Welcome to the May edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread. Thank you to Nettie for her splendid leadership of last month's thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat babysteps and do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, tea, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Walk was lovely, although I ended up vaulting a gate at the speed of lightening when confronted with field full of sheep who seemed to take a dislike to me. Hmm

LOts of you enjoying the bank holiday today by the look of it.

oh yes, where are you in Greece Imnobody? We are going to Kefalonia in July and last month for DSs 15th birthday he asked for a "teach yourself Greek" course. SO far he has done far more of that than his GCSE work (Dont tell Ellie ). He can now confidently meet and greet and introduce himself and ask for 12 pints of beer!! Shock Hmm Grin - His theory in asking for 12 is that he and DH can drink them and he wont have to ask again as he wont remember the greek when he has had a few!! Hmm Hmm Hmm

Washing is all completed, although ironing will be finished in the morning before school.
Kitchen is fairly good immaculate!
Rabbits, cats, DCs and DH all fed and watered so a successful day completed. Feet up now Grin

Back to work tomorrow Sad

Evening all,

Well, nearly all the unpacking is done now, just one crate of camping bits to go back to the shed tomorrow and sleeping bags / packing bags up to the loft. The DCs have kept saying how much they enjoyed it, I really enjoyed getting them away from the telly. Wii and computer for a couple of days (did keep an eye on the real world via Iphone), so good all round.

Managed 3 lots of washing dry on the line too, such was the wind today, seems to have died down now. Tomorrow I am accompanying DD's class on a trip to a local farm, so I have been finding wellies etc.

Glad so many of you have been having a lovely weekend, Swan - you have made me feel like heading off to York, I have relatives there (all over Yorkshire in fact) that I don't see often enough, and York is such a nice place. I get most of my campsite info from either MN (the review bit as well as the camping talk bit) + the UKcampsites website.

PA - glad DS is getting on well with his Greek lessons! We are going to France at half term, and DD suddenly piped up with "un glace s'il vous plait" the other day, she has obviously been paying attention at school.

Linzer - thank you for the roundup.

I'm very tired, so off to bed, night night.

Scatty wow yes, didn't read the Guardian this Sat (only thrillersWink and usually don't read Money section Blush
She's made it! Teamonster if you are reading hurrah!

Yep, £50 can be done, if wine is left out of equation. But I've given up as DH always always spoils things (or improves things) with takeaway at some point, undoing all my efforts at thrift. So it saves more money if I have something he regards as exciting in house.
Interesting also that baking your own bread can save a lot too.
A man was tryng to live on £5 in Guardian yesterday was it?, and I was amazed how hopeless he was, buying things like 10 slices of cooked sliced ham instead of a sack of potatoes or rice or even lentils and onions. But, I suppose it is easy to think one could do better when you don't actually have to live on £5 Blush

swanriver · 02/05/2011 23:13

My exciting thriller seems to have been made into a television drama, which we caught this evening. DH and I have both read it now, so we were greatly amused by the changes they had made to make it TV friendly. Brunette becomes blonde, expert on venetian marshes becomes a hotel manager, Arts and Craft house becomes a white modernist dream. How very odd television is.

Morning all. Here are today's links:

The babystep is to continue what we've been doing so far, i.e. shining our sinks and getting dressed to our lace-up shoes (or not, if - like me - you don't do that particular babystep).

Today's mission is to spend 15 minutes in the hall putting things away.

Tuesday is a free day in FlyLady's Basic Weekly Plan (don't forget to water your plants!), although I do part of my weekly home overhaul on a Tuesday.

Have been back from the school run for an hour and have so far only managed to empty the dishwasher. Blush Having a "quick" look at active convos is never a good idea. Have a friend coming over for coffee in just over an hour and I really must get my morning routine finished before then; it's doable, but only if I stay off MN.

swan Which thriller did you read? I bought Into the Darkest Corner on the strength of all the rave reviews on MN; it was def. a very gripping read (I read it in a day), although I've found Nicci French, for example, equally gripping.

Morning all!

I can confidently say that I will do no flying today so am going to place myself in the naughty corner right now to save time later Grin. I am only teaching 2 lessons out of 5 today and am about to sit down with a huge pile of coursework marking and administration and after that I have parent's evening until 7. Also need to spend some time with my Year 11's at lunchtime doing some revision

Had an absolutely fabulous weekend. The weather was lovely, if little chilly, and much fun and family time was had. The point of being at the caravan is that there is nowhere to escape to...i HAVE to spend time with the children Grin.

Happy 1st Birthday to livelong's DS.

dwm dem is indeed still around, she hasn't posted yet this month as I think she has technical issues, you'll soon guess who she is when she does Grin.

sr £50 can be done I agree. I can do it when I have no nappies/toiletries/cleaningstuff to buy. Pure food I can do it. Having said that the DC's don't eat at home during the week as have lunch/tea at school/cm's so that may be cheating a little Grin.

Better go and get on with this marking.

Might get back on later if parent's evening doesn't drag too much.

Piriton worked wonders! DS2 slept through till midnight, requested another dose (he likes it Smile), then slept through till 9am! As did I. And DS1. Poor DH was up and out of the door for work by 7.

DS2 is much, much better today. His spots are beginning to heal over and he is very cheery. He is busy playing in the garden at the moment, making a home for his new pets (three woodlice - one of them is dead, but I don't think he's noticed yet Confused).

Have surveyed the wreck of my house in dismay this morning. I need a 'to do' list, but it is more of a wish list, really, as I have to help DS1 revise for SATs next week and DS2 will need attention at the most inconvenient moments, I'm sure. Luckily, DS1 is doing Mathswhizz on the computer at the moment, so I can count that as revision without getting involved.

OK... .. here goes:

Dress done - always makes me feel better putting that down!
B/fasts done
S&S
D/w - unload
D/w - reload
W/m
Kitchen - room rescue (will take longer than 15mins, I'm sure)
Shine sink
Kitchen hotspot
Put some washing away
Mission - my hall really needs attention today
Sitting room - 15 min room rescue
Bedroom - 15 minute room rescue
Dry clothes
Lunch

Am stopping there, as I think that may take me all day, fitted round the two DC. Will have to sit down and go through some Maths/English stuff with DS1 at some stage.

Linzer - you are doing a great job! Thanks for your round ups. I really don't have time to read through the thread at the moment, so they are very useful. Glad for you to hear your DC are back at school (they only had a short Easter break, didn't they?).

Waves to everyone else, regulars and newbies, and thank you all for the tips on chickenpox.

Had a lovely morning catching up with a British friend who I hadn't met up with properly for over six years. Only a fellow expat can appreciate the absurdity of an Austrian commentator reporting that "Mr Bean was at Diana's funeral" and "Mr Bean is a close personal friend of Prince Charles'" (DH just said, "Yes, well, no one would know Rowan Atkinson's name here").

My running gear has arrived! So I really don't have any more excuses left... apart from the fact that I have a MN running buddy who can't start until next Monday and I feel it would be only polite to wait for her. Grin

My Babyliss Big Hair has also just arrived; I'm sure I wouldn't spend half as much money if it wasn't for MN (wouldn't have heard of BBH, let along bought it, if it hadn't been for MN). I really don't need big hair, but apparently it makes your hair swishy rather than big. My hair generally doesn't do swishy, so I hope it lives up to expectations.

Toffee So glad to hear your DS is feeling better; the first few days of chickenpox are definitely the worst, I found.

swan I keep reading about Sophie Hannah on MN and meaning to try her. Have just finished Brooklyn, which I enjoyed more than I was expecting to (don't know why I wasn't expecting to).

linzer and nettie thanks for letting me know the flylady is going to help as much as i think she is ! at work today and I can see how it will be harder to get stuff doen when I'm home after tea and wanting to catch up with the kids and relax. Dh and dd at home so who knows what state my lovely shiny sink will be tonight. However I'm thinking this system might also help me to get Dh and Ds and Dd involved in helping rounbd the house more rather than me just stewing in resentment then blowing up at them every now and then. To be fair ds and dd are pretty good at putting their stuff away and they're only 5 and 2 but dh is a nightmare
