Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Oooh, lots of good recommendations here. Very useful, thanks Swan.

Hello! I'm a newbie...but was very rubbish very quickly and didn't have a chance to post yesterday.

I'm quite proud of myself on the FLYing front today. Have done lots of jobs today (taken elderly Nan to the supermarket, returned library books, collected parcels from neighbours) as well as cleaned sink (can't really shine it as it is made of some kind of composite...I think), cleaned and swept the front door and doormats, decluttered in the hall for 15 mins. Am also really proud that I've filled a lovely old bureau I bought of Ebay last year and which has been standing empty, with my stash of birthday/thank you cards, stamps and pens etc. Think I now "get" FLY Lady's approach of 15mins bursts - and how important it is to declutter. Doesn't mean I'll keep it up though, does it?!

Will now go back and read all the posts....although I did just read missJulie's post - yuck re: dead bird!!! That's reminded me I need to send DH up to loft tonight as I heard mice up there last night. I couldn't sleep for listning to them scurrying around, worrying that the mice were feasting on DS's old car seat that's up there and spent half the night thinking how am I going to get mouse wee out of the fabric even if they haven't devoured half of it already. YUCK!

missjulie · 02/03/2011 18:51

Stop being a bad influence and giving the fledglings a reason not to turn mn off. Tutt.

Evening. best start with the admitance to failure:

Sink shiney nope Blush
Decluttering nope Blush
Mission didnt even look at it Blush
drop of uniform order form - done
training - halfheartedly
pick meds up from hopsital - done
make doc appointment -done
collaspe into bed swearing at bastard headache Grin done.

We aint all fast flyers, I am not the most successful. in fact today's biggest achievement was not just going back to bed this morning. Be the system works whether you hit the ground running or take it up at a gentle wandering pace. WE all get there in the end. Just some faster and in a more tiring way then others Wink

Not going to do personals as straight thoughts just really aint happening and i am likely to call fred joe or soemthing.

Have lovely evenings. Good flying tomo.

perhapstomorrow · 02/03/2011 19:41

Good evening all,

Just a quick update on my list. Managed most things apart from 15 mins decluttering. Will tackle that tomorrow. However, to make up for it I did add an extra task to my list that wasn't on it originally and I washed down some of the walls in the hall as they were looking a bit grubby.

DDs to school\preschool done
Breakfast things away done
Hang out washing done
Put away washing and put on another load done
Hoover downstairs done
Do washing up and wipe down kitchen surfaces done
Quick dust in living room done
Tidy away all crap drawing materials from dining table done
Quick tidy up DDs bedroom done
Quick tidy up our bedroom done
Hoover upstairs done
Clean bathroom done
Wednesday's mission
Lunch for DS done
Pick up DD from preschool done
Pick up DD from School done
Make dinner done
Tidy kitchen after dinner done
Shine sink done
Wash kitchen floor done
Wash paintwork in hall done

ooo plus I had to clear up three lots of sick. My DS gagged on a drink and was sick all over the sofa, on the floor and then in the kitchen. So it is a bit smelly sitting here at the mo!

LinzerTorte · 02/03/2011 19:50

Yuck at dead bird missjulie and sick DS perhaps - my two phobias covered in one fell swoop. Envy (That's a nauseous rather than an envious face btw!)

I had an unprecedented sudden burst of energy this evening and cleaned the fridge. Am now rewarding myself with Wine and chocolate (I think we need a chocolate emoticon), as energy and evening are not normally two words I would put together.

Patienceobtainsallthings · 02/03/2011 19:50

Can I join u ladies?
Moved house in Nov and chucked anything that wasn't completely relevant,VERY CLEANSING ,highly recommended.
Just lose momentum with the day to day stuff. But cleaned the bath today and shined my sink .
When I iron I have lovely mornings ,dcs have clothes ready for them.

So I am going to start
Ironing once a week
Sort out dcs clothes and recycle what I can.
Sort out post/clutter corner in the kitchen.

Patienceobtainsallthings · 02/03/2011 19:54

Ps yesterday I had a big wash day all bedding etc cleared under beds ,all lovely and fresh ,2 am dd staggers through "mummy I've been sick ",so bed stripped again LOL x

Asinine · 02/03/2011 20:24

Did chuck out a lot clothes today, will go to charity when leg better and can drive. Dd2 is noticing all toys which have vanished recently but isn't too bothered yet. I still have them in the ensuite bathroom so if she gets distraught I could bring them back.
Am just exhausted by doing normal housework, washing, cooking, sorting out kids etc. Unfortunately we have lots of stairs which is not helping ankle to heal. And dh is away Sad. but kids are very helpful and lovely.
Still you lot are cheering me up with the banter. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/03/2011 20:25

Evening all,

MissJ - thank you! A lovely roundup, I am going to excuse myself tonight as you have done such a good job. Would just like to say hello to MrsSharp and Patienceobtainsallthings.

I had a bit of an off and on day today, was supposed to be working at home because I was waiting in for a man to give me a quote for some building work. I didn't get much work done because I kept getting so distracted by the state of the house, so I did quite a lot of tidying and a bit of cleaning and not much work, also took the DCs for a haircut after school. I need to go and do a bit of work now, also there is a mountain of clean washing on my bed to sort out and Tuesday is ironing night . I haven't been sleeping well for about a week either, too much on at the moment.

Anyway, I will just hand out a few Wine and Brew and post the links.

Thursday 3rd March

Babystep - reinforcement, keep shining your sink and dressing to lace up shoes (or slippers)

Mission

Sweep your porch and shake your mats. I said that last night didn't I? Must have misread the Sneak Peek. If you did that today you could do todays one tomorrow, which was 15 minutes decluttering in the dining room. Sorry!

Night all.

elliepac · 02/03/2011 20:42

Jeez. I cannot even pretend that i have read all the thread and can remember who all you lovely new ladies are but will try harder tomorrow!

The x factor was , according to ds, the best night of his life Grin. Interesting evening with some them being a lot better than i thought they were! Am absolutely pooped today and if i had the energy i would be writing a long post on how to deal with a violent 3 yr old but have no energy so will just say grrrrrrrrrrrWink. have just walked in the door so am going to have dinner and collapse in a heap.

Note the lack of flying to mention on a flyi g thread. I shall resume my habitual position in the naughty corner where i shall remain for the forseeable future Wink.

spiderbabymum · 02/03/2011 20:53

Ok guys . Much too late to do the porch ..it can wait HA

Can we Devise a way to look at this thread on a daily basis and actually see what the daily bore i mean chore is without scrolling thru the entire thread

TA

ColdHeartedBitch · 02/03/2011 21:00

pushmepullyou · 02/03/2011 21:50

Evening everyone Smile

Have mostly read the thread, goodness me everyone's been busy! I have just got back from work so not much flying done here, although I have incentivised DH to replace the sofa cover and take the bins out by offering him biscuits Grin.

Don't have a dining room or a porch so consider myself ahead of the game missionwise already though!

missjulie · 02/03/2011 21:53

swanriver · 02/03/2011 21:58

Minda hope you got at least 15 mins of photos done - dh does ours in sketch books; we only have piles of paper photos as we can't work out how to do digital files, so have everything printed out the old fashioned way at developers...
I think it is just the sheep and goats element of ss school selection that sometimes gets one down Hmm fingers crossed ds never discovers whether he is a sheep or a goat
sick hen - hope she feels better soon

Cobweb I had a sleep today, most important Smile
The torrent of spring gardening is nearly upon us - have you started your seedlings on window sills/propagators yet (if you do that sort of thing?)

pushmepullyou · 02/03/2011 22:05

missJulie, looking at the number of posts there have been today and knowing how long the round-ups took me last month I have a sneaking suspiscion that whoknows will not have minded too much Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/03/2011 22:18

Quite right PMPY, although it is a lot easier now than it was last time a few months ago, thanks to our lovely new MAC, I did last night's in Word and copied it in, much easier to work in two windows at once that it is on a PC.
