Welcome to the May edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread. Thank you to Nettie for her splendid leadership of last month's thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, tea, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Tip men greeted me like an old mate today. It's the start of a beautiful relationship! I'm keeping up and can see things are changing. Too tired to keep up with posts though! Children asleep and I need to veg in front of the tv

ApuskiDusky · 09/05/2011 21:51

Hello all! Well, it turns out I need tips on how to stick to the routine when it's the weekend, as it has all gone to pot here with DH around! And he's at home on Fridays too. We take it in turns to have a lie in, so on my sleeping in day nothing gets done before we go out for the day. So, how does the weekend work for you?

CheerfulYank · 09/05/2011 22:36

Not very well tbh. :( But I am hoping someone else has good ideas so we can both learn from them :)

I am having a rough time at the moment. It just seems like there's so much stuff in this house and it's driving me mad!!!!! I have ordered a dumpster that is coming tomorrow! YAY! Hopefully that will help, but I know I just really need to be ruthless. Sigh...

BlueEyeshadow · 09/05/2011 22:41

Quite a productive day. It turns out that I'm ahead of the game on Wednesday's mission - had a leak at the back of the fridge so was forced to clean it out! Grin

Tomorrow:
Laundry
Putting away - tons to catch up on
Library
Work
Back up PC
wipe down cabinets

No time to read the whole thread, so waves madly and retires tired.

droitwichmummy · 09/05/2011 22:42

Weekends are tough with DH and DS around - maybe that's why the flylady lets us off missions on Saturdays and Sundays Wink I get far more done in the week even though I work FT but then DH works early shifts so goes to bed really early and is out when its still the middle of the night so he's not in my way!

swanriver · 09/05/2011 22:46

nothng much to add, except
waves at clutter munching Cheerful and weekend routines going to pot Aspuduski very similar here Blush

Yay for your school garden, my radishes are so slow...

and there are clean sheets on all our beds, summer weight blankets on ours, and I've hoovered our bedroom, inspired by Glee..

LinzerTorte · 10/05/2011 04:48

Good morning everyone,

The babystep today is all about FlyLady?s motto: you can do anything for 15 minutes. FlyLady suggests setting your timer for 15 minutes and gathering up all the rubbish you can in that time and putting it in the dustbin, and then (this is the part I like) setting your timer for another 15 minutes and sitting down to read a magazine.

Today?s mission is to wipe down the doors of your kitchen cupboards.

I?d always thought that Tuesday was a free day in FlyLady land, but have just discovered that we?re supposed to be planning the following week on Tuesdays. We are then allowed to have fun. Grin More information here.

children to school
ds2 homework
washing in

todo
beds
sink
tidy bathrooms
mission
piano - start new piece
money for singing lessons give to friend...
deal seriously with garden again

go to tip with pile of garden rubbish, as neck now almost uncricked (thank you for your kind words LadyinPink)
go to B & Q to get more plants. My seeds have not flourished alas (4 cosmos seedlings only Hmm although lots of sweet peas for the sunny pots, so I am going to have to invest in some smart looking plants for the dark alley, which is so depressingly like Steptoe's Yard and needs to be a terrace. So far it has two enormous bamboos in pots, which I love, but it feels a bit of a muddle.
And I still need to get some more purple gravel for the front.

Stillchuckingit · 10/05/2011 12:42

missjulie · 10/05/2011 14:29

Hi all. Have been awol, again, for too long. Not even going to try and attempt to catch up on the thread! Sorry! Am up to my eyeballs here! We are moving house in a few weeks, and am midst packing. DH left for work on Saturday, and may not be home for the house move! Had 2 hospital appts last week, and am now awaiting MRI for my suspected abdominal hernia, and electrical tests for my ongoing pins and needles! It all happens at once!
The house i like a bomb has gone off, and is even worse with all the packing!
done tidied DD room, bathroom, cleaned bathroom, hoovered whole house. DD & I fed, watered etc.
Washing machine seems to not be draining properly, so am off to try and sort that, then attempt to make the kitchen look like a kitchen again!
Hope all is well with everyone.
Hope to catch up with you later. xx

Toffeefudgecake · 10/05/2011 14:55

Have also been awol. RL has been so busy that I haven't had time to do any MNetting. Not enough sleep, fighting off a virus and have a cold sore coming up Sad. DS is doing his SATs all week (at home), which has been a good incentive to keep the downstairs and bathroom tidy, if nothing else. In addition to that, it seems to be a week filled with dental and doctor's appointments for the DC.

Am trying to take the SATs with a pinch of salt, Swan! I shall be very relieved when they are all over. I'm going to aim for a relaxing home ed week next week to make up for this one.

MissJ - sounds like you are having a frantically busy and stressful time. Good luck with it all and hope your MRI goes well.

No time to scan the rest of the thread, I'm afraid - off to get DS2 from school and whisk him down to the drs. That is, if I can get DS1 out of his bedroom where he has just stormed after I told him I was taking him to a hypnotherapist on Thursday. He's not happy about it.

Waves to all!

BlueEyeshadow · 10/05/2011 16:12

I can do ü too - no continental keyboard though. Wink

Meant to be working though, so will catch up later.

missjulie · 10/05/2011 17:14

Poor you toffee, hope you are soon feeling better. Sounds like you too are midst a stressful time. Thank you for the good wishes.

done list since last here earlier
Had look at washing machine, put on several spins, and even another full wash, still not draining! Grrr! Took off front panel, doesn't seem to have a filter!!! Been looking on-line for help, looks like i need to take pipes apart etc and check for blockages! - a job for tomorrow i think!!!
Have tidied kitchen, and got it back to looking like a kitchen again! Cleaned the surfaces too. Midst making some mince and tatties for DD & I.
Just sat down for a wee rest!

Not sure have much motivation left to do much else today in the house!

At least i have done more than i have done lately!

pushmepullyou · 10/05/2011 17:28

Oh dear SC and TC Sad . hope you are both feelin better soon.

Not doing brilliantly flying-wise here atm. Washing and dishwasher is generally about my limit, but I did manage to go to the tip this morning, so a bit of decluttering getting done. Ruined it slightly by going shopping after and buying more 'stuff'. Heigh-ho!

pushmepullyou · 10/05/2011 17:30

Linzer - isn't Tuesday plant watering ( Hmm ) day as well?

LinzerTorte · 10/05/2011 18:14

PMPY You're right - I know I mentioned watering the plants last week, but it slipped my mind this morning. As Tuesday is a free day, there are only two things on FlyLady's list for today: water and fertilize plants, and spend 15 minutes in the current zone. Unless you go by the link I posted this morning, in which case we should be menu planning, planning date nights and family fun days, checking prescriptions to be filled, etc. Apologies if I'm confusing anyone (am feeling rather Confused myself)!

Am also feeling rather stressed as we've only just got back from a friend's house, it's gone 7 pm and DD1 still hasn't finished her homework (I normally aim to have the DC in bed by 7 pm) and I have work to do for tomorrow morning as well as tomorrow's English lesson to prepare. Needless to say, DH still isn't back to help out with bedtime. Will be back later.

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 10/05/2011 18:42

Hope everyone feels better soon!

I've done:
Up/dressed/coffeed/out the door at 7:45
Swish n swipe
Make beds

I still need to:
Wash dishes and shine sink
Continue my long, trudging march in the war against the laundry monster
Mission
Dinner
Go to other job

Guess what?! My dumpster was delivered today! YAHOO!!!!

Toffeefudgecake · 10/05/2011 18:47

MissJ - am very impressed at your practical skills - I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to begin if the w/m broke down (well, I do - DH first, then a plumber!).

PMPY - well done on the decluttering!

Linzer - sorry to hear you are stressed too and have work to do. I am very, very grateful that I don't have any work at the moment, I must say.

Have taken DC to the drs (one of DS2's chickenpox spots is infected - yuck. It's behind his ear and because it's been irritating him, he's been picking at it. Sorry if TMI!). Then home where DS1 decided he could show DS2 how to make real lemonade using bicarbonate of soda, sugar and a lemon. They had a lot of fun - the lemonade was very frothy (looked more like beer!). Then multiplication revision with DS1 because he has forgotten (or never knew Hmm) how to use the 'grid method'. I must say, I'm learning all sorts of useful maths techniques at the moment.

How did the SATs go for your DS today, Swan? I know they had to write a newspaper report involving 'persuasive language'. I'm dreading the maths tomorrow. I know it shouldn't matter, but DS really struggles with it. I will be so happy when this is all over - as will DS.

Anyway, on with the bedtime routines now....
