rooms and my silk curtains in our bedroom, which he said werent dirty, just dusty.

Anyway, the downstairs smells fresher, stairgates now up again to stop dogs coming into lounge and going upstairs (not that they were allowed anyway).

Off to have a look at hobbycraft and will blame all purchases on fuzzy

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 13/07/2011 09:32

Sorry, meant to say - although the carpet cleaning was amazing, it really isnt something that I couldnt have done had my back not been bad. Hiring one of those industrial cleaners from wherever hires them out (morrisons?) would have worked just as well I think.

Hufflepuzzpig · 13/07/2011 12:35

We need an oven cleaner session as well really. I was a bit disappointed I didn't win a free one in the school raffle - though I did win a Swedish massage so can complain :o

Lazy morning here as friend couldn't come over - my DS has finally got chicken pox! DSD coming tonight to try our new game (got Friends Scene It, virtually untouched in charity shop for under £2... Looked on amazon and it's going for £40 Shock) but before she arrives I'm sorting out the clothes. Seems to have turned into a mammoth task in just a few days, same as the kitchen which DH did this morning.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 13/07/2011 15:49

Yes to oven cleaning! Did mine a couple of months ago with oven pride (amazing) but it only really did the first couple of layers.

We have a Hoover/carpet washer and it is great. Don't really need the washer bit these days as we have pulled the carpet up downstairs.

Declutter has stalled a bit due to our black bin being missed last week so I am very careful about what gets thrown until it is emptied!

Hufflepuzzpig · 13/07/2011 15:54

I'm sitting upstairs staring at all the clothes I need to sort out. Seriously can't be arsed. Am feeling exceedingly meh.

And I have run out of Pepsi max so no caffeine hit for me :(

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 13/07/2011 16:16

Set a timer for 2mins? It may help

FuzzpigFourFiveSix · 16/07/2011 10:33

Hmmph, this thread had fallen off TIO.

How's everyone doing? I have lost the will to live motivation since the boot fair. DS is really ill with the chicken pox, even worse than DD was, so we are all having sleepless nights and he's very clingy.

But we've just had a letter saying our (very nice) landlords want to inspect. OH FUCK.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 17/07/2011 11:49

Sorry, DH has been away so have had my step-mum staying so not a lot going on, but erm.....oh yes i got rid of some magazines last week Grin and i have found the timer on my phone so try to set it for 2mins and go through random piles, very slow progress, but still going the right way.

This week i AM going to tackle our bedroom. The top of or chest of drawers is chocka block with crap, one corner is piled up with books, another has got our pictures from the dining room still, there is the baby swing in taking up a huge bit of floor, the wardrobe canot fit anymore clothes in and the mantel piece is a dumping ground. Not to mention under the bed My motivation? The tester pot of paint to go on the wall Grin

lizardqueenie · 18/07/2011 12:58

Hi everyone! We've been a sick household too DD has been teething like mad & picked up a stomach bug on the way. Think she is over the worst one but GP said today no milk for 24 hours. Good job she likes toast & porridge.

Have been doing bits of decluttering here & there- got rid of a load of crap on my dressing table & in our bathroom- just chucked all the bottles of stuff I wasn't using & it cleared a lot of space. Also got rid of old magazines. Smile

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 19/07/2011 07:28

Sorry to hear you have been poorly :(

Today is bin day -hurray! (if you remember we (dh) forgot to put it out so it has been 4weeks!) I have got bags and boxes of stuff to go in it.

Yesterday I got a large carrier bag of crap out of my bedroom, will do the same today - little steps, it does seem to work.

I have also got dd a little organisers thingy with draws for her arty stuff, in the hope she will stop already pens and pencils all over the bloody house!

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 19/07/2011 14:24

Just finished clearing the top of our chest of drawers (apart from some heavy stuff I need help with) also cleared out one corner of Under The Bed!

Ds is now awake and the kids are driving me up the bloody wall

Mousey84 · 20/07/2011 17:38

Whens the inspection Fuzzpig? And Im sorry to hear about all the poorly kids :(

Ive been side tracked by study (assignment due tomorrow, but its finished other than last read-over and formatting..woohoo!)

I still have a car load of stuff for the dump sitting, and behind that is heaps of stuff for local church sale. Once I get the dump stuff carted off, Ill need to arrange for someone to come collect the sale stuff (I dont drive)

Other than the craft / card making stuff, I really dont have any really cluttered spots left now - just need to make sure it doesnt build up again, and see if I can weed out any extra bits as I go.

mogs0 · 20/07/2011 19:16

Summer holidays have almost arrived at 'chez mogs' so I'm getting myself in the right frame of mind to get some more clutter cleared.

I'm trying to persuade ds to get some more things together for another car boot sale but he's positive that everything has already gone Hmm.

We're supposed to be going away on the weekend but I'm putting it off until Monday so that we can squeeze in a boot sale this weekend - I have plenty of stuff to take even if ds hasn't!!

Littlepurpleprincess · 21/07/2011 10:09

Hello. I'm about 5 pages behind on this thread. I'm not doing very well with DS's room. We have so many toys that I can't get rid of because I'm a childminder, and I don't have a loft.

What I have done with the bricks, Mega blocks and Brio is half the amount we've got which obviously halves the amount of space they take up, and the kids haven't even noticed!

It's the last day of school today so I can ditch the mountain of school uniform asap, and his PJs, who needs 10 pairs of PJs in this heat?

Hope you're all feeling better. Smile

mogs0 · 21/07/2011 19:30

Littlepurple - I'm a cm too and find the amount of toys quite unmanageable sometimes. Ds used to have the biggest collection of train track but, now he's too old for it, we just have a figure of 8 and a wooden road set. I haven't quite brought myself to get rid of the many Thomas trains but did ebay quite a few ELC wooden cars/lorries last Christmas.

I'm only working until 1pm tomorrow so plan to spend the afternoon and all day Saturday sorting things out to take to car boot.

Also, I've just invited half a dozen friends round for a take-away on Saturday night so the pressure is on to make the house presentable!!

Littlepurpleprincess · 22/07/2011 07:37

It's all the baby stuff that gets in the way as its just so BIG. I don't have a loft or a basement. I've got 5 car seats and I don't even own a car! I swapped the highchair for a booster seat at the table so that takes up a lot less space.

Halving the toys worked well but now I've got to put it all on ebay.

mogs0 · 22/07/2011 20:34

I've recently got rid of ds' carseats as they were quite old and replaced them with 2 seats which have removable harnesses so, in theory, they're the only seats I'll need.

I do have a major weakness for buggies though and currently have 3 lined up by my front door. I'd like to sell one of them but i know i wouldn't get very much for it at the moment so I'd rather keep hold of it.

Haven't done any decluttering yet this afternoon but might try and do a bit this evening.
