Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Evening.

today i have: slept, done doctors appointment, taken ds for walk, checkec fb and mn and gone back to bed.
I didnt make the bedtime last night, and although i am in bed goodness knows what time i will sleep tonight. Almost got rid of the bastard headache but not quite. Hoping it will be gone tomo.

NickNacks · 03/03/2011 19:57

Stillchuckingit I don't know if i'm the previous 'Nick' or not? Confused

I was on the February thread if thats what you mean? But I'm not a NC if you think i used to go by another name. I'm talking crap!

LinzerTorte · 03/03/2011 20:25

Nick I think SC meant NickOfTime, who used to be on this thread but hasn't been on in a while. She's now back to her old (non-Nick!) nickname though, I think - at least, she was the last time she posted.

NickNacks · 03/03/2011 20:27

Ok sorry not the one you meant then.

Smile
simonedeboudoir · 03/03/2011 20:42

Hello everyone. I haven't done a lot of FLYing today.

ballinderrymum good luck tomorrow!

Toffeefudgecake sounds like you've had a good day in spite of everything! Hope you all enjoyed the walk.

Feeling a bit shivery and crap at the moment for reasons I won't bore / depress you with here. Venting in AIBU (the PFB one, if you're interested)

ANYWAY here's to a better day tomorrow Smile

MollysChambers · 03/03/2011 21:27

Have decided that actually I can get a fair bit done when under pressure!

List:
Dishwasher unloaded, reloaded etc done
Dishes done
Walk to toddlers with DD3 done
Load washing machine, unload, hang out, take in, on airer done
Clear laundry mountain done Yay!
Prepare dinner before
Opticians with DD2 done
Put away pile of assorted "stuff" collected during my quick tidy up yesterday done
Emptied bins done
Beds made done
DD1's school trousers mended done
Recycling to garage done
Partial declutter of porch done

Blimey I'm knackered!

pushmepullyou · 03/03/2011 21:48

Crap day here too. Stayed up too late trying to get a report in to a fit state to pass to a colleague for him to continue with whilst I was at meetings today. Managed that OK, went to the meeting, which over ran so I missed most of my pre-op assessment for my elcs next week so don't really know where to go or what's going to happen now.

Then got home and my colleague had spent all day working on the report, finished a draft for me to review and proof by about 8 and then somehow failed to save it. So now I am starting from scratch with the same version I sent this morning Sad Angry.

And because I am pregnant I can't even have enough Wine

swanriver · 03/03/2011 21:58

Push that is absolutely awful Sad Hope he brings you flowers tomorrow for that ballsup.
When is your ML starting, I hope tomorrow you will be able to completely sign off for your own welfare.

ELCs can be unnerving (I remember trying to run off and hide before mine but nurse steered me back towards the theatre) But the great thing is it is incredibly safe, you can get all the help sorted for when you need it.
I remember the one thing that I wasn't expecting was that ds1 got conjunctivitis, so dh couldn't visit me (he was looking after ds when I had ELC with next pregnancy) so remember to have plenty of people as your "sit in the hospital" with you backup after the birth. The other thing was that after an ELC or any CS you need someone to be on hand to help in hospital (as post natal care is usually nil) just to hang around for long periods, not just come on state visits. It was important to have someone to do boring things like tidy up your locker, bring you food, change baby, as you recover.

simonedeboudoir · 03/03/2011 22:01

pushmepullyou here have some St DavidsSt DavidsSt Davids

You're having a baby in a few days time! You should be relaxing with your feet up, not stressing over work

swanriver · 03/03/2011 22:01

Wine is overrated anyway, Horlicks and a bar of choc is just as nice!

Done
catechism meeting - quite calming after terrible supper with unruly kids and cross husband
lasagne
grocery shopping (unscheduled)
now tryng to finish a Sleeve in red fustian Hmm

Dh has gone to bed, I think he is fed up with doing all the bedtimes this week!

Toffeefudgecake · 03/03/2011 22:04

PMPY - that's maddening! How on earth could they not have saved it? I hope you won't be up too late tonight.

What day is your ELCS next week?

swanriver · 03/03/2011 22:06

Fun I need to start listening to the Archers not the howls of kids! Kitchen compost is my bete noire too - too many Brew bags and too many banana skins

Molly hope you feel better soon. Where is Spring? It has vanished and it is freeeezing.

swanriver · 03/03/2011 22:09

P.S. It is only unnerving when you are waiting to go in, not unnerving to have one, I meant push. The op will be absolutely fine.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/03/2011 22:15

Evening all,

Well, we started today with some confusion about what today?s mission actually was, hope you all found it OK, and thanks to Linzer for clarification!

MollysChambers had World Book Day dressing up to deal with so was up bright and early, but had an unforeseen change of plans due to broken down car

Systems has had a major declutter of her kitchen and is in full-on spring cleaning mode

Swan was fretting over her DCs lack of morning organizational skills, mine are younger but I feel a bit the same way ? your coat, there, on the peg, 6 inches from your nose?

Snot had an early night and got DH Flying

Jahan was going for an upstairs declutter today

Cobwebs was offering lots of gardening advice

Toffee had a lovely surprise meal cooked for her by DS1 which together with a walk restored a happy atmosphere to the Toffee household

Perhaps has got a DD with chicken pox, poor DD

Feetheart has had a busy few days but popped back in to offer reassurance to anyone who is feeling overwhelmed. She also needed to vent about living with DH?s family clutter legacy.

Simone needed a bit of clarification about the dressed to shoes babystep, Toffee came along and advised.

Funambulist asked for guidance regarding e-cloths and is still struggling a bit with storage by the sounds of it. Sounds as though she had a pretty productive day in the end, plus DH home early for a change.

Celestial is another one with DCs off sick today

Linzer came back and provided a useful llink about e-cloths

Alice nipped in to say hello and waved a pretty duster at us

SC has been very busy in both home and office modes but hoping for a bit of time away next week

SlimJim had an all day playdate

NickNacks has not been able to do much Flying but has the house to herself for part of the weekend so is planning a catch up then

Snot had a crappy day and introduced us to the grumpy cow emoticon

Balinderrymum ? good luck with the dentist

CHB is in the naughty corner but her head is improving which is what matters.

Simone ? read you other thread, sorry that happened, hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

PMPY ? not a good day, far too much work and not enough Wine

When I started this roundup PMPY?s was the last post, have just refreshed and you?re all still posting, can?t keep up! Going to stop there and do the links.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/03/2011 22:18

Friday

Babystep write things on post-its to remind you. I for one do not want to re-clutter my house with post-its so I don't bother with it.

Mission I'm not going to predict it today after causing mayhem previously.

Night night

feetheart · 03/03/2011 22:45

Thank you so much for all the supportive messages (and tea and sympathy and flowers :)). Feeling a bit calmer tonight thankfully, helped by having a bit of time this morning to tidy downstairs - mainly by shifting all of DC's stuff back to their rooms and shutting the doors.

Ihate - not picking on you, I'm just Envy of all you achieve. My lists tend to much shorter and consist of non-Flying things - could be where I'm going wrong Hmm

Still haven't caught up with the thread and am going to be without an internet connection tomorrow as apparently our router has to go to work with DH Hmm However an upside to this is that I can't do any work (or get sucked into MN) so should have more time for Flying.

Update for today:

  • Invoices for work - done
  • Post ebay parcel - done
  • Put stuff in recycling bin, garage, compost as appropriate - done
  • 5 mins Room Rescue in living room - done
  • Mission - done
  • Relocate stuff on stairs to correct rooms - done
  • Hoover living room, hall and stairs - done
  • Contact builder re work next week - done
  • Make fish cakes, prep wedges and veg for quick dinner - done
  • Maths workshop at school - done
  • DS to swimming lesson - done
  • Go and see tenants about work next week - done
  • Try to catch up with Masterchef - over a week behind - NO

Not bad. Hopefully will get more done tomorrow.

pushmepullyou · 03/03/2011 22:52

Thanks swan, I am feeling a bit nervous about it now, so it's very reassuring to hear from someone who's been there and done it! Not keen I have to admit and would really prefer to have the whole whale music water birth thing, but it is rather more important to stay continent!

toffee it's next Tuesday. Really hasn't sunk in yet though!

I have done some most of the report and am off to bed. Colleague is still working on his bit and will send it through at some point in the middle of the night, but it will have to wait until morning now.

Sorry for the lack of personal messages. Will try harder tomorrow Wink

perhapstomorrow · 03/03/2011 22:58

Good evening everyone,

Sorry I've not had a chance to read through the latest posts but hope you are all well. DD was OK today but she definitely went to bed with more spots than she had in the morning. I think the worse is definitely to come as at the moment only one of the spots is a typical blister. Poor DD.

Anyhow, here's my update.

Put dishwasher on and unpacked done
Hang out washing done
Put washing away done
Change bedding done
Send out invoice for DH done
Make Lunch for DC done
Pick DD1 up from school done
Do a very quick shop (if MIL can babysit)done
Make Dinner done
Tidy after dinner done
Arrange drop off and pickup of DD1 from school done

Celestialstarlight · 03/03/2011 23:17

whoknows Fabulous round up. I can but only bow to your superior wit Grin

I'm not gonna do personals this evening simply because I can't be arsed am too tired. [yawning head off emoticon] However I am in awe of Push who despite having her C/S next week is still working! Grrrr at the report mishap. Not fair on you.

missjulie · 04/03/2011 00:07

Hello all!
Been out all day! Not got much flying done at all. have had a lovely day with DD, my mate, and her DD, we went swimming, then had a very long lunch and giggles!

done list up, washed, dressed, fed, stuff for day organised, dishes, shined sink, swimming, lunch, errands, home, fed, washed, tidied up, dishes, sink shined, hoovered, played with DD, then we played some nursery rhymes on the keyboard and she loved it! Am not sitting trying to figure out the tune her daddy made her (in his head) and trying to write it onto manuscript paper as a nice surprise for him when he comes home! All the time i was preg, i was a total insomniac, and he used to sing me a lullaby each night! Loved it! After DD was born, he used to (and still does) sing it to her instead, and we have always meant to get it recorded or something! This is the first step!

Afraid i haven't had time to read the thread Blush Hope everyone has had a good day. xx

missjulie · 04/03/2011 00:08

Oh, and prepared DD meals/bottles etc & looked out clothes for tomorrow, and did 2 loads of washing!

LinzerTorte · 04/03/2011 04:56

Morning all,

Hectic day here today, so no list - against all Flylady principles, I will probably just be rushing round like a headless chicken instead. After the school run, DS has an appointment with the lung specialist, which I'm hoping will take slightly less than the two hours it did last time. I really should do the weekly food shop afterwards, but will see how much time I have - I don't want to be out the entire morning.

The girls will be home from school at midday, so we'll just have time for a quick lunch before it's off to DD1's dyslexia lesson at 1.30 pm. A friend and her two boys are due to arrive at about the same time as we get home; at the same time, I need to take DD2 to a friend's (so must remember to phone her friend's mother this morning to ask if she can pick DD2 up instead). Need to pick up DS and two friends from gymnastics when friend leaves, take them and DD1 to friend's house where they'll be staying overnight, and then go straight to the station to catch the train into Vienna for Friday Date Night!

Am already starting to feel slightly stressed just thinking about it all. Grin

PMPY Good luck for Tuesday! I would second swan's advice about having someone around at the hospital as much as possible, as I was unprepared for how little I could do for myself. At least with an ELCS, you can plan for it and know exactly when the baby will be arriving. I had an EMCS with DS (a bit of a shock after a normal pregnancy and two previous natural births) and was completely unprepared for it all and for how I'd feel afterwards (I went into hospital for a routine check-up two weeks before my due date and came home with a baby!).

Must go and get the DC's snacks ready before I wake them - may be back later if I don't go shopping. Grin

PositiveAttitude · 04/03/2011 06:41

Good morning ladies Grin

A bit of an odd week here. Every day so far plans have changed for one reason or another, so a bit wary of actually planning today Hmm.

Job number 1
straight on to job number 3
home cook tea
out for a drink with a friend.

No time for flying today, but the house is looking good as I had a very un-fat fairy blitz yesterday due to a meeting being held here last night.
In between though, I will do the odd S&S, DW, WM, etc. just to keep on top of things.

I did do something rather stupid yesterday. We have lived in this house for 10 years. I came driving up the hill, and swung the car into our driveway. Only problem was that someone had moved the houses around and it wasnt actually our house, but our neighbours!! Blush The slight problem with that is that she does not have a driveway, and where our driveway is, she has a brick wall!! Blush Blush CAr front is a little mangled (to say the least). DH not happy!! DS thinks it is hysterically funny. DD thinks its totally embarrassing and a sign that I am going the same way as my mum (Alzeimers).

Today has to be better - surely!!

Massive waves to everyone. Thanks for the round-up Whoknows, good luck PMPY. and apologies to everyone for lack of personal messages.

Happy Friday Grin

AliceImWunderland · 04/03/2011 07:44

okay

the duster did not reach the cobwebs
the dog is shedding everywhere
and Im fighting a losing battle on dust

so may hide puter and try harder

Stillchuckingit · 04/03/2011 08:06

Snurk at PA's car mangling incident [sorry but sounds like just the sort of thing I would do!!]. Hope not too costly to repair!!

Anyway, morning lovely fledglings. Good news is I've been in the office for the past hour getting an early start. The bad news is I have given up coffee...

Dd was despatched off to last day of school before half term in full Madame Butterfly regalia this morning, complete with white face and lily flower ...

So have six hours in which to kick photocopier, meet with printers, file, shred, and bash out reports. House was looking decidedly messy when I left and it will remain that way until the weekend.

Thanks for heroic round-up and steps Whoknows

Good luck at dentist today Balinderry!!

Sorry to hear about your report Pushme that's awful - hope you have a better day today and try not to worry about elcs. I had a lovely one (bicornuate/breech). No discomfort or pain or anything. Actual operation was bliss. Felt a bit high on drugs first two days but by 4th day was absolutely fine.

Linzer thanks for Nickoftime explanation (although I'm not sure of her new name now!!) Good luck with the complicated logistics today

You are on a roll MissJ - you too Molly

Oh dear, your poor dd Perhaps Have you got any calamine lotion?

Hope you are feeling better today SimonedeB. You too Toffee!

Nicknacks sorry to confuse everyone!!

Sorry - no more time for personals but huge waves to everyone!!

After work:
fish shop
school run
morning routine Blush Blush
laundry on
clear paths through sitting room floor
fish for supper
collapse

This w/e: Big clean and sort this weekend so can come back from holiday to house in reasonable state
