Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

PA I think you are being very mean and selfish not letting bikes into the bedroom Grin. I share mine with various motorbike parts, which are too precious and "valuable" to be out in the garages with the rest of the vehicles, why shouldn't you? (Remember the wedding vows - with all my wordly gifts I thee endow etc etc)

missjulie · 07/02/2011 21:28

ogre, glad you found them! Am looking forward to making new friends too, hopefully, have just become a SAHM! ;)

ihatecobwebs - you're a better woman than me! I wouldn't be sharing me bedroom with all that!!! lol

Stillchuckingit · 07/02/2011 22:57

A warm welcome to LionRock

Have a look at last week's baby-steps and
don't be put off by the cutesy yuck language and terminology of Flylady site - the underlying system is sound.

Colourarc · 07/02/2011 23:04

Wine much needed!
haven't posted much 'cos work really has taken over . . . DH has been keeping the sink shiney & I came home tonight to find a printed 4 week meal planner on the fridge! All ready to fill in . . . YAY bless him xxx

Glad to see the Flying is going well, Toffee well done, (I posted on your other thread).

Sorry I'm not saying many personal hello's but the thread is manic!

So, who do we approach about a dedicated FLYING SECTION? If we all message the "powers that be", then they may grant our wish Grin

g'night all xxx

Toffeefudgecake · 08/02/2011 00:27

Well, didn't manage quite so much this afternoon:

Make shepherd's pie done
Hotspots nope
15-min declutter nope
Dinner done
D/W on done
Laundry mountain [weary emoticon] nope
Ironing [even more weary emoticon] nope
Bedtime routine done
Evening routine done
Bed at decent hour Hmm

DS1 wants to start his 'home education' tomorrow and, because he's enthusiastic, I'm not arguing. We have come up with a starter plan together, which mirrors his school routine, but gives him more free time. So, my list tomorrow looks like this (sorry, it goes on a bit, but am trying to stay focused):

Put rubbish out
Where did teacher meeting forms go? Confused - find them
S&S
D/W
B/Fast
W/M
Lunchboxes
School run
Make beds
T/D
Put endless laundry away
(whilst DS reads for 45 mins, then has 15 min break, then does Maths for 30 mins)
Hair appointment for me (DS has to come. What do I call this? Work experience? Life skills? Hmm)
Lunch
DS spend 15 mins writing diary (to practise handwriting and spelling and to learn months of the year. Truly, he doesn't know them - at 11! Either this is a dyslexic issue or he was off school that day Wink)
DS enjoy free time, whilst I do:
15-mins declutter
5 mins hotspots
15 mins ironing (more if I can bear it)
Put more laundry away [bored emoticon]
School run
PM routine
BB routine
Sleep

Thanks for all the lovely messages about DS. It is wonderful to be able to do what feels right for him and this feels like exactly what he needs.

Apologies for not posting personal messages, but I have had a quick read through and I'm too overwhelmed by all the chat to add anything. Off to bed! Sleep tight all.

Toffeefudgecake · 08/02/2011 05:06

Just passing through at this ungodly hour, after being woken up by DS2 wetting the bed. Have had to change all his bedclothes. He's gone back to sleep now, but my body thinks it's morning so I'm eating a bowl of cereal and passing the time with a quick browse of MN.

Back to bed now....

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

pinkcushion · 08/02/2011 07:32

Have just discovered bookmarking - how wonderful is that - the little things make me happy!

Toffee I can nearly feel your happiness - a virtual sea of serenity - much joy, nothing worse than an unhappy dc - it almost rips you in two with worry, doesn't it?

At least 15min kitchen decluttering
ironing

Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Had a nightmare evening last night with car breaking down on way back from Beavers, cue having to wait for breakdown truck and eventually getting back in at half ten. By this time, all I was good for was eating my dinner and going to bed. So therefore there was no round-up and I feel rather guilty. Will try and make-up for it tonight.

I haven't had time to read through all thread but will just say that missjulie made me spit my tea out this morning when I saw that she reckons we all have sparkling homes GrinGrin. Sparkling with dust maybe Grin.

Have a good day everyone....better go and do my job!

DH has taken DD2 and DS to their skiing course this morning, leaving me with DD1 and my headache. The doctor seemed to be a bit stumped by it and has prescribed some anti-allergy tablets; I told her I was fairly sure it wasn't being caused by my dust allergy, but I don't think she knew what else to try.

Anyway, must try to work up the energy to plod on through my list (apologies for all the detail today, but I need to feel like I'm actually achieving something).

Doctor's done

Make beds done
Drink glass of water doing!

List all food/meals in freezers
Thank you letters x2

BobLoblaw · 08/02/2011 13:07

Wow, enormous lists today. Hope everyone is well, I'm going to try and catch up on some chat.

I'm back again, I've been letting everything get on top of me and feeling very overwhelmed, I really need to get myself out of this funk, and feeling FlyLady again Wink

I am back on baby steps and routines Blush

Please give me a huge kick up the bum.

feetheart · 08/02/2011 13:32

Bob - considering what you have been through recently it is probably your body and brain trying to process it all. Don't be too hard on yourself and just tiptoe through the Babysteps :)

Quick list (unlike some people :))

  • Morning routine - just about done
  • Extra load of washing - on
  • Work - done though not as much as I wanted
  • Staples for bits - going in a minute
  • Open replacement Christmas present from my Mum (someone in Royal Mail stole the first one - opened parcel, took out 2 presents, packaged it back up and sent it on Shock Shock) - done, lovely book
  • Package up and post ebay stuff
  • 15mins decluttering in Living room
  • Dinner - leftover fish pie
  • DD to Brownies

Right.....shopping for stationery, oh joy Hmm

Stillchuckingit · 08/02/2011 13:33

[SC refuses adamantly to kick Bob up bum but hands her nice cup of tea and piece of carrot cake instead] Greeeaaatt to 'see' you though and sorry you are feeling overwhelmed but you do have a lot to handle. Absolutely no guilt allowed!!! Good idea to do baby steps ONLY 15 mins at a time. Are you getting any time at all for yourself?

Mahoosive waves to Ellie sorry to hear about your car. Didn't know whether to step in at last minute last night or not [dithering emoticon]. My second name is dithering actually. I'm happy to do tonight if Pushme not around. You sound like you need a night off.

Can't stop. Tuesday is meant to be my 'free day' but as usual atm I'm filling in for someone in office who is off sick. I will be glad when flu season is over tbh. Bit miffed because glorious sunshine today and would have been perfect for a bit of spring cleaning and a bit of exercise.

Well done with your lists everyone! Back later.

blijemuts · 08/02/2011 13:35

NickNacks,I have 3 guest rooms suitable for 2 people in each so I cater for 6 guests max at any given time. Add the 4 people of our family and our house is very regularly occupied by 10 people at the same time. It's a 200 year old house and that amount of people create an awful lot of dust 'n stuff (Is my excuse for dust in private area's of the house Grin. My business is a one man band,I have no staff 'cause I don't want any Wink.

Thank you SC tea very gratefully received, but I know how much easier everything feels when I'm doing the routines and decluttering I just need to actually get on with it and start instead of feeling overwhelmed while everything gets worse around me. I'm sorry you're missing your free day that must be disappointing.

Thanks feet leo and biljemuts

wendyhappysmile · 08/02/2011 15:40

hello all
I can't keep up with the thread but am still here and Flying!

Done all my routines, and some other stuff too, read a book between jobs Hmm and played with DD. Also got cross with her and lost my temper Sad. Must try harder to keep that temper!

Off to read to DS now. Book club tonight yay! The author is coming and I didn't like the book ... think I'll be keeping quiet (the others will think that I am ill Grin)

Happy flying all
