do you do anything while ironing?

Hi,

Im after ideas.

Usually when I iron I listed to some music, this keeps me from going insanely tired as ironing always makes me tired. However, I have lost my Ipod. I know where I would have put it, but its not there. I think my cats must have knocked it off from the side. Yes I know I should take better care of it, but i really cant find it anywhere so now Im stuck. Im in the process of getting my house nice and doing lots of decluttering, but I have only been doing this for a few weeks so still have a long way to go [busad]

I really need to do some ironing later as I have let it slide for a couple of days, but I know without my ipod I will find this really draining. Does anybody else get tired when ironing and if so how do you overcome this?

Thanks

I phone my mum - two dreary tasks completed at once Grin.

Wine

It's the only way.

Pootles2010 · 26/04/2011 14:44

Watch tv...obviously?! The sole benefit of ironing is its the only housework you can do whilst watching tv... apart from sewing knitting etc!

AMumInScotland · 26/04/2011 14:44

Put it in front of the TV

WinkyWinkola · 26/04/2011 14:46

Listen to Radio 4 or the World Service.

I find I can never do just one thing at a time these days. I mean, I can't just sit and watch telly doing nothing else. This is a bit of a problem, methinks.

bigbumum · 26/04/2011 14:47

i watch Eastenders on a Sunday afternoon while doing it.

Its the only trashy telly i watch but it gets me through..

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 26/04/2011 14:47

I've just ironed whilst watching Supernatural series 2 on dvd. You almost don't notice you're ironing.

myhouseWILLbecleanthisyear · 26/04/2011 14:53

Thanks for the suggestions, I did think of TV, but wanted to iron sooner rather than later and the TV will be otherwise occupied. I can put it off till tonight though as there really isnt anything else I can do. Really dont want to iron with no music, but havent really got a choice. I have looked high and low for my ipod and its run away from me. Im not a cruel owner so dont know why it had to leave me.

Wine would be nice if I wasnt PG hahaha maybe lots of Biscuit's might help.

Its making me tired just thinking about it Angry

Thanks again, was surprised to see so many answers this quick.

truthisinthewine · 26/04/2011 16:28

If it's sunny I iron outside in the garden.

Glad you found your iPod.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 26/04/2011 16:33

Tv & budgie.

Both keep me amused whilst I toil and slave.

lenak · 26/04/2011 16:37

DVD's. I had a lot of ironing to do yesterday - got through Dirty Dancing, Lord of the Rings - Fellowship and Two Towers Blush.

Pride & Prejudice and Titanic are also firm ironing favourites!

ilovemilton · 26/04/2011 17:17

i work a late shift whilst my dh does the ironing...
sorry

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 26/04/2011 17:31

I watch Pride and Prejudice too. And dinnerladies.

upahill · 26/04/2011 17:53

i usually listen to Planet Rock.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 26/04/2011 17:54

I watch all my sky plussed programmes that DH moans about - Teen Mom, towie, Casualty etc. High brow ironing.

LillianGish · 26/04/2011 18:01

Always, always, always listen to Radio 4 - in fact I even find myself ironing the tea towels (and things I wouldn't usually bother with) if I'm listening to a good programme.

80sMum · 26/04/2011 18:11

Ironing??

YusMilady · 26/04/2011 18:15

Another vote for Radio 4. I save all my ironing up and do it on Sunday mornings to the Archers Omnibus. I thought everyone else did the same!

Camerondiazepam · 26/04/2011 18:19

I don't do ironing, I find that's the most time-saving option.
But I also can't do 1 thing at a time any more, mainly cos I have to do everything while I'm mumsnetting!

dannyblanchflower · 26/04/2011 18:34

Another sky plus high brow ironer here - yesterday I ironed to the William and Kate channel 5 film!

WinkyWinkola · 26/04/2011 18:46

Sheesh, lenak. How many in your family or are you ironing underpants too? Wink

ShimmeryPixie · 26/04/2011 18:50

My husband watches horror movies. He says that you just can't find anything too scary when trying to get your shirts just right...
