Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

missjulie · 15/02/2011 20:38

done:
DD played with again, ready for bed, fed, sorted, me fed, watered, sat down for a while, on-line correspondence done, played around on MN, replied to texts, that's about it!
Not sure got much more energy to do anything else today.
Got about 4 loads of washing to fold and put away, and another couple of loads to do, but it might well need to wait until tomorrow!!
Hope all you other lovely flyers are good this evening! xxx

Stillchuckingit · 15/02/2011 21:06

Evening all!!

Crikey - what are you lot on???

A mere 52 posts logged for Tuesday 15th!!

Just got back from school meeting so may be a bit of a quickie round-up tonight.

[Takes deep breath and scrolls ....]

elliepac · 15/02/2011 21:21

While sc scrolls I shall update on my day Grin.

Whole house is presentable, living room decorated and adorned with presents although I think dh and ds took a little longer than was necessary putting the train set together Grin. have just got to lay breakfast table with peppa pig plates and balloons and we are all ready!

Am absolutely cream crackered so no personal messages but am still rather disappointed that I didn't find a hamster in my laundry and I looked really hard Grin.

Special mention however to makingchanges. how did the lesson go?

Right am off to flop on the sofa but I shall pour sc a medicinal glass of Wine to help her recover from the roundup Grin.

Ihatecobwebs · 15/02/2011 21:27

Ellie - the only reason I can do my lists is that I don't have a full time job outside the house - I would never be able to manage otherwise.

Did you hunt for evidence or just for wee furry beasties??

optimisticmumma · 15/02/2011 21:35

Catching up with you chatty lot whilst watching the Brits with my teenagers and a Wine!
I must say you are a pretty poor lot regarding hama beads - they're wonderful! DD and DS (15 and 14 ) still get them out on occasion!!!Hmm. Just hoover up the excess - easy!!
On the subject of hamsters I'm afraid I have to admit to murdering, yes murdering one poor old hamster here about 5 years ago- I gave him/her a twig to gnaw on (as prescribed by the back of the hamster food packet) but unbeknown to me the twig in question was a poisonous variety!(whoops!). Next morning poor DS2 was aghast to find a stiff hamster with froth at the mouth!!
My advice - for God's sake do not get small pets - rabbits/hamsters/fish etc etc - you will be looking after them (or not!) long after your DC lose interest!!
See you all tomorrow!!

ColdHeartedBitch · 15/02/2011 21:38

Right, am feeling motivated for now. not taken sleeping tablet as i had originally plan as ds has had a major red mist meltdown and will be the amazing nonsleeping elastic child tonight.

tomo list:
ring pead for new prescription of sleep meds
sort out dvd thingy (cancel or update card details Hmm)
sort ds' room out from tonights events
try to have a better evening with ds - ds dependant
make appointment with gp to discuss sleep med dose
try to sort alternative child care for half term
ensure house looks tidy at bedtime (well the bit that is currently tidy) BlushGrin

elliepac · 15/02/2011 21:39

ihate a full time job is my excuse for being so crap when actually I am just crap Grin. I am just slightly less crap during the holidays! I was looking for little furry things because makingchanges told me I might be able to find some in mount washmore. She lied Grin.

elliepac · 15/02/2011 21:44

Poor old sc, she went off to do the roundup and 7 posts in that time Grin. more Wine sc?

Toffeefudgecake · 15/02/2011 21:46

Won't have time to post tomorrow morning because I'm going on DS2's first school trip. DH is going to be 'home educating' DS1. He seems to think he can teach DS1 all of history in the next few months and is starting with the Romans Hmm. Glad I'll be out of the house!

Have shined my sink, am just doing my BBR and making our bed up with clean sheets, then am going to bed early for a change.

Good night all.

Toffeefudgecake · 15/02/2011 21:47

Sorry, SC - yet another post Blush.

ballinderrymum · 15/02/2011 21:52

optimistic that sounds like manslaughter - not so much murder Grin

Stillchuckingit · 15/02/2011 21:54

Harrumph. Why all this talk of hamsters I wonder?

Why aren't you discussing the many and varied beauteous assets of guinea pigs??????

Yay!! Pushme and her bump are fine and are generally feeling better! Take it steady Mrs Doolittle x

MissJulie got her motivation back today and did some therapeutic plant-tending. We hope her dh is able to extricated himself from Singapore customs soon

Swan has been cooking her cygnets healthy food and is on top of tomorrow's menu too

CHB has been swimming and skating and screaming Smile and has a tidy lounge

Makingchanges has been bravely making changes and learning to swim!! Go girl!! We are all behind you [imagine fat fairies with armbands Grin]

Toffee had a lovely morning with her Flyboy and relayed a bleak story about waiting for fish to die .... Grin

Linzer has been running around madly cutting off mens ties going great guns and Flying with the help of an Ipod app no less!

Elliepac has been officially "on one" (go Ellie!)shelling out on party food and sharpening her pickpocketings skills Wink

Respect to Ihate who is the only one of us on here who can do home blessing in one hour if she belts around like a racing ferret (we like that image Grin) and whose "pottering" list looks remarkably like my usual full-on list Blush

120 is still flying high Smile and FrenchFancy is too!!

Feetheart has been going great guns and making buns

Balinderry and Leo (good luck tonight!) popped in to say hello

Optimistic is recovering from heroically spending Valentine's day with fifty, small, spangly noisy, dancers ...

SC has spent most of the day watching Bugs Bunny with her poorly dd in between visits to the laundry of doom

Back with tomorrow's steps in a mo ...

Huge waves and apologies to anyone I've missed!

optimisticmumma · 15/02/2011 21:54

Well ballinderrymum I have to confess to intent (although after the event!!)

Stillchuckingit · 15/02/2011 22:00

Thanks for the Wine Ellie and good luck for tomorrow!

Lots of bottles due to you and Toffee (following school trip) tomorrow night methinks ...

Optimistic I think we may have murdered a hamster too...it was last seen (at university) down someone's trouser leg ...

Grin Balinderry

optimisticmumma · 15/02/2011 22:04

SC - oo er!!

Stillchuckingit · 15/02/2011 22:12

Tomorrow's baby-step, no 16, for Wednesday 16th Feb is here but one to ignore imo

You can always read a bit from Flying Lessons if the mood takes you

This week we are still in zone 3 (the bathroom + one other room) here!

Tomorrow's mission is described here - an easy one for me because we have no storage cupboards at all in our bathroom!!

Mission will also pop up here tomorrow

And finally, as I am sure we all know by now, Wednesday in Flylady world is "anti-procrastination day" ... have a good 'un everyone!!

pinkcushion · 15/02/2011 22:32

Ladies I think I'm going to have to bow out of this thread - I can't keep up. Smile

Am continuing to declutter and have adopted a few of the flylady habits but the news that our renovation will be pulled forward by 2 months has put me in a bit of a tail spin - we have agreed to start early but I will need to ramp up the preparations..it's all very edciting and a little nerve wracking.

Thank you to all who made me laugh and provided their wisdom and support - I'll be back but I may be some time Smile

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 15/02/2011 22:56

Evening all,

Late night loomong again so I won't stop for long (takes long enough reading it all!).

Pinkcushion sorry you're leaving us but quite understand the reasons why, good luck with your renovations!

Ellie goodluck tomorrow

SC thanks for roundups and babysteps

Another fan of Hama beads here, they don't seem to get spilt as much now the DCs are a bit older, also because we have carpets they don't roll quite as far as they wold on a wooden floor, as OM said, the hoover soon gets them all.

Off to bed now, night night.

swanriver · 15/02/2011 23:38

Ellie what a kind mum! [hides thread from children in case they ever expect balloons for breakfast.]

~In a mad burst of energy I have decluttered loft of 5 large bags of dusty I don't know quite what..(why was it ever put there Confused??

~Retrieved sad reproachful sewing machine which hasn't been used since 1997 Shock
~ Ate delicious quiche with dh
~Finished tidying bedroom (which unfortunately meant stuffing some clutter back in cupboards [grr] but there is HOPE.
~Cleverly arranged for dh to pick up sons from football on his way back from work.
~Dropped Playmobil Hospital which broke into many pieces [aargh] causing dd to have screaming fit.
not in that order

MC hope all went well.

missjulie · 15/02/2011 23:49

Why do i always wake up at night time?!
Since i last posted, done:
Written 30 thank you letters, from the birth of DD, last April!!!!! Blush Blush Blush, still got about another 60 to do! :(
Have cleaned my cooker!!!! It was AWFUL!!! Used the same method as for shining that sink, and it worked brill! It is actually sparkling!!! lol! (Still got to do the grill and oven, but that can wait for another day!)
Have just sat down with a small bar of choc, to fold some of the mammoth dry washing pile!!
Think i may be feeling a bit spaced with all the bleach! Hmm

missjulie · 16/02/2011 02:05

done have now folded all said washing, all 4 baskets of it, now have sore arms!! And, fed DD again, just woke!!!

Think i might finally be starting to get tired, which is typical, as DD is WIDE awake!!! lol!

missjulie · 16/02/2011 02:08

oh, and i re-shined sink, looked out DD and my clothes for tmrw, and made up all her meals ready! Phew!

elliepac · 16/02/2011 06:37

Morning everyone! I can't believe my little baby is 3 today! The unfortunate thing about her now being 3 is that she knows it's her birthday and she woke up at 5.30am to remind us all of that fact Grin. Everyone else is still asleep so DD and myself are snuggled on the sofa in the dining room waiting for the boys to get up (DH taken the day off work).

Won't be about much today so I hope everyone has a good day!

feetheart · 16/02/2011 07:04

HAPPY BIRTHDAY little-ellie
Hope you all have a wonderful day

missjulie - Chocolate essential as reward for any late night Flying. Hope you got some sleep in the end
You too Lair

pinkcushion - sorry you are leaving us but fully understand why. Hope building work (and mad preparations) go well. You know where we are:)

Have just evicted boy cat and dead bird from kitchen Shock Think girl cat must have caught it and he stole it from her - think hunter vs scavenger! His prized 'catches' are usually half-eaten sandwiches or chicken bones from someone's bin! He does do a mean line in stealing cakes from party bags though :)

Busy day today so not much Flying:

  • Morning routine - possibly slack shortened version
  • Costco for bulk buy of croissants/pain au chocolat for next week's birthday breakfasts - DD on Tuesday, DH on Wednesday. Will get other stuff too!
  • Post stuff for work/ebay/Mum
  • 2nd-hand uniform sale at school
  • Very quick dinner - Macaroni cheese in oven using timer (fingers-crossed emoticon)
  • DD to Brownies

If I get anything else done it will a miracle :)

Have a good day fellow Flyers
