Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Celestialstarlight · 11/03/2011 16:42

I'm having a cba day.

However I have managed to

S/S
swish & wipe
iron a small pile of clothes < ginormous mountain of ironing still hiding in garage/utility though>
met up with friend for coffee and lovely homemade carrot cake...delish!
Collected DS3 from nursery
Got home
Decided I'm not in the mood to do anything
Made a Brew and turned on TV and Shock and [crying emoticon] at events

So i'm just gonna be a lazy mum stay on MN for rest of day and lurk Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/03/2011 16:44

Toffeefudgecake · 11/03/2011 18:39

Celestial - it's hard to think about Flying with current events, I agree Sad.

Alice - your posts are like poetry Smile.

funambulist · 11/03/2011 19:07

Miss Julie so, so glad your DH is okay.

Quick update on my list while the DCs are having tea. DS1 has been on the computer since I got home doing homework (and getting very frustrated in the process) and DS2 wants to use the computer when DS1 is finished. I am going out tonight (the social whirl continues) so may not get the chance to post again today or indeed do much flying. Just to remind myself where I've got to...

Get ready for school pick up done
card and flowers to bereaved friend done
hang out wet washing done
put away dry washing done
hot spot x 1
mark DS1 maths done
cheques to the bank done
various emails not done
put away shopping done
piano practice - I haven't been putting this on my list as I do it so rarely I'm ashamed but feel I should admit that I ought to be doing it after reading swan's posts. not done Blush and Sad, just too hectic today, it always falls off my list.

Got added to the list during the day

Paying for DS1 school trip done
emptying recycling bin sort of hoping DH might do this when he gets back

Have a great weekend all. I'm highly unlikely to get onto MN during the weekend but will be with you all in spirit.

LinzerTorte · 11/03/2011 19:13

I've more or less given up on Flying for the day. DH has got the wine glasses out; the boys are already fast asleep (DS has a friend sleeping over) and the girls have left for their sleepover.

Am still pondering over the Lakeland catalogue and trying to hide the prices from DH (I haven't even mentioned postage). Have proofread 10 pages and my eyes are starting to close. Time to start on the Wine, I think (DH has just informed me that we'll be having a slightly better one than usual). I'm still disappointed about not being able to take part in the MN tasting, though! Smile

AliceimWunderland · 11/03/2011 19:34

MissJulie so glad to hear your DH is OK- What a worrying time that must have been for you.

Thank you Toffee and snot for the advice on DD. I try to keep talking to her form the other room and I am keen to get her used to me leaving but learning i'll be back soon and not abandoning her. Its really hard not to pick her up for cuddles though!. Rod for own back, anyone? My boys were never like this so i'm finding it all quite new.

Am I the only one that would rather have a Brew and a Biscuit than a Wine ? I do drink but not really at home unless we have company.

Quick tidy of dining room done
Quick tidy of kitchen done

swanriver · 11/03/2011 21:19

Wrestling with computer, as I managed to delete everything except the factory settings - but at least I've got rid of the SPAM now, which keeps neighing at me every 5 minutes Confused

Dh is back, I think we both have more grey hairs than three days ago, that's all I can say Grin

However
done
scales
violin forced out of two dcs
playdates x 2 today - lots of lego and football, it went v. well
and....drumroll, I finished all the mouldering leftovers in fridge
and almost finished all the washing
helped SIL( so don't feel quite so guilty as last week)
and have now enough money in my bank account to buy a bathmat, a greenhouse and some holiday tickets [yay!)

MrsSharp · 11/03/2011 21:19

Hello!

Again, I haven't been on for a few days. So sorry. It is tricky to catch up with the thread once you've been off it for a day or so - a bit like trying to jump back on to a treadmill!

I think I've caught up with everything you've all been doing....

MissJulie - so glad that your DH is safe and well. Must have been horrible for you not knowing.

NickNacks - my DS was just like that. Couldn't leave him/put him down. I surrendered myself and the housework to him, so any little bit of FLYing you manage to do, is so much more than I ever did! Well done!

Hope all of you who are feeling poorly and are having early nights, feel better tomorrow!

I started off FLYing so well last week, but this week I've been a bit rubbish. Need to give myself a good shake.

Our builders confirmed that they would be starting on Monday, and I was so overwhelmed with everything I needed to sort out, I kind of grounded to a halt! Hardly helpful! Anyway, builders are now NOT starting on Monday as we have to wait for a Structural Engineer to come round and cnfirm a couple of details, so now I feel a bit calmer and can start to get things sorted and packed up.

Tomorrow I really need to get as much of our kitchen cupboards cleared and boxed up as I have listed our entire kitchen on Ebay. The auction finishes on Sunday and hopefully it will sell. (fingers crossed!)

I ended up doing Monday's Mission twice this week! I washed down all the kitchen units on Monday so I could take pictures for Ebay, and then this morning I found mouse droppings on the work surface, so everything's been disinfected again today. Let's hope the traps work tonight, or else I'll be going for a Mission Hat-trick!

I'm off now to lust after the Lakeland website after all that talk from LinzerTorte!

swanriver · 11/03/2011 21:25

Nicknacks I would just stay in same room, hard though it is and do a room at a time, rather than all the rooms in one day ifysim, I think it is a phase, and they grow out of it, but no point upsetting babies imo Grin always drives one mad tryng to get them to see reason Wink I think they are programmed to want mum in sight at all times.

I remember reading in Penelope Leach how toddlers will wander off all over the place as long as they know mum is in one fixed position, but once mum moves they are completely thrown and start crying, almost as if they are on an invisible thread from fixed point, and they can't start again till they've come back to base. May all be nonsense.

NettieSpaghetti · 11/03/2011 21:32

nick im not much of a drinker, would rather have a diet coke and a cake though Grin

MrsMcJnr · 11/03/2011 21:35

Please can I join you lovely ladies? I join with a clean conscience as I am up todate with my weekly missions in the kitchen. I started FLYing in August last year. Have come so far but still a long way to go!!

MrsSharp · 11/03/2011 21:35

Another one here who chooses tea/diet coke/ chocolate/biscuits/cake over a glass of wine!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/03/2011 21:36

Evening all,

I'm not going to do a full roundup tonight as DH is still at work, the DCs have only just gone to bed and I would like to watch a bit of telly before DH gets back (ETA 11pm). I'm feeling more on top of things downstairs, banning myself from MN during the day has really helped (well, almost, I have had a quick glance at threads I'm on once or twice and clicked to see what was happening to MrJulie but Most Active is banned). I got a lot of my list done today, and one of DD's friends came round after school, they had a lovely time.

DS is having a sleepover in DD's room tonight, I can hear them chatting, it is sweet. Will probably turn to fighting shortly.

Anyway, today, the most important thing has been that MissJulie's DH is safe in the tsunami.

Other than that, Linzer is still browsing Lakeland, we have been threatened with eviction from Good Housekeeping and we have all just had a general nice time chatting amongst ourselves.

Can hear voices getting raised upstairs as the decision on who gets the airbed on the floor ensues....................
