Quite a lot of this is cleaner, not me! But:

  1. Your skirting boards - once a week
  2. Your walls - never unless obviously marked / need to scrub toddler mess off (more often paint over!)
  3. Your oven a) inside b) outside/down the sides. - inside: about once a month, outside - once a week
  4. Your internal kitchen bin - rarely. Only really if it smells / bag bursts, although sometimes spray dettol in when change the bag.
  5. the tiles in a) the kitchen and b) the bathroom - weekly.
  6. dining room (or kitchen) chair/table legs - DS likes to dust the chairs while I do proper dusting! So about weekly, but by a 2 year old.
  7. cupboard doors a) in kitchen and b) rest of house. Kitchen - weekly; est of house - very rarely. If ever.
  8. underneath your bed - rarely.
  9. windows - outside: every six weeks; inside: when visibly dirty (every couple of months, maybe more in summer as it gets dusty round here).
10. plug sockets/light switches
  • when visibly dirty, as above sticky fingers mean that this is an ongoing job!

Hi Pavlovthecat - I've just started having a cleaner. Before, the house was a mess and very dusty. She comes for 5 hours on a Wednesday morning (so I'm tiding up now!). She doesn't stop, she's amazing. She's Polish and has very high standards. After her first visit, she apologised that she didn't do as good a job as she would have liked - I was gobsmacked by her efforts and promtly gave her an extra £20.

Now the place is clean, I can keep on top of it with a two year old and a four month old.

  1. DH does these when he notices dust.
  2. When covered in weetabix/jam (more often than I'd like).
  3. a) About once every 3months.
b) When oven is moved out for any reason(sides) and once a week for outside (except hob which is 3-5 times per week)
  1. Once a week.
  2. a) Once a week/when they get food splashed on them.
b) Weekly (when bathroom is cleaned)
  1. See No. 2 above!
  2. a) Every couple of days.
b) Only clean mirrored doors in our bedroom, and only when I dust (very infrequently)
  1. Hoover under bed weekly.
  2. When we notice that they are grubby (usually in spring/summer but not at all in winter)
10. Every time I dust (again infrequently)
