Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Hello ladies! Just popped in to tell you all i am still alive!
What a week!
Feel like poo! DD gave me her cold, and we have both been miserable! :( Feeling very sorry for myself - as is she!
Have only read the round-ups since Tues night! - sorry! Hope everyone is doing well!
Have, understandably, got hardly anything done all week! :(
xx

swanriver · 10/03/2011 21:37

Akond of Swat? Never heard of that...interesting...

Spurred on by talk of poetry I have resolved to read ds1 a poem every evening. And try and question him closely as to its meaning and use of language [dons pinz nez] Anything's better than talking about football league tables!

Tidied three bedrooms done

Well done on finishing the work Toffee

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/03/2011 21:43

Evening Fledglings

Well, I decided I needed to do something about my MN habit. So I have imposed a MN free zone from 9-6, unless I need it to do some actual information gathering as opposed to just idly clicking on Most Active. As a result I have been much more productive today. Whacked though, Thursdays are a busy day.

Linzer enjoyed coffee with a friend this morning

Feetheart was doing her car insurance, did mine last week, still need to change gas and electric supplier and sort out my ISA (boring).

Swan?s computer has been neighing at her and her paperwork is getting her down.

LadyinPink was planning to get stuck in with an old toothbrush

Systems inadvertently told us about her diet, I am not very disciplined in the body clutter department myself Blush. Another one with paper clutter problems.

Funambulist was also coffeeing with friends this morning, and managed to put out her clothes last night, that is a very useful babystep IMO.

Linzer also has paper problems and was justifiably cross with DD?s friend?s parents for messing around with play arrangements.

Swan expressed interest in Linzer?s plentiful playdates, I feel a bit the same as you Swan, DS is not very good at playing well with friends, and I kind of dread him having friends round. DD plays beautifully with her friends, so it?s not all bad.

Gone had to move her car out of the way of low flying roof tiles. About 3 weeks after I bought my beloved car last year I came out one morning and found a huge lump of rendering from the chimney lying on it?s bonnet, I could have cried, amazingly there was no damage.

SC enjoyed her break and is just catching up.

Toffee had a lot of work to do today, hope you managed it all. My work is a bit like that (quality assurance) can spend hours worrying about the exact wording of something and the ramifications if it is not quite right.

The thread rambled on and on at this point and although I have enjoyed reading it I have lost the will to round it all up!

Nicknacks popped in and crashed on the sofa after a busy day, as did PA who is feeling a little run down again, take it easy PA. Celestial also popped in and updated us all with her Flying accomplishments, hello also to MissJ - hope you feel better soon and BalinderryMum

I dont want to be moved. I like it here.

WhoKnows glad you had a productve day..I'm thinking of trying to find one day a week in Lent where there are no screens for kids or me.
Celestial I think all you need is a piano! And a good piano book for adult beginners...I only have lessons so that I can pay someone to tell me I don't practice enough Blush

swanriver · 10/03/2011 23:00

SC I am so glad you had a DVD interlude - you are usually such a busy bee, I think you need a rest, as does PA. Perhaps the sewing machine hid itself for a reason.

swanriver · 10/03/2011 23:01

now why is that all bold? [takes fright and runs off - I didn't mean to shout, really]

missjulie · 10/03/2011 23:16

To evict us???? WTF???

GoneHopefullyForgotten · 10/03/2011 23:36

LinzerTorte · 11/03/2011 08:07

Another late start today - I really must stop going out for coffee. Went to a cafe with DH this morning, as he has a meeting here in town at 9 am so left for work much later than he normally does.

GNF I thought the idea - originally raised on this thread IIRC - was to have a separate FLY section within Good Housekeeping, not to remove it from Good Housekeeping altogether. I didn't quite see how that would work as you would have to have a topic within a topic but as MNHQ didn't reject the idea out of hand, it must be possible.

Nettie Glad you enjoyed your night out. Smile

Must get on with today's list:

Morning routine
15 min decluttering
Mission
Clean fridge
Empty bins
Clean out bag
File papers
Polish shoes
Update calendar
Post DD2's letter
Finish letter
Wrap birthday present
Afternoon routine
DD1: letters x2
DD2: letters x2
Send photos to GPs
Buy stamps online
Plan next week's English lessons
Evening routine

LinzerTorte · 11/03/2011 08:35

MollysChambers · 11/03/2011 10:28

Morning all.

Late start today. Have been distracted by the armageddon situation in Japan. Our weather may be completely shit but I feel very fortunate to live in a country where we don't have the threat of horror like this hanging over us.

Anyway must press on. Have a bit of a cold so staying in today (apart from school run). Not much energy but will at least try to keep on top of things.

Dishes
Laundry
Mission
Make flapjacks
Quick tidy of my bedroom
Bin out

I'm finding this thread so helpful but there are so many on it that I'm struggling to keep up with who's who. SO apologies for that. Hope you all have a productive day.

feetheart · 11/03/2011 11:10

Molly - like your list :)
I want 'make flapjacks' on mine.
In reality it has:

  • Morning routine
  • Work
  • Insure car

Latter two will take most of the day I feel :(

NickNacks · 11/03/2011 11:55

Good morning Everyone (just about!) How are you all?

Another one here who like the sound of your list Molly Grin A flapjack fan here!

Can I ask if anyone here is FLYing with a baby under 1 (or not walking yet?) DD is 6 months and not mobile yet and she dries eerytime i leave the room. I do take her with me if i'm going to be a while but if I'm just tidying the downstairs and darting from room to room, it leaves her in terrible distress, any ideas?

Anyway, my list

Morning Routine
TD on
Quick tidy of sitting room
Quick tidy of dining room
Quick tidy of kitchen
Get bits for DS1's Beavers homework
Put a wash on
Hang wet washing
Hoover downstairs
s & s bathroom
3 baskets of washing away
School Run
Beavers Run
Unpack shopping delivery
Evening Routine

Smile
NickNacks · 11/03/2011 11:56

dries???? DD doesn't dry when i leave the room, she CRIES! Sorry!

GoneHopefullyForgotten · 11/03/2011 11:58

I have been thinking about this more rationally and i have copyright issues. We cant do anything other then what we are doing. lists otherwise it opens HQ up to being sued. I really see no need or option for doing anything other then what we are doing atm.

MollysChambers · 11/03/2011 12:05

Re the flapjacks. Am trying to turn over a new leaf. Clean and tidy house AND nice things to eat! Maybe that's two new leaves!

Stillchuckingit · 11/03/2011 12:08

Yes - the legal copyright issue was what stopped us before - we are not, strictly speaking, meant to copy anything out directly from the Flylady site, although linking is I think just about OK. Dunno for sure but think dedicated Fly site might be asking for trouble!

Neiiggghhh, hi ho Silver and all that [SC paws ground with hooves]
Feeling very chipper today because (if I say so myself) have flown quite high this morning and am allowing myself a smug moment because it is a fairly rare event!

Have decluttered, tidied and cleaned entire ground floor, all spick and span and am half-way through second floor ...which admittedly needs a bit more attention but have totally cleared first floor landing and storage room and have finally, finally, finished sorting out all our shoes...books next.

Last 20 mins to go before friends arrive so forgive me for "me" "me" post and I'll be back tonight/tomorrow to catch up

Mahoosive waves to all ... [SC canters off stage right]

Stillchuckingit · 11/03/2011 12:09

PS Don't give up Alice - just do 15 mins - you'll get there I promise. My house was truly pitiful before I started Flying ....if I can do it, honestly, honestly, anyone can. Keeping going!!!!

LinzerTorte · 11/03/2011 12:28

Well, I still don't see how it would work - having a separate FLYing section within Good Housekeeping, I mean - but maybe I'm just being particularly dim.

The DDs are driving me mad - DD1 is relentlessly teasing DD2, who is overreacting in response - but at least they've done their piano practice on their own (I've had to grit my teeth at the mistakes, but DD1 in particular refuses to be corrected).

Am still very behind today, but am hoping to catch up later when all three DC will be out. Which reminds me, must wrap that birthday present now.
