chair legs??

Everything in the kitchen gets a thorough clean about once a month- under microwave, inside/outside bin, wipe round oven, cupboard doors. Might be done more often when I see a spill etc.

Skirting board, under bed, light switches no more than twice a year.

Windows outside every 2 months when the window cleaner comes, inside prob the same.

Why do you want to know may I ask?

HettyAmaretti · 07/02/2011 20:01

Um, why?

NickNacks · 07/02/2011 20:04
  1. Run the hoover over the bits i can see, the rest either when i move furniture. Hardly even wash them- probably when i'm decorating.
  1. I bought a sugar soap spray today to do the kitchen walls. Bathroom walls fairly often as i have two boys Hmm . Other rooms- never!
  1. Inside and outside maybe every other year!
  1. About every other week.
  1. Every time i wipe the worktop/ clean the bathroom.
  1. Never have cleaned the legs! Chairs get a full wipe over after every meal.
  1. About once a month. Only have kitchen ones.
  1. Fairly often, there's nothing under so very easy to hoover.
  1. Not often enough! Maybe twice a year!
  1. I have chrome so finger prints etc show so every time i polish the room, about once a week.

Hope this helps! The above will highlight to you why i am on the february fledglings thread! Grin

  1. Your skirting boards. Er... when the dust has reached the lightswitches :o Rarely
  2. Your walls - when the fingerprints from toddlers starts to obliterate the paint.
  3. Your oven a) inside b) outside/down the sides. Inside the oven - once a year maybe. Outside - more often, when I'm wiping down the kitchen cupboards. Sides - can't it's built in.
  4. Your internal kitchen bin - once every 6 months
  5. the tiles in a) the kitchen and b) the bathroom - don't have tiles in the kitchen, have glass splashback which shows every little mark so I do that most days. Bathroom tiles, once a week when I clean the bathroom.
  6. dining room (or kitchen) chair/table legs - er, never!
  7. cupboard doors a) in kitchen and b) rest of house - kitchen cupboard doors are white and dd likes to fingerpaint them so quite often, prob once a week. Don't do any other cupboard doors.
  8. underneath your bed - can't actually get under my bed due to large amount of stuff shoved there!
  9. windows - once a year, springtime usually.
10. plug sockets/light switches - prob never, if I see a dusty one and I've got a cloth in my hand they might get a wipe.
LIZS · 07/02/2011 20:05

1 & 2 wiped about twice a year, hoover visible skirting boards whenever I do the room. Oven about once a week wipe over in and out, clean once a month. Bin wipe over each week and spray inside. Tiles about once a month, more often by sinks/loo. 6 & 8 twice a year or so 7 monthly, 9 internally monthly in summer, less in winter , outside about twice a year. 10 as and when.

Can I add one - how often to empty a hoover ?

ConnorTraceptive · 07/02/2011 20:06

1-once a week
2- Never clean but touch up the paint once every couple of months
3-every 3 or 4 months
4-Don't have a kitchen bin
5-Once a week
6-Once a week
7-Once a week
8-Our bed is a suprking divan that I can't move so never!
9- Outside is done monthly by window cleaners, inside evrycouple of months or so
10- Not regularly but if they have marks I'll go over them when damp dusting rest of house

PavlovtheCat · 07/02/2011 20:07

why? because I have been deep cleaning and thinking how long it has taken to clean these things. And whether anyone is as lazy as me when it comes to things like chair legs and whether I should pull my finger out more and how much importance people place on it. I like to see how grubby I really am/or not.

I ask about chair legs because we have cream table and chairs and two grubby children. I tend to do the floors without my glasses on so don't really get to see how absolutely filthy the chair legs have got, until yesterday when I got down to wipe some coffee spilled down one. And realised I have not cleaned them in a while!

I empty the hoover practically every time I use it (dyson) as we have two cats and a dog who moult a lot! Hoover downstairs about 5 times a week for the same reason :o

OP posts:
ellangirl · 07/02/2011 20:10

I have old pine chairs and only one DS who still sits in a high chair, so maybe my chairs haven't got dirty enough yet (or I just can't see it!)
I have to clean a lot more often than I would if I didn't have pets, and my house will never look as clean as someone who didn't have them. Makes a huge difference to dust levels etc on skirting boards, and there's always cat hair everywhere under bed because they hide there...

DuelingFanjo · 07/02/2011 20:12

  1. twice a year - if MIl is visiting

PavlovtheCat · 07/02/2011 20:12

DH has answered the 'why' question much more succinctly than me.

'we want want to know 'are we slovenly pigs, or not?' Grin

duelingfangoi know, a strange one eh? but it seems more popular than I thought, and I am thinking, seeing as we now have white walls in a lot of our rooms, maybe it is easier/simpler to clean them from time to time and not repaint them! (i don't mean the whole thing, just dirty bits/grubby smudges).

OP posts:
NickNacks · 07/02/2011 20:44

The answer is no more than us!

Although I feel positively ill when i go to SIL's though. She has no children, is out at work all week (sometimes away) and has a small two bedroom house. She cleans for 4/5 hours every saturday and the place gleams. Thing is, it doesn't feel very homely because everyone is so terrifed of so much as putting a cup down.

PavlovtheCat · 07/02/2011 20:55

nicknack i wonder how often your SIL cleans these things?!

I just don't know how important these type of details are in getting that lovely looking home. Not that ours is not lovely, but you know how some people have crisp houses, you know, the type where even if there is a magazine and a cup of coffee on the side it still looks clean and shiny and gleaming? Where if you put a cup of coffee and a magazine on the side in our home it looks a little messy.

Like, for example I cleared out the junk we had sort of collecting at the top of our kitchen cupboards, all useable, stuff we need, but stuffed up high. So i organised it, took it all down and found new homes, and it made the kicthen so much bigger and cleaner.

  1. Your skirting boards - in bathroom maybe monthly. They are pained white and our bathroom appears to be very dusty Hmm
  1. Your walls - only 'spot cleans' like when ds rubs bolognaisey hands across them.
  1. Your oven a) inside b) outside/down the sides.
been in house 3 years, same oven, never cleaned inside. No sides as it's fitted. Do the top and front roughly weekly
  1. Your internal kitchen bin - urk. I spray stuff inside it sometimes. Maybe annually actually clean it.
  1. the tiles in a) the kitchen and b) the bathroom.
kitchen - give them occassional wipe at same time as surfaces. Not v thorough though, and maybe every couple of months. Bathroom - spot clean.
  1. dining room (or kitchen) chair/table legs. Not so far.
  1. cupboard doors a) in kitchen and b) rest of house. Spot clean (less often than needed in kitchen Blush if I'm honest.
  1. underneath your bed - I daren't go there. It would unbalance the emerging ecosystem.
  1. windows - um.
  1. plug sockets/light switches - give them a wipe if I have a cloth in hand during a cleaning spree (you know the ones...in the hour leading up to a visitor)
NickNacks · 07/02/2011 21:05

That's her house!

They don't have any clutter so everything is easily cleaned and immaculately decorated so it looks perfect! Show home! Hmm

I imagine she cleans it all every week!

hugebelly · 07/02/2011 22:07

and I don't do it, the cleaner does - she's amazing!

Trifle · 07/02/2011 22:13

None of it ever apart from under the bed and that is only when I move house.

PavlovtheCat · 08/02/2011 19:19

hugebelly is your house gleaming?

Is everyone else's/anyone else's houses gleaming? those who do it once a month/quarterly/yearly/never?

I have in the last two days been a bit obsessed. And a bit tired Wink but it has been easier today, as long as i accept i am to be a little hoover constantly picking up after the kids (which I don't mind) and DH (which I do mind a bit but realise I have to just let it go!). Not gleaming, but closer to it.

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 08/02/2011 19:20

hugebelly and how many hours a week does your cleaner come? I had vaguely considered getting a cleaner when DH is back at work, but certainly not for more than 2-3 hours a week, and I cannot imagine she (or he, lets not be sexist here eh?) could do all that in 2-3 hours!
