Welcome to the May edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread. Thank you to Nettie for her splendid leadership of last month's thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, tea, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Hi CheerfulYank! Enjoy decluttering into the dumpster!

CheerfulYank · 10/05/2011 18:54

It's actually embarrassing how excited I am to begin chucking things into it Blush

scattyspice · 10/05/2011 18:57

missJ good luck with the moving! Hope the medical tests go ok.
Toffee nearly 1/2 way through the week, hope you can keep going.
Hi everyone else.

To do:
school/work - done
DS judo - done
put away clothes - done
banking - done
change DC beds - done
dust - tomorrow.

Need to find the kids and move them in the direction of bed.

droitwichmummy · 10/05/2011 20:33

Hi there

There's alot of moving house, unblocking pipes, and medical appointments on here today! Hope everyone is on the mend and that the SATs are going well for the year 6s. DS is year 2 so his are sometime but the school are really low key about them so I wouldn't know if they have happened or not unless DS mentions somethingSmile

Not much flying here for the last 2 days - did a really long day at work yesterday and I'm too tired today to do more than unload & reload the DW and stick a load of washing in the machine! Am going to do the mission though and I did clean the hob yesterday so I did achieve something. Couldn't shine my sink as there was too much washing up for the DW but hopefully I should be able to find it tonight having been to the chip shop for teaGrin

Thought I would have to go to London for work tomorrow but I don't so working from home for the next 2 days which will help.

See you in the morning - I'll leave you some Wine

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/05/2011 20:55

Evening all,

Lots of busy / poorly people on here

SC good luck with the Communion preparation

Toffee - hang on in there, cold sores really bring me down, they do seem to come along at busy and stressful times

MissJ - well done for getting stuck into the washing machine repairs

DWM - chips, yum!

Yank - decluttering big time!

Cinders - I haven't got that key on my keyboard

PMPY - I bought more than I got rid of today Blush

Swan - please enlighten us as to how Glee inspired you to hoover your bedroom yesterday? It has been puzzling me all day (have never watched Glee but didn't think it related to housework)

Linzer - great job with the links and other info, thank you.

Apuski - DHs to get in the way don't they? I try and send mine out with the DCS for an hour or two at least once over the weekend so I can just get on with stuff, either that or let them all watch Sky Sports together.

Waves at everyone else. Not much Flying here today, went to work, did some shopping, school run, an hour of DD being at ballet, tea, homework, bed for DCs. Off to do my ironing in front of the Apprentice in a minute. Night all!

BlueEyeshadow · 10/05/2011 21:33

Hope all the SATs go well and are over with soon, and get well soon to all the poorly peeps.

It's my birthday tomorrow and then we're going on holiday. Yay! Intending to do a mega quick house bleugh and then DH and I are going out to lunch before launching into packing. We're going to the IOW for a week with DH's family which has been in the planning for so long I can't believe it's nearly here. Looking forward to it though. Grin

swanriver · 10/05/2011 21:46

Done
plant watering in the twilight (glad I got the right day!)
have almost beaten the laundry monster back into its lair Smile
loads of ironing
horrid supper Wink stirfry doesn't really work for more than two people does it, steam fry more like
two boys to football
one girl appreciated her decluttered/tidy room and started sewing in it Smile
swept yard
recycling out for tomorrow as we are off to the pyschotherapist very early Toffee - first visit for twins, although dd has been there, but not actually talked to pytpst. Yes, SATs was about someone who didn't stop talking for 9 hours? I think.

table wiped
plates in dw

MsJ how exciting to move (although probably doesn't feel like it at the moment, hope your parents are being helpful, in the right way) Are you still in Scotland after move?
Whoknows I meant I felt able to face hoovering after Glee, always feel re-energised
Cheerful enjoy your skip

Now I am going to read, TES, ....Gazette (local gossip) and The Irish Times, just to get a rounded view of the world Smile

LinzerTorte · 10/05/2011 21:47

Taking a quick break from work to post the round-up (apologies for any mistakes; I'm struggling to stay awake).

scatty flew by with a list, which she later completed (dusting aside).

Cinders had baked bread, was looking forward to her mum?s visit and her DH was wreaking havoc in the garden.

Janey was back on the bandwagon and about to tackle the mission.

swan gave up on getting to grips with her garden and decluttered instead (throwing things away sounds good to me ? my decluttering far too often ends up turning into rearranging and tidying)

SC is lacking in iron and therefore energy, but looking forward to her DD?s first communion.

missjulie is getting ready for a house move and also being kept busy with hospital appointments.

Toffee is still under the weather, also busy with medical appointments, looking forward to the end of SATs and learning new maths technniques (I have been very confused by the Austrian version of long division ? called ?written division? ? this week).

Blue showed off her mastery of the keyboard and is looking forward to her birthday and holiday.

PMPY has been to the tip and promptly bought more stuff (but I?m sure it was nicer stuff than went to the tip).

CheerfulYank was celebrating the arrival of her dumpster.

DWM has been to the chip shop and left wine (for the thread, not at the chip shop).

WhoKnows was about to watch the Apprentice. Envy (I shall be watching later rather than sooner, as my parents are recording it for us, so once again will have to try to avoid all Apprentice talk on the Internet).

Linzer homework makes me so mad, when I can't put dcs to bed at decent hour because of it; it doesn't seem right. Ds2 did his homework this morning, in about 10 minutes flat after breakfast, at least in the morning it seems to be easier for him to concentrate, but it isn't very restful trying to get it done whilst dd is delibarately interrupting. She has a particularily annoying habit of deciding to practise the violin (most unusual Shock) because she wants to take the attention away from ds2... Anyway roll on the twin therapist ...we really need one...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/05/2011 22:01

Blue Happy Birthday and have a great hol, we went there last year and liked it so much we are going again this year.

LinzerTorte · 10/05/2011 22:04

swan Even with DS not around (he stays at kindergarten till mid-afternoon), the DDs are constantly distracting each other while doing their homework - one usually starts singing/humming and the other claims she can't concentrate.

It's partly my own fault for not getting them home earlier today, though. The friend we went to visit just will not stop feeding the DC - we went there for ice cream, but she started making pancakes as soon as they'd finished the ice cream, and as soon as those had all gone, started making pasta and pizza. It feels very rude saying we have to leave when she's still preparing food, but I think I really do need to be more assertive.

Work finished, but must now proofread it. Am feeling quite guilty about having spent absolutely no time with DH this evening (and have also been quite bad-tempered with him, very unfairly), as he's going to be away for the next few days.

IOW is lovely Smile I think we have a fledgling living there as well Grin

pushmepullyou · 10/05/2011 22:34

Sympathies Linzer - I am working too. QA of other people's reports. Not my most fascinting evening ever!

LinzerTorte · 10/05/2011 22:56

Work is finally finished and sent off; hope you don't have to stay up too late PMPY (it's now almost midnight here).

I've never been to the IOW but it seems to be a veritable fledgling hotspot; I know of at least two fledglings who will be visiting in the summer apart from the permanent fledgling resident. Grin

Aargh, must avoid Facebook for the next however many weeks, particularly on Apprentice nights. I've just found out the gender of the first candidate to go, although not the actual name thankfully.

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 10/05/2011 22:57

Btw what's QA, PMPY?

OP posts:
pushmepullyou · 10/05/2011 23:35

Quality assurance, so basically proof reading and correcting other people's work. It is NOT fascinating!

LinzerTorte · 11/05/2011 04:46

I really should have known that, as I've translated a few texts about quality assurance - not for ages, though. Thanks for the explanation, PMPY!

It somehow took me another hour to get to bed after my last post. Hmm I'm hoping this morning's run will wake me up. Back in a sec with the links.

Today?s babystep is to add an inspirational page to your control journal.

The mission is to clean out your fridge.

Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day. This is the day to have a look at your to-do list, see which items are coming up day after day, and finally do them.

It is also Zone Clean and Partial Desk Time; no. 3 on the list is covered by today?s mission.

Finally, here is this week?s pamper mission. I shall definitely try to do this one tonight and tomorrow night, when DH is away (definitely the early night with a good book part at any rate; I?m not quite so sure about the silk nightie. Grin)

OP posts:
PositiveAttitude · 11/05/2011 06:39

Good morning ladies. Smile

Mission must be done today, fridge in dire need of a clean out.

Hey, BES, you are coming to the wonderful IOW!!! Grin Have a lovely time and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Do your in-laws live here?
Glad there are so many positive messages about the good 'ol Island!

House is nicely hoovered after having a burst of energy yesterday Confused Washing/ironing still being a bug bear though. Sad

Not going to do a list today as DH is off work and I am hoping we will be going out for lunch after I finish work and we will have a relaxing afternoon. Wink

Have a good day everyone.

feetheart · 11/05/2011 07:13

Morning all.

Sick boy back to school today. In fine form yesterday and SO ready to go back :)
Quick list today:

  • Tidy, dust and declutter living room as have lovely surrogate granny neighbour coming round and her house is a decluttered haven - mostly done as got up at 6am with DH. Just need to relocate some piles and remove hideous ornament to loft!
  • All up and out (DH already gone as has breakfast networking meeting)
  • Back quickly to wait for cooker engineer (8am-5pm call-out Angry)
  • Coffee and chat with neighbour
  • Some work
  • School Assoc stuff - posters and info for Car boot sales, Insurance checked, school booked, etc
  • Mission plus menu plan, shopping list, etc
  • Sort photos with DD - try and persuade her that she can NOT scrapbook all 130 photos that she took on trip to aquarium Hmm

That's more than enough though might plant sweet-peas if get the chance. Want to try them along the low wire fence between us and neighbours, just going to plant the seeds there and see what happens - my sort of gardening :)

Happy Flying one and all.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/05/2011 08:00

Hey PMPY you can't say that! I work in QA and love it! Although most of my colleagues think I'm completely mad, so you could have a point....

Back later.

scattyspice · 11/05/2011 08:22

Morning all.

Good luck with twin psych swan hope you get some good advice/insights.

Where is IOW? Hope you have a good time there blueeyes.

I have a friend who is a 'feeder' linzer DC love it! Her DS always seems a bit disappointed when he comes to us though Hmm.

Today:
DS to school (with swim kit)
DD to growth clinic (fingers crossed they d/c her, I'm sure she's catching up)
home for lunch
dd to school
catch up with some work
collect dc (find ds jumpers and sandwich box)
beavers/rainbows (request another letter re trip)
usual routines
dust Hmm

BBL

janeyjampot · 11/05/2011 08:45

Happy birthday Blue - hope you have a good holiday.

I managed yesterday's mission and today's looks promising, too, especially as there seems to be something yellow and sticky under my salad drawer which could do with closer investigation. The DDs are really enthusiastic about cooking since they started it at secondary school, and they often help/take control of dinner, which is fantastic, but their putting away and tidying up afterwards leaves a lot to be desired. Still, I am grateful for the help.

I have meetings every night this week which are seriously getting in the way of keeping up with this thread Grin

Someone came over for last night's meeting and actually ran his finger along the top of one of my pictures Blush Angry Sadly there was quite a lot of dust on it as it was in the downstairs loo - not somewhere I ever think to dust even though I am religious about Swish & Swipe...

Waves to all...

LinzerTorte · 11/05/2011 08:46

Feeling much more awake now after my second C25k run. DH waking me in the middle of the night to ask who was crying didn't exactly make for a good night's sleep either (it was DS who, as always, wanted DH). DH claimed in the morning that he'd had to wake me as he thought he was still in the Ukraine and couldn't understand why there was a child crying. Hmm

This morning's list - must get off MN and get on with it:

C25k done
Morning routine
Wash/BBH hair
Prepare English lesson
Send birthday cards, drawings and kindergarten photo to my mum
Mission
15 min decluttering
Invoice agency

scatty The DC love my friend (and her constant feeding) too, which makes it even harder to get away! I was quite relieved to see that her DD (who will be here for lunch today) also scrapes the entire topping off her mum's pizzas too.
