Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

oh my goodness ive really behind and cant catch up right now.

i have been at college all day and only got back in at 6 and ds2 to squirels at 6.15 so no flying done today.....however,! i done todays mission on sunday [smug grin] i actually got alot done on sunday which has kept the house reasonably ok until now! so back to flying tomorrow for me.

i had a brief scan over some posts but ill get a proper catch up when i get the boys to bed Smile

GoneHopefullyForgotten · 08/03/2011 19:38

On a complete side note. Ds fell asleep on the sofa, woke up came up stairs, grizzled at me, wondered off into his bedroom clutching his willy. I got him to the bathroom but without spillage. We have progress!!!!!!! He woke up last night to go pee around an hour after falling asleep. Needed a further 2 clean nappies in the night but still progress.

Adds to done list:
Cleaned ds' floor
Wiped ds down - he'll have a bath first thing.
Cleaned bathroom floor.

Right have to get a load of washing washed and into dryer so ready to wear first thing. Going to head to bed after putting on to wash. will set early alarm.

Night.

ballinderrymum · 08/03/2011 20:33

toffee & linzer DD has to wear them for 6 hrs a day - which i think is a really long time! she coped for 5 hours today we thought she had done fantastically for the first day. i tried wearing one for 20 mins and had to take it off. am reading old threads on MN and have seen fabric patches - might get them. 6 hrs seems to be long or is that normal??

swanriver · 08/03/2011 20:55

we had some pancakes, and very nice they were too!
None stuck - wow, thank you veggie box for your stickproof recipe Grin

also a roast dinner

however, after football x 2 and late supper, kitchen is a mess again [grr]

GoneHopefully now are you CHB?

Toffee ds1 is always horrid to ds2 or dd on way home, it seems to be a classic attention seeking device unfortunately. Luckily it only takes 3 minutes to walk home. Poor you, hope he said sorry.

Generally a not v.nice afternoon, trying to plan twins' birthdays and feeling harassed by what they say they want! No, I cannot organise a football party in the local distant park using the main football pitch!

However, football from 6-7pm is a wonderful invention, especially when kids walk there so easily.

swanriver · 08/03/2011 21:00

toffee are there Judo lessons nearby for ds1? Someone recommended these to me for ds1 when he was less interested in team sports and a bit shy, and still recommends them as a very good way to build confidence. I would still like ds1 to do them, as he is actually not very good at football or other "fast" running sports (though enthusiastic) and I think he would benefit from something where stamina is required.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/03/2011 22:18

OK

Funambulist ? love your technique for DS?s bedroom I might try the same on DD, she spends a lot of time playing on her bedroom floor and it is impossibly untidy.

Linzer?s laundry has piled up, mine too, it doesn?t tale long does it. Not quite sure what Fasching is (Pancake Day?) but hope you had a good one.

Babieseverywhere ? sounds like a good plan, keep us posted

Meglet has changed her kitchen roll ? I would say that counted, yes.

LadyinPink has done her census form, having spent the last two evenings doing passport forms for the DCs I am going to leave the census for a bit.

Swan, thank you, I am excited about gardening club, it is a bit scary but think it will be very good fun. It is nice to be in at the beginning of something new. Haven?t touched my own garden yet though this year.

Nettie ? oh dear, hope the cleaner hasn?t gone permanently AWOL. Well done on your link!

Mollyschambers has reminded me about my ironing pile , well done for getting through yours yesterday

Makingchanges - Yes, smoke alarms v.important, I try and do mine the first week of every month, Nettie is also good at remembering. I had mine fitted by the Fire Brigade, they were supposed to last 10 years but only managed about 3, what is worrying is that the red indicators were still flashing, and there was no beeping but THEY DIDN?T WORK, take note everyone. CO alarm too.

Balinderrymum hope the eye patch wearing works out OK. Very springlike here today (Hampshire).

Toffee, sounds nice you and DS working together, hope it was productive. Glad you got the car back

Simone popped in to wish us all a Happy Pancake Day

Swan/Toffee, don?t know about the DCs, but something that could block MN between the hours of 9 and 3 would seriously increase my productivity!

Systems, hello, glad you are seeing the results of your decluttering

Celestial ? that sounds like my kind of lunch!

Feet ? fingers crossed for more sleep tonight

MissJ ? hope DD feels better tomorrow

Gone ? waves in direction of naughty corner. Good progress for DS

Swan, my pick ups end up like that, we can walk home in either of two opoosite directions (it?s two sides of a square of roads either way) they always want to go opposite directions, they they race, then one loses and there are tears, then one will get hold of the Ipad the minute they walk in and they end up fighting over it, then they both want me to play different games with them. I ended up screaming tonight. However, and I know it goes against the rules really, it worked, everyone was immaculately behaved afterwards. Toffee, you were in a similar boat today it seems.

Nettie ? has mistaken her Iphone for a digestive biscuit

Snot, well done on early Mission work. What?s Squirrels?

CakesandRoses ? hello, welcome on board. Thank you to MakingChanges for passing out introductory info

NickNacks ? I can?t keep up either!? As fast as I write this roundup you lot keep posting!

Whoknows ? had a busy day at work, meltdowns with the DCs after school but lovely pancakes, I have always been useless at them for some reason, but I followed my Be-Ro cookbook to the ltter and got perfect pancakes (love the Be-Ro cookbook). Not much flying TBH, as I have also had the two passort forms to fill in and various other bits of paperwork but never mind. Hoping the end of the week will be a bit less manic.

Back with links in a minute

Nettie - I am sure there was a thread about getting Iphones wet a few months ago, might be worth a search.

Congrats PMPY ~ enjoy your new arrival xxx

funambulist · 08/03/2011 23:31

PMPY well done! Grin, so pleased for you. I suggest that your list for tomorrow should be:

cuddle baby
have something to eat
get some sleep

Almost done on my to do list and debating which is more important, to finish it or to go to bed. What would Flylady do?

Swish and swipe up and downstairs half done

Hot spot x 2 done

Put washing on done

Put dry washing away done

Pack up DCs swim kit for lessons this evening done

Make packed tea for DS1 who has a rehearsal this evening. done

Pack DS1 PE kit for tomorrow done

Various emails half done

Give supermarket vouchers to school completely forgot

Label goggles to they don't get lost again didn't get time , hopefully have done for next lesson.

Lay out clothes for tomorrow not yet not so good at this one. DH keeps going to bed before I do and it's hard to lay out my clothes in the dark Grin (thinks, maybe I should do this earlier in the day?)

15 mins declutter and/or mission done (did the mission yey!)

Various things got added to the list as the day went on namely cleaning DS1 rugby boots, printing out maths' questions for DS2 to do, sorting out payment for DS1's school trip, putting the swim things in the wash and then hanging them out.

I didn't give DS2 a new room challenge as it was such a busy afternoon but did make sure that he kept up with the 4 he has so far. So he put away some clothes and straightened his duvet. I'm hoping that eventually I might be able to hoover his room. Grin

Right, maybe a quick swish and swipe of the bathroom just for fun Wink before bed.

Night all.

PMPY congrats on new family member

LinzerTorte · 09/03/2011 04:57

Congratulations, PMPY - wonderful news. Grin

WhoKnows Fasching is a kind of carnival and involves everyone dressing up, carnival processions and, for a reason I've never been able to work out, lots of doughnuts being eaten.

DD1's RE teacher is ill so I get out of today's English lesson (although I've offered to do it on other day) as she'll be out of school an hour early today and tomorrow. Have just checked her timetable and she doesn't even have RE today, so I suppose it's to make up for her teacher having to teach an extra hour on another day. At least she won't be out an hour early on Friday, as she would finish at 10.50.

List:

Morning routine
15 min decluttering
Mission
Empty bins (if necessary)
Recycle paper, metal and glass
Polish mirrors
Purge magazines
Buy birthday present for DD2's friend
Pay friend for flowers (saw her yesterday and forgot again)
Afternoon routine
DD1: letters
Send photos to GPs
Pick up DD2 from friend's and take to ballet
Buy stamps online
Evening routine
